DF Modding / Re: Prehensile Beards or Beards that can grasp or strike.

Having metal material beards would be pretty cool.

I assume having the beard as another body part would cause problems with still having varied beard/hair styles though, right?

Maybe something can be done with the description to make some "different" beards, but there wouldn't be a way to enable/disable to beards "grasp" ability depending on the beard style, would there? At least without some major caste based shenanigans.

I only ask because it might be a little weird if a large full beard was just as effective at grasping as a short chin braid.

And no for some reason all I can think about is wanting Df to have hair that actually grows and can be changed over a Dwarf's life base on their preferences... And maybe shaving a Dwarf's beard as the highest form of punishment.

As far as I know it hasn't, so they wont be stockpiled right now.

Once you know it's going to happen it's not all that terrible to do with before you unpause. Just a minute or two of rebuilding the cabinets/chests, which only move a tile or two. I hadn't noticed the not being able to farm thing, though. You also have to reassign minecarts to any routes you have, but that's not really huge.

I retired the fort to see if I could get the Goblin neighbors in the area to actually be considered neighbors, so I had made sure there were no FBs or merchants on the map, figuring there might be some odd things with them just like when you reclaim a ruined fort. I just hadn't heard anything about the cabinets or chests.

To be fair to the Vampires, if a Sturgeon can kill a Dwarf, I might not rule out the duck either. And as I've seen a Yak Bull gore a Troll to death without injury, they might not be so terrible as Generals.

Ninja Edit: Could the issue with being unable to farm after un-retiring have to do with there no longer being mud under the farms? Or does it happen in soil layers too?

Has anyone else noticed a few odd things when they unretire a fort?

Basically what I've seen are cabinets and chests become unbuilt, and nobles not recognizing their designated rooms as being theirs (until after you re-assign it to them).

I used to quantum stockpile it behind a door, but that seems a little cheaty to me now, so I usually just shunt it out into the hallways instead of the rooms until space opens up in the stockpiles. If I have a lot of stone, I'll throw out the furniture that isn't masterwork and replace it until it is. That usually solves the problem.

That's usually how I deal with any significant excess of stone as well, start replacing all the lower quality furniture and throw it in the smasher.

Just had the heads of four legendary steel clad soldiers burst into gore by "A Huge Skinless Sauropod".

Luckily they weren't very social.

Would this mean Dwarves with no arms would still be able to wield weapons?

This and the stealth Were-Mammoth thread just make me want to try the whole were-beast military thing now that they seem somewhat more dangerous.

I don't mind flying ones anymore. My military just killed one (with poisonous secretions) that hovered above them as they hacked it to bits. Couldn't find any deadly juices anywhere afterwards, so I'll take it.

While doing some fancy construction in the caverns to punch a staircase through the underground lake there was a cave in that splattered my newly appointed Baroness and knocked my masterpiece armor wearing artifact weapon/shield holding Champion into the water to drown...

The next few months were then spent retrieving their bodies and belongings, before finishing up the staircase.

Of course almost immediately after getting things finished there is another cave in that breaks the arms and legs of my two legendary Miner/Engravers, because of course.

Go for slabs, you can collect all the bodies once you have more migrants with nothing useful to do but gather things.

It will probably avoid some of the "Overcome by Terror!" spam too.

I haven't actually tested if this works, but if you add the [METAL_ARMOR_LEVELS] tag to cloaks in the RAWs, it should keep Adamantine cloaks from decaying.

After about 5 years of no goblin sightings of any sort except for a very early 5 Goblin ambush that got scared away by a wild Honey Badger, and even the liaison only telling me that the world stays the same, I decided to make a backup and check legends mode to see what was up.

Apparently over these last few years the Goblin civ that my previously destroyed civ was at war with has been cut down to only 6 Goblins...

I guess it's time to start digging deeper and find something for my military to actually fight.
