Lots of problems will probably not be fixed until Stellaris 2 or even 3.

Pooling all the minerals into civ-wide pool instead of letting planets produce buildings on their own pace was a mistake. Sectors are a joke partially because of it.

It doesn't punish you for expansion. Science is useless. I don't see how working smarter not harder can possibly work. No way anyone could build enough lead.

Until they fix cat-and-mouse doomstack on doomstack action that war currently is, I'd rather them not give ability to blow up planets.

In my playthrough Egypt did conquer one of my provinces, but quickly got bankrupt so they they couldn't do it anymore.

However after seeing them fending off both a crusade and a decadence revolt at the same time, I gave up all hope.

Will try Abyssinian ZOG game again soon. Start as Axum, take over Abyssinia, and try to worm into Israel from here.

But how do I fend off Egypt?

Historically speaking, in real world population numbers didn't convert into research speed this well.

Some kind of measure to counter early landgrab snowballing into complete technological dominance is needed.

It seems new patch made AI more agressive. Got myself 2 wars in short succession, lost the second.

Warscore needs tweaking. Just because I lost a spaceport on day one doesn't mean I must be forced into white peace as I blockaded enemy's only planet.

Just lost election for my core kingdom, and while I still keep the empire running, I lost most valuable sources of income and levies. Since they got all the levies, they secured independence.

This sucks.

It's been about 3 or 4 centuries and world isn't what it used to be. Most Central Europe is controlled by Reformed Romuva Wendish Empire, and Most of the West is controlled by Ummayads. Catholics still hold Italy and shores of France, but is plagued by heresies. At least they took Rome back from Germanics. England is still fragmented - only Eire is united and going strong. Reformed Germanic Khazars are at constant struggle against caliphates.

SMAC/SMAX was the best Civ I've ever played, but the multiplayer had issues (I had an internet game end because someone decided to just stop playing, and there was no way to do anything about it, or continue the game without them, or turn their empire into an AI, etc)
Beyond Earth... I have not played because it sounded like it didn't live up to SMAC's legacy.
I found SMAC to be a realm of tedious micromanagement. And AI was bad. If I can beat it on maximum difficulty, that says something. Flavor was good though. But micromanagement.

Beyond Earth - yeah, lore was not this fun and game mostly unbalanced. Affinity system needs more implementation.

So how do I not get owned? Outnumbered, outgunned, I don't know how do they get 2K firepower when I have 500 at the cap.

So, on second attempt I managed to penetrate most of the most obtuse interface. However there are two things that upsets me - first - apparent lack of indication of which planets eligible for colonizing.

Second, frontier posts keep leeching my influence even as I colonize the system. As they seem to have no effect, I hope those things would be transformed into observation posts automatically.

So capture more sites. Controlling whole target will cause warscore to tick down, but reward for sites themselves tied to size of the enemy.

I really hoped systems would be like counties in CKII. What we got is unbearably confusing.

Such a little boy and already glorious.

Won my first great holy war as reformed Romuva (Want an easy achivement for reformation, play as Romuva at Charlemange). High Priest slacked off on ending it for some reason but it all ended well.
Should I just jettison my new Kingdom from teenage wasteland? It seems that I actually can't though. Maybe let gravelkind take care.
