DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Is it possible that target does not exist
« on: December 07, 2013, 09:32:38 am »
I was tasked to kill dwarf vampire, who allegedly resides in dwarven settlement, that obviously is not represented in game. Is it possible that I can't kill said vampire because she does not exist on map?

DF Suggestions / Exotic food from other races
« on: November 09, 2013, 08:59:54 am »
Kind of a simple suggestion to make dorf diet more interesting. I always felt like caravans from other races should bring more exotic stuff that dwarves can't replicate.

Give elves and humans some high quality food dorfen cuisine can't comprehend.

- Processed meat (such as sausages) - more expensive meat that can be mixed in food or eaten as is.
- Spice - very expensive powder used as cooking ingreidient
- Fruits - apples, pears, cherries. Dwarves can't conceive idea of using trees for anything that doesn't involve axes, so they can't grow them. Make good ingridients, raw food and base for booze.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Confusing, cotradictory directions
« on: November 04, 2013, 06:41:28 am »
It's my first time playing adventure mode and I was tasked to kill vampire in hamlet.

I went to hamlet and met people who kept pointing me to another cottage, where apparently vampire resides. Problem is, two cottages across the field seem to point one to each other. North-western points South-East, South-eastern points North-West.

DF Gameplay Questions / Ghost plants - why my planrs don't count?
« on: November 03, 2013, 01:35:46 pm »
I found unpleasant discrepancy between my stock screen and my boozemaking ability.

There's entire barrel full of pig tails, yet basic z-screen says I have no plants and my brewing doesn't seem to work. My whole agriculture seem to collapse, actually. Is there any way to recover?

DF Gameplay Questions / lizard men vampire diplomate
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:06:14 pm »
So, uhm, this is who's coming to my fortress.

Should I kill this Silurian invader and will I get siege from that? Is there anything lizard men are good for?

We all know and we all can see - sheriff, guard and hammerer are useless people. Only good thing they can actually do to fort is hammer a vampire, which, frankly, a rare occasion.

I propose following system to mitigate it. Give every dorf a hidden "delinquency" counter. It would rise if dorf sees injustice (nobody punished for a crime, he's punished for someone else's crime, someone else is punished for his crime), and fall if justice is dispensed (somebody punished for crime and dorf doesn't know they are innocent).

It get adjusted to situation (is there justice system operational, for example, and his mood) and if counter gets too high, dorf would commit a crime, ranging from punching their fellow dorf or animal in the face to taking a sword from stockpile and murder someone. Dorf with lower delinquency would attack their grudges or avenge unpunished crimes against them and their friends, high would do it out of boredom (like serial killer). Additional crimes might be sabotage (Breaking workshops) and theft (stealing small items and hiding them into chests or something, excluding them from trade and use)

Not only it would give justice (as well as obeying mandates) system proper purpose, it would also allow enthusiasts to try and run dens of vice and anarchy.

DF Gameplay Questions / Contamination situation - is there a solution?
« on: October 06, 2013, 05:51:22 am »
After skirmish with "Deadly dust" forgotten beast my lovely fort may now see its end.

I get reports from all across the fortress, dorfs get paralyzed and die from suffocation. Is there anything I can do to survive?

DF Gameplay Questions / Do animal men become friendly when get named?
« on: October 04, 2013, 10:10:54 am »
After fighting some ant men in caves and losing many miners and woodcutters to them, I noticed few friendly ant men crawling around.

Is a known fenomenon? Because I can't explain their existence otherwise.

So, I have just arrived to fortress site, that turned out to be occupied by a troll.

Should I panic now? Is it even hositle?

DF Suggestions / Make humans more belligerent aka "You stole our land"
« on: September 17, 2013, 01:16:56 pm »
While playing fortress, I always felt like game doesn't offer enough challenge for late game, which are not unstoppable hordes from hell.

I feel it would be fitting if Humans, greedy giant bastards they are, would come into prosperous fortress demanding rent for settling on their territory. When diplomat shows up, he would announce a demand for a tribute that fortress must offer to next caravan before trade could begin. Fail few payments and humans will lay a siege.

DF Gameplay Questions / Smaller embark map
« on: July 10, 2013, 02:01:13 pm »
My attempt to live long and prosper generally get stopped by FPS death. So I decided to confine self into tiny map, as opposed to 4x4.

But before I try, I'd like to ask, is it actually an effective solution and how much more problematic would life in tiny place be?

DF Gameplay Questions / Basic training - does it even work?
« on: July 09, 2013, 10:36:02 am »
I like to have large military training 24/7. And, well, my endless recruits don't seem to learn much. Is it possible that I do something wrong? How long does it take to turn recruit into at least novice?

DF Suggestions / Bestmasters
« on: July 06, 2013, 09:20:01 am »
I still feel like fortress mode does not offer enough of different flavors for sieges. For such I would like to suggest some new kind of adversary - beastmasters.

Basically, it's any sentient with aptitude for bonding with and controlling wildlife. Such person would live in the savage biomes, wear loincloth and weild wooden spear. And command legions of animals. Then he go and raid settlement and steal their stuff. And besiege dwarf fortresses with legion of pets - including giant creatures. I imagine fighting it would be quite fun.

DF Gameplay Questions / Necromancer ambush?
« on: June 29, 2013, 07:47:30 am »
I settled near the tower, and now my corpses raise from the dead and eat me. No warning as usual. Could it be that necromancer came in ambush? Could it be not a coincidence that caravan just arrived?

DF Suggestions / Demon cults
« on: June 25, 2013, 10:07:33 am »
As far as I understand, demons do escape from Hell and take over civilizations, pretending to be gods. But I think it would be more fitting for demon to have people worship him as himself. I see it approximately like this:

Demon upon escaping creates his own fraction and start luring sentients in, promising them whatever demons usually do. Upon joining cultist bring their racial technologies, for example human will give cult ability to forge morningstars, and dwarf will teach them how to forge this morningstarts from steel.

Obviously, good folks should be at war with this group and give quests to slay the demon. While in fortress mode cult sieges/ambushes should be possible. Steel clad trolls and kea men with crossbows, led by demon with all its demon's perks will sure add another flavor of "fun". I generally believe fortress mode needs more middle-level threats, between goblin raids and digging into hell.
