DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dedicated doctor

My recruit went berserk when carried to hospital by Chief medical dwarf. Now he's trying to punch Chief but can't seem to reach him. Meanwhile Chief appear to be scared of his patient and try to run away, refusing to let him go, carrying him away from euthanasia squad.

I just felt compelled to share this.

Is all injuries but nerve injuries recoverable? I've got swordsdwarf flashing red cross and reporting "Ability to grasp lost" with ligament and tendron torn - will he get back in action eventually?

I was recently experimenting on training recruits on captured goblins. I was chaining goblin bowmen in 3x3 rooms and sent a recruit to kill them. It seems to be relatively quick, but painful (and not too reliable - goblins are fragile creatures too) way to elevate recruits to novice weapon users.

Average fight consist of endless blocking by bowman, until trainee catch an arrow. One nice thing is that bowmen are passive - they are not eager attack dwarfs and let them regain consciousness in peace, crawl away if unfit to keep fighting or even be snatched by civilians with "recover wounded" task. Meelee goblins are far more aggressive and murderous.

Over the course not a single trainee died. I'm not sure if it worth it, but it was pretty amusing experience.

Do I understand correctly that artifact clothes can only be giving to military dwarfs as part of their uniform?

DF Suggestions / "Contagious" mining - mining whole cluster at once

After many mining operations i carried on, I realized one feature I badly need. Ability to assign the whole vein or cluster to be mined. As they tend to be in unpredictable shapes, and miners may take different task once they mined all I marked, it's really unoptimized process.

I propose following mechanism: contagious digging. Once tile marked for such is mined, all newly revealed tiles of the same material get marked as well. This would let player to command "Mine all this coal you find in this vein" and such, automatically.

Two of my dwarves fought forgotten beast with dust attack. Long story short, all muscles in their body was rotting. As I was preparing caskets for them, they checked into hospital and got only once procedure - cleansing rotten skin from upper lip (According to medical history screen).

Since then they perfectly alive, with no miasma. Yet all their organs are listed on health screen with no commentary and wound info list all their body parts yellow. Is such easy recovery and weirdness of information displayed a bug? And does it affect their performance?

My queen reports that she slept in awful bedroom and eat without dining room. Yet all her property is Royal.

Is she simply moody because she can't have bronze bed in her tomb?

When my duke or queen die in my fortress, will they be replaced by their next to kin? It seems that they don't, but I only dealt with this once.

Nobles are sort of point or pride/role-playing for me, I want to have them.

I have noticed among my migrants that they lack any sort of relationships, expect for one or two gods.

Is it bug? Is this some kind of safeguard to give me migrants when civ has none?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Bone shield

Strange mood gave me this. I couldn't conduct any kind of experiments and also failed to find any useful data on wiki.

Is it a good shield? Does material matter or artifact quality + light weight surpass unfit material? Or maybe it's bad because it's not good as blunt weapon?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Depressed werecreature

My fortress is currently plagued by trader migrants (You know, they just stay there and do nothing). Once I checked unit list and saw a werecreature berserking. But when I zoomed to it, it was just standing here, stricken by melancholy. My dwarves wandered around, ignoring it.

Then it turned into dwarf again and drowned itself, why I wasn't looking, apparently.
