Turns out his hideout has door that I'm allowed to lock. I guess problem neutralized until I get myself some military.

So, I have just arrived to fortress site, that turned out to be occupied by a troll.

Should I panic now? Is it even hositle?

Well, perhaps they shouldn't? Brick made of stone is no different in handling from brick made of wood or zinc.

I'd add "construction" job into job selection that encompass all the building. Or maybe merge it with architecture? It's pretty useless skill currently, a bit more use for it would be nice.

I do think construction should be a separate job. No need to differentiate between stone, wood and metal here, though.

While playing fortress, I always felt like game doesn't offer enough challenge for late game, which are not unstoppable hordes from hell.

I feel it would be fitting if Humans, greedy giant bastards they are, would come into prosperous fortress demanding rent for settling on their territory. When diplomat shows up, he would announce a demand for a tribute that fortress must offer to next caravan before trade could begin. Fail few payments and humans will lay a siege.

I always wished for "tattered clothes" stockpile too. Always separate clothes from the rest of good, but clothes stockpile is always overrun by socks and stuff. Perhaps adding "tattered" into quality setting would be good enough.

Sorry for being dumb, but do you mean that if, in fact, one of the wagons has been broken they'll never leave? It seems like that may be the case. They arrived, we traded, and then the siege happened (which I am assuming was what broke one of the wagons) before they tried to leave. Two of the traders and their animals are standing further in the entrance tunnel beyond the depot, one is at the depot with the remaining wagon, and a few are over near the edge of the map they entered from. They're all standing perfectly still.
You shot them with siege weapon?! I never did it.

If they lose non-combatant units to hostiles, they run away, I never studied this further though.

My standard question - have you, by chance, built traps on their way out? Check deport accessibility, trees could grow and block way out as well.

They will enter without wagons, but they won't leave without them.

Perhaps limit should stay (after all, manager is said to need to stamp them and who know how dwarf paperwork works), but larger order would automatically split.

Make finished goods, like rock crafts. Light, easy to produce and you can give them away without any consideration, because they are useless anyway.

Judging by what I see in game - running chaotically toward target and hoping to get lucky is the way of war for everybody. How you expect to implement tactics?
