I think it's normal to have diplomats with civilian title. I think I met cook liaison once.

Hatches tend to be destroyed by forgotten beast walking by or something like that, but they lock instantly and can't be destroyed from below. So build a hatch and then wall around it.

It is possible, of course, that there's no goblins with access to your fort. They can't swim across the seas, nor can they cross polar caps. You should check on embark or just abort worlds with more then 1 landmass.

I'd love some small caverns in the earth, filled with recursors' ruins, randomly generated. They might be just room with some stuff, probably made from special materials that dwarfs can't have. Some probably containing surprises, like undead guards, demon, forgotten beast or two, cloud of toxic material.

They shouldn't really be part of the history, because they are ancient as heck. Instead they just randomly put on embark from time to time.

Are you sure you choose the right option? I always found request/don't request choice confusing because it seemed like a command, not like a status it is.

I think werecreatures get caught in cage traps. Maybe you could trap him in a room with cage traps, get him transformed and then chain him up from cage?

I did it with weredwarf who came from outside, fearing loyalty cascade if I kill him in dwarf form.

You can't build construction on the tile where another construction is already present. But you can build wall on empty space attached to floor, or floor automatically created by wall being built on level below.

Are you suggesting to tie available options to age of the world? That would force people to generate older world, despite possible hardware limitations (Not enough memory to process large histories), wetware limitations (Not wanting to wait until 1050 years pass) etc.

I just catch migrants on arrival. Those who have useful skill go furth, those who don't, get all jobs enabled. Military skills go to squads. Not very efficient way to manage fortress, but it works if resources are on my side.

My attempt to live long and prosper generally get stopped by FPS death. So I decided to confine self into tiny map, as opposed to 4x4.

But before I try, I'd like to ask, is it actually an effective solution and how much more problematic would life in tiny place be?

I've got large meeting dining rooms, statue gardens (often more then one), well meeting rooms, memorials. Why deny dorfs entertainment?
