Hm, I've come up against a modding conundrum; I'm trying to create an interaction that allows a creature to emit multiple new creatures, but I can't figure out how. Possibly by causing body parts to fall off, then animating and transforming them? I'm not sure.

Anyone seen this problem before?

Also, the interactions to test out the hydra vigors are still around in adventure mode; just FYI.

DF Modding / [outdated] New Notepad++ raw file highlighting mode!

This project is out of date! Go to the updated version here:

(thanks Sirmaril!)

I made a highlighting mode for Notepad++!

A sample:

The download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bmor3vsz5nf6c1k/df_raw_lang_npp_0.2.zip

To install:
Download the archive and unzip it somewhere.
Start up NPP, open the languages menu, and select 'Define your language':

In the language dialog, select 'Import':
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Select the extracted xml file and hit 'Open':

Reboot notepad. Now, you should see something like this:

Select that option when you're working with a raw file and boom, highlighting!

It's supposed to highlight only tokens built in to DF, so as to still work with total-conversion mods. If something is highlighted and shouldn't be, or isn't and should, either you're missing a bracket somewhere or I missed some tokens; if you can't find the problem, post in the thread and I'll try to fix it.

Figured out my notification spam problem- it was because I had made a copy of my usual DF folder and installed the raws into that. My usual DF folder uses lazy newb pack, so dfhack and other things were still launching when I ran the modded game. Downloaded a fresh copy of DF from bay12, modded that, and it has worked without spam so far.  So, fault on my end :-\

I'd also be interested in a play turn; I've been playing with the most recent raws from Zanzetkuken's turn, and I realized I might as well contribute  :)

Some random quibbles:
Formics are extremely weak to eye hits; eye attacks pretty much always open major arteries, and then they bleed out pretty quickly.

There does not appear to be any way to manufacture quivers. You can spawn with them in adventure mode (silk quiver) but aside from that they are nonexistent. I think this may be interfering with hunting; my halfling hunters generally refuse to hunt, even if there are animals, bows, and arrows available (and they don't appear to use rocks to hunt).

On embark, if you pick 'prepare for the journey carefully', you start out with no points available, as they are all invested in a 400-coin iridium anvil. You can get rid of it, but it's still initially disconcerting. Also, some odd items show up for purchase: 'nothing leather' and 'tarnish stalk cloth cloth', if I remember correctly.

I'm also getting 'unrecognized inorganic token' spam in the errorlog:

And I've just started getting these errors:

This universe is coming along great though. Pitting dragons against swarms of dirigible antelopes in the arena is hilarious :D

I just read through all of this thread and the Deathgate thread. This fortress is terrifying.

...I want in! (added myself to the dorfinator + requesting turn)  :D

I generally try to be nice to my dwarves, but I've done quite a lot of horrible things to them by accident.  :D

In my first really functional fort, I had an drawbridge that opened outwards; my original idea was to have it double as a catapult in case enemies got uncomfortably close. Well, it did. A herd of zombies showed up and started lurching at me so I had the bridge raised... right while a mother and her new baby were running across it. They got flung right into the middle of the zombie pack. The mother died on impact, but the baby wasn't so lucky (he got torn to shreds). This of course happened right in front of the baby's father, an archer hiding behind my fortifications, so he immediately started tantrumming, and everything went downhill from there. That was pretty terrible...

But what really sealed the deal for awfulness was, going through the combat logs afterwards, finding this:
"The head of Urist McDeadBaby latches on firmly to the sleeve of Urist McBabyDaddy! Urist McBabyDaddy has gone berzerk!"

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had
« on: May 26, 2013, 10:19:36 am »
Some fisherdwarves come with my first migrant wave. I actually have a river for once, I'll put them to work!

Two seasons later, I notice a portion of my river covered in flies, right where my fisherdwarves are working. Curious, I examine one of them; he's standing on a stack of mussels. I realize I have no fishery / unprepared fish stockpile, so the fisherdwaves have nowhere to put their catch- they've just been standing there, for two seasons, grabbing mussels from the river and dropping them where they stand.

Most efficient use of dwarfpower ever   :-\

at least they're good at swimming now
