DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: September 14, 2015, 07:45:53 am »
I know. I've had plenty of artifacts in my forts. I've had three successful ones so far in my current fort. A stone door worth 27,000 a green glass armor stand worth 8,000 and a lead cage worth roughly the same as the stand.

. . .On the plus side, artifact pig iron mace.

Should have been silver.

CraftRaptors was visited by a dragon. Our first uininvited guest. Coming after a slew of issues from that export ban violation. Joy. It's winter. We killed the damn beast quick but not before he burned the local tortoise population and set fire to the forest. We took him out without casualties, only to lose two hammerlords to the fires anyway. Oh well.

Dead trees dead trees,
Watcha gonna do?
Dragons burn ev'rything
when they visit you (Sung to the tune of the Cops theme)

Depends on if that was the first siege. Enough others beforehand could have toughened everyone up already. The FPS death would still be a problem.

Instant FPS death. Plus most of your map covered in goblins both living and dead.

Mark stuff on your side of the trade screen, and nothing on the merchant's side. Hit the o button. You just made an offering. Trading's different. Trading goes to the merchant. Offering goes to the monarch instead. The trader will say something like "I'll make sure s/he gets this."

34 Weaponlords vs. thousands of untrained peasants who cried and ran at the first casualties. Possibly not even their own.  :P

Just deny them food and drink and go about the business of recovery. If you don't want to worry about the building or retrieving the dead, just lock it up, build six slabs while they're alive, and engrave the honorable dead on them as they die.

Horrible, horrible dystopia. Everything happened all at once. First, I had my first accidental kill in my medical training trap. Then the dwarf caravan left. With some bracelets the mayor had prohibited the export of. When we have a full justice system with fewer chains than "offenders." Six dead, several more in the hospital. And we got migrants.

This is so much Fun I'm less laughing than staring speechless. And I'm nowhere near finished since I have 80 people left alive.

So yeah, for the first time in this game I'm going to jump off the Dystopia cliff and make a fort worthy of Dwarves. I've decided that the non-elected nobles will all have to be survivors of battles, or, more likely, survivors of the medical training program. I've already had two injured dwarves from that system. One broke an arm. The other his lower spine. He can't walk anymore. Unless I get a quadriplegic with various other parts rotting off from some kind of FB syndrome, I think I have my Duke.

CraftRaptors is in its third summer. We have one squad of hammerdwarves that are pretty dang high in skill, and a newbie ax squad just starting out. We've even got a working hospital that has seen use from "accidents" given to excess workers I've nicknamed Medical Training Dummies. They burrow on a retracting bridge, the bridge retracts over a three Z drop, and if we're lucky, they get injured before being hauled away to the hospital for treatment.

I love this game.

P.S. All our artwork seems to paint us as nationalistic racist scum who hate humans. If the Gobs and Forgotten Beasts don't pan out, we might just train our military on a human force instead. Given that the world is over 80 years old and the Liaison keeps saying the world is the same as it's always been, we might need to spark up a good war.

I would be incredulous about the no trees bit being sweet, but I can just assume you went cavern exploring for bed materials and used the volcano as Armok intended.

Capture mermaids in a pond. Dump lava on pond. Carve the obsidian into a mermaid statue. Sell as a genuine statue of a mermaid with a mermaid corpse inside it?

You'd have to talk to Toady about that. I remember the Youtube vids making money off of advertising, someone asking Toady about it, and him being okay with it long as the person's not trying to claim DF as their own. You should definitely ask Toady. I might be remembering wrong, or he might have changed his stance even if I'm right about the old ways.

Nothing too strange has gone on. I'm a Demigod Hearthperson so I found out what was ailing my local area (some kobolds, bandits, a criminal organization in a nearby town, a tower, and a hydra.) So I grabbed a couple bowmen and a swordsman, hefted my halberd, and marched on the kobold camp first. So far I took out 11 of them and have been trying to convert the loot to more useful things. So far, not doing too well at trading, since no one seems to want to work in money for some reason.

Still, my current wish is for a few more waterskins so I can ditch the rivers for a while and just explore further. I'll have to continue raiding the kobolds in the meanwhile, and see how far I need to go to drive them off.

Wow this is fun. I'm glad I read this, it'll give me some idea of what I'm in for in my own adventures.
