Increasing fortress value, the semi-quick and semi-easy way.
I know what I'm doing if I ever get a Star Sapphire..
I didn't see the dwarf carry the water to the food stockpile, so either someone hauled the water bucket to the food stockpile and removed just the bucket, (to fill the pond with), or someone dumped the 10 water after failing the fill pond job, and a dwarf hauled the water to the food stockpile in his hands.
And what do I see, but the kobolds are ambushing one of their own theives that were running away from my fort. Shooting arrows and all.
What's the matter here?
I think that says it all, really..
Darn, wrong forum. Can this get moved?

One possibility is entertainers that arrive at your fort. You could set up an activity zone, say, parade ground, that entertainers or circuses would arrive at, and would set up their tents or theaters or whatever in. Then your dwarves would go and buy stuff, and watch the shows and such. They would pay from their accounts, and then the leader will go and get coinage from your vault equal to what your Dwarves owe.
This sort of thing could be extended to the caravan system as well. You could make a request for a professional of a certain skill to work for you for a year, and you pay him. Or even set up regular deliveries.
I would like to see flags, banners, and tapestries. Eg, you could weave cloth into a Tapestry, and build it on a smooth wall like an engraving. Maybe you could turn leather into hanging skins as well.
As for banners and flags, it would fit in with the Army Arc as well. A clotheirs workshop would make a 'banner', which you could then dye red or purple, or etcetera. Then you could take a piece of wood and make an "army banner". This could be a pre-requisite for sending out a squad of troops onto the world map.
It is now free, too, and the cheating and hacking that almost killed it, has been solved.
... omitting thoughts..
Alath Emgashral likes native gold, Aluminum, Star ruby, and cows for their haunting moos.
I think you can figure it out.
