True, but the majority of American citizens are more than happy to save a one-time $100 payment today but have to spend $1000 in 10 years.  Because apparently they can't see the long term cost of not preventing aggressive international behavior as being more than the short-term cost.  Congress should say: look US population, it's in your best interest to stop this nonsense, because it really is going to cost us more in the future*.

The current US culture just isn't interested in stamping out injustice - or I should say, they only care about what they perceive as injustices to themselves, not to other people.

It's all very disappointing.

*The cynic in me, though, is that Congress itself just doesn't care - they don't care about long-term success and stability, just short-term profit.

That said - what's the rest of Europe doing? I don't get the impression (which could be wrong, of course) that the EU is actually trying to stop Russia either, or give Ukraine what it needs to actually stop Russia.

It's all very disappointing (repeated for emphasis).
This is literally the opposite of how a democracy is supposed to work. You are describing an aristocracy, where the people in charge pursue their own interests because they think they know better. In a democracy, officials must answer to their constituents. Constituents are often short-sighted or easily swayed, a flaw of democracy that has been commented on since ancient Athens; nevertheless.

"Look, we need to support the murderous autocracy that is attempting to lie and murder their way to victory."

"Why?"

"Well, because the local aristocracy (wealthy republicans) says we're supposed to support them!"

No, Russia doesn't have money or tech to offer.  They have a supply of relatively old aircraft.  They also have shit-for-money.  The recent 'voluntary reductions' in exports were in no way voluntary.

I'm also noting that you didn't chime in with opposing Trumplicans, who are super-allied with Russia.

Iran do what America don't. Fuck Trump's republicans.

American politics are slightly more complex than that.

And Iran is not an ally of Russia, it merely profits from selling weapons. Sadly Russia has money and tech to offer.

Yes they are.  Iran is absolutely, one hundred percent, an ally of Russia.  They're aligned politically, economically, and they exchange defensive goods.

Trence uses Claw Slash!  It has no effect!

Willis uses Scan Crystal!

Spoiler: Scan Info (click to show/hide)

Sessha Uses Trick Shot!  Oddly, the swarm can be hit critically.  Unfortunately, being a swarm and being immune to physical, the knives are only able to remove a tiny bit of the mist.

The mist surrounding the party surges again.  Everyone takes 18 damage from the burning / tearing mist, 9 of which is semi-permanent.

Sessha uses a mana potion on Willis!  Everyone's MP is maxed out!

Willis casts Fireworks!  Bolts of fire streak out into the mist, the light from explosions hitting deep inside the cloud.  It shudders, but it remains impossible to tell the overall amount of damage!

Trence uses Tidal Breath, following the explosions up with a wave of deadly freezing water.  It tears through, rending temporary craters in the cloud, but the depths of the mist remain unknown.

The cloud reaches the party and engulfs them!  Or most of them.  Trence thinks his tail pokes out of the cloud, mostly due to it not being in pain.

The party is torn into by the odd effect of the mist.  Armour is ignored, but defense buffs like the yellow aura from ArmourOne seems to help!

Everyone takes 20 damage!  Ten of it is semi-permanent.

I bide my time going through the small hallway.  My escape plan does not involve resistance at this moment.

Encounter Start!

Now facing Unknown Mist!  Willis fires one more frozen arrow into it.  Trence does not have sufficient MP to use Tidal Breath!  Sessha sets everyone up with Armour One.

Okay.  Anyone else do any casting?  Sessha does have Armour One.  And Trence isn't in dragonform.

Can we use fire or acid to melt bottles closed?

You don't have any acid.  Fire could work, but your access to fire is Willis' high-powered explosion spells.  Not exactly the best for controllably melting the glass.  You could try using a campfire, but it wouldn't be the easiest thing to do.. there'd be a chance of either destroying the mist or letting it go.  You had some bombs, but nope, those seem to have been left with Uncle and Alice.

..Still, melting it a bit around the stone seems somewhat more viable.  Maybe it'll work?  Assuming the heat just doesn't kill the mist in itself.

Maybe you can ask Uncle to drop something to you?

(Attempt to destroy the mist votes are 2-1.)

Willis hits the mist with another spell.  Sessha throws more daggers.  Trence reverts, but he doesn't have any ranged attacks.  Willis goes to using his bow, and the much ignored frost arrows actually seem to do something!

Overall, the mist seems immune or virtually immune to physical damage, but elemental damage seems to hurt it.  Sessha's poison knives do seem to do something, but it isn't as effective as you would expect stacking infinite poison on one creature would be.  All the while, the mist recedes, recedes more, and roils and screeches.

After a few minutes of firing frost arrows into the thing, the diminished mist lurches and starts heading towards you, rapidly climbing the cave wall.  You have a moment to do something before the encounter starts.

Due to the nature of the area, Running is not possible.

Web potion bottle

"Nah, look at these webs.  It's eating through them despite the glass being in the way."

You look at the webs.  Indeed, webs touching the outside of the glass are being.. very slowly, admittely, eaten away.  The effect isn't blocked strictly by hard materials.

What is this stuff?

Rock

You find a rock shard that'll fit in the potion bottle, but it's not a great solution.  You'll have to carry the bottle around like a bomb.  No inventorying it, and no bringing it through extremely tight crawls.  Still, you have a sample of this truly ridiculous stuff.

..Also, it's still there, albeit diminished, and still roiling.  And you'll have to rest again soon.

Any further efforts?  The spellfire did diminish it a lot.

Alright.  Battle aura, webs webs webs, mana potion, big dragon, and Trence wedges himself in properly.  More webs, webs and webs, and sessha's slowly climbing down one web with another web attached to her feet.  And she slowly edges down towards the roiling mist below.

There is a little pain before reaching the visible portions of the mist, but not too much.  She dips the bottle on a stick into the gray mist, and pulls it out, having captured a small amount of the.. stuff.  Cork in, and she manages to pull up having only gotten minor burns.  No permanent, or semi-permanent damage.

The stuff is still roiling, and the mist is starting to eat through the cork.  It doesn't seem like it's gonna last very long..

You have a potion full of Pain Mist.  Any ideas on how to close it?

The mist continues to roil, as you try and work out a method of bottling it.

A solution is decided.  Willis will battle aura + mana potion to fill up.

Trence will then turn into a big dragon form, and will secure a web line to lower Sessha down towards the roiling mist.  The potion will be webbed onto the end of a stick, dipped into the mist, and everyone will be raised up by Trence the dragon once the bottle is filled.

Anything to add or to modify for the plan?
