Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I decided to revisit Alpha Legion for the first time since early 6th(maybe late 5th) edition. Managed to get a nice metallic blue/green scheme down for the first time.

Also have more or less finished converting Typhus into a Mousillon Marine. Needs based obviously, but I'm happy with how far he's come since I started the conversion process.

Expendable mooks are probably the least problematic thing to give to PCs though, at least provided they act they a bunch of cops/private guards rather than obediant robots.

It’s annoying for combat though. I had to end up inflating the size of the fights due to this, just so they felt even slightly threatened.

I suppose. I tend to lean towards fights being difficult if the party goes in unprepared and easy with the appropriate prep or a bit of luck, bar the odd boss fight type scenario where I expect them to either run away quickly or risk a TPK barring luck or devious thinking.

So if the party does their investigating and finds out where the threat of the day is and then goes and reports it to the authorities and go storm the place with support troops I kind of expect them to have an easy time, it's their reward for remembering that there are other people they can go to and use their social skills on rather than rushing in head first and relying on combat talents alone every time they meet a ganger or a cultist or a seditionist noble.

That said the restraints might be more in terms of what having a governor like you actually means rather than making the ability not let you easily befriend one.

Governor's have a lot on their proverbial plate (and often their real one :P ) and can't just give away stuff to a friend, especially not one who they don't owe any favours to. A foot in the door with important organisations, maybe some higher level contacts in the local military and law enforcement, perhaps a shinier handgun if the governor rules an affluent planet.

Remember that governor's are usually part of a large extended noble family, with in-house and inter-house rivals vying for the governor position, the Administratum pressing them for tithes being maintained or increased, Mechanicus contracts to negotiate and inter-planet trade deals to negotiate in general, planetary cultural matters to attend to, a large coterie of advisors and previous friends and obligations, and a whole host of other things that limit how much aid they can really give this firebrand preacher they've taken a shine to.

It's also possible the governor is just incompetent and basically a figurehead, that happens to sometimes.

Lack of other practical options for housing I imagine. You can get stuck in a really bad situation if you don't have anywhere else to go.

One of my goldfish died suddenly. Seems to have been skin cancer that I hadn't noticed.   :(

It's got me down a bit because my nephew was the one who picked him, so there was a bit of extra sentimental attachment there.

Finished my third Mousillon themed marine, the medic. Guy slightly references Isabella von Carstein from Warhammer Fantasy, her gimmick was having a magic chalice of blood that healed vampire units.

Of the three I've done the sorcerer is my favorite, but I think this guy beats the banner carrier for second pretty handily.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Was trying to take a photo of my snake after he woke from his most recent food coma and he kept following my hands. Seems to be his way of requesting time out of the viv.

Had to keep moving my hands slightly to the right to refocus the camera because he kept shifting forwards just after each time I moved.

The excuse with the animals species is that most aren't actually the species anyway. Dogs and horses seem to be the only animals left from earth, everything else is various flavours of non-sapient alien animal like the Grox or Gloomhaunts.

Decided to buy Binding of Isaac after a few years of meaning to and never getting round to it. Having a lot of fun, been a while since I've played a game for hours straight without realising.

The renaming of things for 40k is kinda arbitrary and I think a lot of it is references to other stuff, certain I've seen recaf in some other sci-fi franchises. Cigarettes got the treatment but lighters never did, coffee got it but not tea, brandy(?) but not beer, machine guns but not shotguns or grenades.

Of 7 cats, including one who was a blind kitten we rescued from the street when I was a kid living in the middle east, none of the cats I've owned have been unfriendly.

Closest to unfriendly was Bea, but that was because she got weaned too early because the owners of her mom (rural couple outside Berlin I think, mom was a farmcat, dad was a feral tom) wanted rid of her. She wound up with suckling behavior (earlobes in her case) and never properly adjusted to playing without using claws. Where other cats would run up and bap you with their paws and then roll over, she would claw you from ambush and expect you to want to keep playing.

Neighbours who used to live across the street from where I live now had a cat who used to run right up to people in the street and beg for attention. Think she was a Bengal, which would explain her being so friendly. She once jumped in our car boot while we were unloading shopping and strutted back and forth begging for pets, climbed into my lap while I was in the garden. Used to beg my dad for attention too, but he's not really an animal person.

Oscar from next door likes to come to us when we're outside and get clapped and ear scritches as well. Has a weird relationship with our current cat, they get along fine outside but are still very defensive about their houses even though both go in the other house from time to time.

Hell, only unfriendly cat I've met in the past decade is a black and white one I've found in the garden a few times who seems scared of people.

I always wonder where Tech-Marines stand re: divided loyalties.

Depends on the chapter to which the marine belongs. Basically all of them pick chapter over Mars when tested on a combat level, but there are plenty of situations where Mars comes first like not telling people Mechanicus secrets even if it's your Chapter Master or Primarch asking or not letting people make unholy modifications to wargear. If a tech-marine had to pick between his chapter's death or a forge world being destroyed they'd probably pick their chapter dying.

Most chapters view tech-marines as outsiders similar to librarians, and the feeling is reflected in various ways. Some tech-marines resent their brothers for being ignorant and superstitious, some long to be part of the brotherhood the others share, some get along fine despite some quirks.

Could swear I've seen manufacturer tech priests referred to as the Ordo Technicus once. Magos Technicus certainly sounds right to me in the same way as Magos Biologis.

Got to have a proper lizardfolk moment in our most recent session. Was crawling on a roof above a jail during a jailbreak, knocked on the door and then hauled the guy who answered onto the roof by his head and proceeded to bite him to death over the next two turns as his buddies tried to climb onto the roof and shoot at me, then threw the body down at them as our party barbarian started to smack two of them with his axe, grabbed a guy who was trying to climb up to get at me and grappled/bit him until he died while clinging to the wall with spider climb, then leapt off the roof and bore one of the last few guys to the ground and started trying to maul him.

When the remaining guards and the warden of the prison came outside to back up their now dead friends I hit the barbarian with invisibility, told him to run, then intimidated the warden into not pursuing me when he asked what the hell I did to his men by answering 'I ate them,' then dragged the last guy we killed off to the side while staring at them.

It was nice to switch from being a semi silly character to going full horror movie monster for a bit.
