EQUESTRIA, CLAN HALL WAITING ROOM
"Gee wilikers, professor, you sure are smart!" the griffon mocks as she walks towards the door. "Magic is alright, I guess. Talons are better. Multi-use tools. Gutting, grabbing, goring, slashing, smashing. Simple, but effective."

"I thought it was a pretty interesting display of skill. And a good understanding of the fundamentals. That will take you far, my friend," Autumn comments with a smile.

"Well, I think that--" Mead Mix begins before the door dominating the rooms north wall opens with a loud clack.

"The ring will see you now," a unicorn mare announces, standing to the side to let Sasha through.

"I also have pretty good hearing," she says before making her way down the hall. One after the other, the initiates follow suit, walking down a hallway dominated by paintings of great ponies from Equestria's history. Perhaps one day one your images will be immortalized among the other greats? With hope fresh in your minds, you enter the ring chamber.

Light pours into the stained glass windows, various heroes of the Tribes glowing in its wake. Banners of various origin hang on the walls, some simple, some embellished. The largest one hangs on the far wall depicting all races, pegasi, earth ponies, and unicorns, working together in harmony. Below the tapestry, the illustrious Ring sits. Eight ponies, each one honoured with a special title and position, sit behind a great longtable, mostly bearing stern expressions. They are silent as the initiates file in. Each was told beforehand the proper etiquette when dealing with the ring. Stand a respectful distance away, keep proper posture, don't speak until you are addressed. Basic things when dealing with rulers, most would think. But some of these initiates are Farlanders, and needed reminding of their place. Still, none of them err from their position.

The scribe takes her place at the edge of the table, allowing the ring to focus their full attention on the initiates.

"Greetings, prospectives, I am Clover the Clever. The ring has called you here today to complete your initiation into the ranks of the pioneers. Half of you will pass, the other half will be denied. Do you accept the call?"

NUMBRA, LORD XAVUS' MANOR
Edjane nods, then she walks into the room. The four of you follow. Inside, you find a fine, if spartan, dining room. Well polished and tended, but bare. A single portrait dominates the east wall, depicting a pony that looks much like Xavus, but older, and with a greying mane. The lord himself stands, facing towards the large portrait, and his wives stand behind their seats. A posh looking mare with soft features but sharp eyes stand to the left of Xavus. She wears much powder makeup and fine jewels adorn her headdress. A condescending smile enforces her aura of dominance. Marrin stands right beside her, a bored expression on his face.

Right of Xavus stands the mare from before, the one in the clan hall. At the time the pioneers might have assumed she was an adviser, but she appears to be his wife as well. She wears a cold, neutral expression. Right of her stands Edjane, perhaps the only local pony you can really call an ally. She has removed her armour, but still wears protective barding.

Left of the posh mare stands an elderly mare. Very elderly. She has a satisfied look about her as she patiently waits for the festivities to begin. Several servants and guards stand quietly in the corners and to the sides, Luciona and Adjus among them. Fine cutlery is arranged on the table, but no plates nor food.

The silence goes on for a few awkward moments before someone closes the dining room door.

"The Great Lord Xavus has invited farlanders into his realm, and into his home. May this meal bolster relations and create new bonds where there was once uncertainty," a servant announces as if reading lines from a scroll. With that, Xavus turns around to face the farlanders. Without a word, he takes his seat. After him, the posh mare takes her seat, then Marrin, then the stoic mare, then Edjane, then the old mare.

"You may now be seated," Xavus says. Each one of the pioneers takes a seat, and the statue-like servants finally begin to move.

"Oh, isn't this fun! Let's start with a prayer, shall we?" the old mare begins. This attracts an annoyed glance from the posh mare.

"No, that is not proper. We will start with introductions, as law dictates."

"But we must thank the gods for blessing us with such bountiful harvest! Now, which god shall we thank, hm? Rhunekin, perhaps? But I do so adore the God of Plenty!" This elicits an annoyed sigh from the stoic mare, and a belittling laugh from the posh mare.

"Please, do ignore Helen. She is old, and her mind grows soft with age. Xavus, introduce yourself." Xavus shows the slightest twinge of annoyance, but starts his introduction.

"I am Lord Xavus of house Splitstake, Lord of Numbra and protector the Temple."

"I am Lady Esse of house Splitstake, maiden of Vaulta and the Heart of Xavus," the posh mare announces with great eloquence.

"I am Melesa, Mind of Xavus," the stoic mare says calmly.

"I am Edjane, Hoof of Xavus and Elite of the Elite."

"I am Helen the Black. A witch, a sorcerer, a practitioner of the old ways, and ever a reminder of Xavus' foolhardy youth!" the old mare announces with jubilance.

"I am Prince Marrin of house Splitstake, heir of Numbra," Marrin says with vigour.

The group then turns their attention to the pioneers.

NORTH OF THE GUARD POST
[1+1+1=CRIT FAIL] Seems like an easy enough shot. Sam's pistol is still in his hand, so all it takes is a small adjustment and...

"BlagharoOoO!" the insane invader yells as he bites down into Sam's hand. His vice-like grip makes it impossible for Sam to shoot him as he bites into the officer's padded glove, causing pain but drawing no blood. He then uses his crowbar more effectively, using both hands to press it against Sam's neck. His face starts to lose colour as his lungs beg for air.

This might have been the end for him. However, one Neil Daniels is finally able to get a bullet into the bastard. He's standing right over the raider, so it'd be pretty pathetic if he did miss. Regardless, he shoots the lead raider in the head, sending a shower of brain and skull bits over Sam.

"Holy shit... Holy shit, are you okay?"

[13+3-2=14] Clair attempts to roll away, knocking one of the raiders down. When she tries to get up, the other raider kicks her back down and starts beating her with his bat. [14+1+1=16] The strikes are clumsy, but ruthless. Bruises form and bones are cracked as Clair endures quite a beating.

GUARD POST
Francis keeps an eye out for any other raiders, but it seems like there are no more surprises in store for the town.

Witt doesn't wait around. She slides down the ladder to the tower and runs to the edge of the roof, intent on killing the raiders in at the post. She fires down into the melee of the two raiders beating up the ghoul, but misses her shot. "God dammit!" Janice yells as she runs towards the stairs.

Gaze has something else in mind. He spots the slave on the side of the road and, with vengeance close to his heart, he shoots at her twice with his rifle. [17+3+3+2-3=22][2+3+3+1-2=7] The first shot gets her in the shoulder, and the second deflects off her collar. She lets out a scream of pain as she tumbles backwards into a ditch, out of sight.

Rachelle attempts to save the ghoul getting pummeled by shooting his attacker. [6+1+3=10] The laser scorches the raiders bare back, frying the skin and burning the muscle underneath. He turns and gives Rachelle a crazed look as he rushes at her at full speed. [18+3+1+4=26] In a slight panic, Rachelle fires another shot. This one sears the charging raider's face. His eyes burst as he crumbles to the ground, dead.

GHOST TOWN

[1+3+3=CRIT FAIL] You leave the alleyway for but a second to throw your smoke grenade and cause a diversion. Unfortunately, a nearby slaver spots you out of the corner of his eye. "Grenade!" he yells as he dives for cover. The other slavers stop what they're doing immediately and dive behind anything they can. A few moments pass as the smoke is released from the capsule. You have seconds to do something before they realize whats going on.

303
Now, now. Don't be silly you two.

I'd call his description a slight overreach, at best. I'm okay with such things as long as they aren't unreasonable. The fact that it was destroyed utterly doesn't really hinder any NPCs nor any other player, so I don't have a problem with it. If, say, he smashed the table over someones head and declared that it knocked them out, or grabbed someones weapon and snapped it in half, that would be God-modding.

The bottom line is that it was clear that this was a demonstration of strength. Since he's a minotaur, I think his description is acceptable.

NORTH OF THE GUARD POST
Sam abandoned his ally! [17+2+2=21] Sam dodges the raider's next attack and bolts for the guard post. "You can't get away from this, you little fuck!" the lead raider says as he chases Sam down and tackles him to the ground. Now on top of Sam, he begins to smash his crowbar repeatedly into Sam's helmet, which dazes Sam, but does little real damage. At least, little damage so far. Daniel tries once again to shoot the bandit attacking Sam, but misses both of the shots he fires.

[18+3+1=22] Clair jumps onto the closest raider and begins to beat the shit out of him. The bandit in question can't stop laughing as he's being beaten, but eventually shuts up when he falls unconscious, his face a bloody mess. Just before she is able to move onto the next raider, a baseball bat nails her in the side of the head, knocking her back to the ground. The two raiders that were once knocked down converge on Clair, kicking her while she's prone.

GUARD POST
[10+1+3+2=16] Francis fires at thew rifle wielding raider twice, getting him in the shoulder and the leg. Witt follows up with this attack by shooting the same raider in the neck, killing him. Janice grabs her gun and tries once more to shoot the invaders, but misses. At least she keeps her gun this time.

Gaze takes a moment to inhale some jet. His muscles tense up and his pupils dilate as the drug courses through his system. He pops back up and looks for the leader. As far as he knew, the leader was the most well armed person, but that raider was already dead. So instead, he targets the raider with the pistol. [3+3+3=9][10+3+3=16] The first shot misses the raider by a hair, but the second one gets him in the chest, knocking him down. He stops moving.

[19+1+3=CRIT] Below the three of them, Rachelle begins shooting at the invading raiders. She waits for just the right time to fire, shooting one of the raiders in the head. It's a spectacular shot, disintegrating the bastard's head into dust! This might cause pause in some folk, but these raiders are relentless. Two of them jump over the defenses and swarm one of the ghouls, and the other knocks the second ghoul off his feet and begins bashing him with his hammer.

GHOST TOWN
[19+3+3+5=30] Hopefully clear of the slavers, Simega sneaks into town. And what a sneaky bastard he is. He takes the back alleys and stays out of sight, but follows the noise. Peeking out from the darkness, he finds that there are several other men with guns and chains in the town, dragging ghouls out of their homes. Several dead ghouls lie in the streets. Apparently there's no one here to protect them.

EQUESTRIA, CLAN HALL WAITING ROOM
"Don't be so hasty there, stripes. I've had pony before. Not that I had much of a choice in the matter. It was either the pony or me. Still, the taste was okay, if a bit bland," Sasha responds, checking her gauntlet for scratches.

"I'd rather not talk about this, if that's okay with the rest of you. How about this: Would each of you kindly give your names and talents? After all, I'll be joining two of you on an adventure, so we should get to know each other a little bit." The unicorn mare says calmly, with an air of confidence. "I'm Autumn Switch, and I can control the weather, to a degree. I also have talent as a falconer. Scouting and control are my specialties."

"Isn't that special? Well, I'm Sasha, and I know how to survive in the wilds. I'm also pretty good at killing folks, and protecting others, if it suits me."

"Hi! I'm Mead Mix, but most ponies call me Mel. I am pretty good at bargaining and negotiating, and getting ponies to laugh! Alchemy's also my strong suit."

NUMBRA, LORD XAVUS' MANOR
"Do not concern yourself with niceties. My lord understands that you are farlanders, and doesn't expect you to know much of our ways. I will say, though, that you shouldn't address Lady Esse unless she asks you a question. And don't encourage Helen to go on with one of her stories. Just be respectful, and answer my Lord's questions truthfully."

306
I probably should of clarified this in the post: the Swift Dogs are a tribe of ponies that employ fighting animals, not diamond dogs.

307
That appears to be an npc. Which race?

Earth pony. Autumn Switch is a unicorn.

Roll To Dodge / Re: Byntanium: Sellswords of the Binary System [8/6]

JECTION PHARM, LEVEL -2
Turgidly checks out the decryption to find it still has five minutes to go. He can force the decryption, but he might fuck it up and set the module back a few minutes. The fortified mainframes may be resistant to ballistic fire, but energy weapons might have a decent impact.

Lokk-Agar checks outside, but it's hard to see the full effect of the blast with all the dust in the air. You can hear coughing and screaming coming from the south. "Four hot!" one voice cries out. "One hot! R&R!". After that, the hall quiets down. The way seems clear of enemies. Lokk climbs over the huge pile of rubble and heads west, towards Confinement. The air is still thick with dust, he can only see about five feet in front of him... But there's this sound in the air. Some kind of low buzz. It's only too late that Lokk recognizes the sound of plasma whirring. An arrow cuts through the air and plants itself into Lokk's right shoulder. The plasma tip boils his blood and melts his bone, causing an unimaginable searing pain. Instinctively, Lokk jumps to the side, fearing the worst. That fear saves his life, as a battered Dread Mother slices the air where he once stood with her laser-edge blade.

JECTION PHARM, LEVEL 1
Armoth would find his terminal still in working order, though now covered by a layer of dust. The two mercenaries that were on guard rush inside, weapons ready.

"Eleven calling out! Come in, over!" you hear one cry into his radio. The other runs up to the desk.

"You, guard. What's going on down there?!"

THE CISTERN
"What do you get? Surely you've heard of Sellswords before? Sponsors are essential for any Sellsword to make real money. Real money... A lot of money. Contacts, trainers, protection, adventure. Do these not entice you?"

Across the room, on the other side of the arena, a degwalker waits for the next round to start. Does he find himself down here in the Depths very often? Who knows. All I know is this charismatic asshole was ready to make some money.

Format suggestions/requests:

Players: Not everyone's character name matches their forum name. For clarity I propose we make a general policy of putting our character name in bold at the top of turn submissions, as shown here.

GM: Could we get links in the opening post of the in and out of character threads linking to each other? Also, would you edit the OP to include a player to character namelist and description? Something like:

Player list
 * Aurora Dawn, unicorn mare played by LordBucket
 * Sam Harvey, minotaur bull played by Patrick Hunt

Thanks.

Sure. Sorry, I was really tired when I made the thread. I forgot to link it here! Here's the IC. I'll update the OP in a sec.

Also, Bucket, your character is in Equestria atm, not in Numbra. Refer to the first section of the post.

One week. Six days. 168 hours. That doesn't seem like that long a time for most, but for our intrepid pioneers, it was eons. Adventure, death, betrayal, Daemons, scorn, mystery. All contained within a span of one week. In that time, our pioneers made new friends, and new enemies. They parlayed and fought. They bargained and discovered. But the adventure is just beginning.

Even now, the ring convenes, discussing possibilities and electing prospective adventurers to fill in the gaps. The Royal Court grew tired of the ring's squabbling, and needed placation. The Arcani had been missing for several weeks. Even the Illustrious Eighth had low morale. The ring needed a victory. If not for their own sake, for Equestria's. If not for Equestria, for the very foundation of the Pioneer. Out of thirty-six prospectives, six were chosen. Six beings who each brought their own special talent to the table. There was a semblance of hope, of unspoken but implied expectation that  some of these six initiates would push the boundaries of Equestria's understanding of the outside world further, and to bolster the morale of Pioneers everywhere. No pressure.

EQUESTRIA, CLAN HALL WAITING ROOM

A familiar sight, no? Aurora, Sam, Basayen; Sasha, a griffon; Autumn Switch, a Swift Dog; and Mead Mix, the Equestrian, all sit in the anteroom that precedes the clan ring chamber. Each was told to 'wait for the scribe to call them'. One could only guess what was going on behind those doors. More arguing, perhaps? That seemed to be the trend as of late. With the trial of Tipped Scales coming up, and the recent conflict between Endless Hurricane and Regal Silver, the ring looked quite the mess. Confidence in their ability to lead the city was waning, and the once concrete confidence in the Pioneers was cracking and chipping away. Could any of these initiates really make a difference?

Each was already told of the details of their initiation. Half of these prospectives would become pioneers, and be placed in the newest Band, the Far Walkers. Teleported miles and miles away, deep into the Farlands, they would embark on a quest of discovery. It was a great honour to become a Pioneer, but perhaps some of the significance is lost on these foreigners? Only one of them was Equestrian. The rest came from other tribes, cities, even entirely different continents.

This was the first time they've all been in one place, and not a word has been spoken. The mood was tense. Each of these beings was competing for a prized position and a once in a lifetime opportunity. Who would be the first to speak up?

NUMBRA, LORD XAVUS' MANOR
The Pioneers made their purchases, Borak buying a scroll of barrier and a scroll of forced blink for 80 pelee and Flame Flipper buying a scroll of fire rain for 50 pelee, and returned to the manor. As they entered, a servant informed them that dinner would be served soon. Edjane nods, and turns to the group. "Alright, you're dismissed for now, Mouri. The rest of you, follow me." Mouri nods and takes his leave wordlessly. Edjane leads the group to the dining room door, but before she enters, she turns to face the Pioneers. "What you say and do here at this dinner will determine if my husband will allow you to pass through his lands. You will meet my fellow wives, the Body, Helen the Black; the Mind, Melesa; and the Heart, Lady Esse. Of course, Marrin will be here too. Do you have any questions before we enter?"

311
We got everyone signed up, now all I need to do is put up the thread! Expect that soon.

312
1330, Fire

Event Phase
Kardarvi
You are being raided by the Lysang. They eluded your patrols, but your watchtower allowed you to spot the raiders ahead of time. Your 8 weaponthanes and 120 footmen are facing 11 weaponthanes and 102 spearmen.

Manskinner
You are being raided by the beastmen. Your patrols spotted them, and your 13 weaponthanes and 132 footmen are facing 20 centaurs and 163 other beastmen.

Snapping Turtle
A scouting party discovers a rich farmland not far from your stead. It is inhabited by strange beast folk who behave sort of like normal Orlanthi and call themselves the Rune Ducks. For once, both warriors and carls agree: it would be a fine thing to drive these small, inhuman creatures from this fertile valley and claim it as your own.
Spoiler: Clan Ring (click to show/hide)

Wolani
You are being raided by the Six Brothers. Their forces eluded your patrols, and your 6 weaponthanes and 102 footmen are facing 10 weaponthanes and 139 axemen.

313
Kardarvi
You send Ferena, 2 weaponthanes, and 5 footmen on a quest for the weapon. You should hear back from them in time.

You send Rostakos with a medium caravan, guarded by 2 weaponthanes and 12 footmen, to the Badgers in the hopes of establishing a route. He returns, successful.
Spoiler: Party (click to show/hide)

Manskinner
((Ghazkull has been offline for a few days, so I'm automating him for now))

Marlesta attempts a different tactic. She grabs the Skin of Morle and yells to the holy warrior. "You are Begnar, but I am Morle of the Chaotic. Can you truly face a Chaos god?" The man wavers a bit, but doesn't respond. Instead, he charges Marlesta. This is just what she wanted. She calls for her allies to converge on the holy man, who is now surrounded by enemies. She gets a lighting bolt for her trouble, but the holy man is knocked off his horse.

There was a terrific fight. The forces both charged, clashing dramatically. You had no magic to spend, but neither did they. You drove the enemy from the field, chasing them down as they ran. You captured 9 cattle and 6 horses, along with 15 cows worth of loot. You had no auxiliaries to heal the wounded. 2 weaponthanes died and 2 were injured, while 6 footmen died and 19 were injured. The Blue Jays lost 4 weaponthanes and 28 swordsmen.

NORTH OF THE GUARD POST
[4+2+3+2-1=10] Sam's bullet deflects off of the raider's headdress. The raider spins around dramatically for effect, before laughing hysterically. Unfortunately, the chaos of the battle interferes with your message to the girl, who crawls to the side of the road. Daniels tries his luck, aiming for the leader. Unfortunately, his shot doesn't even come close to hitting the raider. This bolsters his morale, as he charges Sam. He swings his crowbar into Sam's head, cracking the visor on his helmet and sending Sam into a world of hurt.

[10+3+2=15] Clair's sweeping kick proves to be more effective. Three of the four raiders go after the person without the gun, but that logic backfires as they're all knocked prone by the kick.

GUARD POST
[8+1+3+2=14] Francis fires at the invading lunatics, getting one wielding a bat in the leg. Janice fires once with her magnum, but is unprepared for the kick. The shot misses as the gun tumbles to the floor. Witt proves to be more competent, killing one of the raiders by shooting him in the head. The raider with the rifle starts shooting at Witt, but misses.

Gaze ((who has been offline for several days)) attempts to shoot one of the raiders, and fails.

Down in the guard post proper, the two ghouls are the only ones keeping the raiders out of the town. Hobbes ran away in a panic, leaving Rachelle as the lone vault dweller defending on the ground. Rachelle turn to ask Morgue what she should do, but she finds that Morgue got the fuck out as soon as he could. The guard post is almost breached. Your fight or flight instinct should be kicking in soon.

OUTSIDE GHOST TOWN
You feel with two pistols on you, using a smoke grenade would be nigh suicidal, so you go with sweet talk. You attempt to get on their level, but they seem unamused. "What, you think we're raiders or something? That's a good one. We're with the Chain, mate. Now, the weapons?" Seeing no other alternative, you take out one of your acid grenades and pretend to hand it over, only to set it off in the leaders face. His look of confusion turns more into a look of acidface as he grasps his head in pain. "AAAGH! Fuckfuckfuck! Kill this bitch!" But by the time the two others recover from the blast, you're already on your way sprinting back to town. They fire a few shots as they chase you, but none of them connect.

You make it back to the southern guard post looking for safety, but you find that there's no one on guard! You can hear screaming coming from inside the town...

315
Your sheet looks good, Patrick. You're in! I'm just waiting on Geek now, who has already messaged me about some details.
