Two hundred years ago, in the shadow of the mountain at the center of the world, your ancestors fought a great war against the dragons.

Your ancestors lost.

The dragons ate every warrior who marched against them. They ate every magician who supported the warriors. Then they ate everyone else.
The only survivors were those who had remained in the south, outside the land called Dragon Pass. For two hundred years, Dragon Pass was nothing to you but a death sentence, a haunted boneyard, an enemy camp.

But civil war in your ancestral lands forced your clan to find a new home. A few heroes dared to explore the forbidden land to the north. That these heroes returned at all was amazing. That they returned to tell you that the dragons are gone and that Dragon Pass is nearly empty, open for the taking — this is a gift from the gods.

Your clan is part of the second wave of resettlement of Dragon Pass. You number some eight or nine hundred souls: mostly farmers and children, some warriors, a few nobles and magicians and god-talkers. You seized land not far from the holy mountain called Kero Fin, the mountain that gave birth to your chief god, the god of Storm named Eunae.

You are not the only clan that came north. As many as twenty other clans or splinters of clans separated themselves from kinfolk and carved homes in this new frontier. Like you, they are Eunaen. Your relations with these clans, for good or for war, determine whether your clan starts up a path of glory or drifts forgotten with the spirits who haunt this ancient land.

Who will be the one to rise above the rest, start a tribe, and unite the peoples of Dragon Pass under one king?

King of Dragon Pass is a strategy/role playing game made by A Sharp, released in 1999 on DOS. It’s one of my favourite games of all time and I highly recommend you play it through GoG or any mobile device app store if you like strategy games with random events.

Anyways, I’d like to run a game similar to KoDP here on the forums. The game will run much like a game of KoDP would. You select actions for your tribe and random things happen that you have to deal with. Eventually, the goal is for one of the players to prove themselves worthy of becoming the king of Dragon Pass. I’m looking for four players for this venture.

Lore and Info
King of Dragon Pass is a fantasy setting that takes place in a time of tribes, cattle raids, and religious sacrifice. In order to keep the game challenging, I’ve elected to replace the pantheon with my own, but keep many of the customs the same. On that note, I give you the altered introduction to the game:
Spoiler: Introduction (click to show/hide)
That’s the history of your people. At generation, you’ll be allowed to make several decisions concerning the history of your clan. That’ll be covered in the Gameplay section. Here’s the altered pantheon of the game:
Spoiler: Pantheon (click to show/hide)
And finally, I give you the myths of Eunae. Eunaens sometimes venture into the realm of the gods to reenact these myths, so as to gain the god’s favour. Note that these are not complete, as it is part of the game to rediscover these myths through sacrifice.
Spoiler: Myths (click to show/hide)

I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff you need to know... Just ask and I'll be glad to add to the lore.

Gameplay
Each turn lasts one season. A player will submit a series of actions during each turn. You can either submit two major actions, three minor actions, or one major and one minor action. Here’s an exclusive list of actions you may take:

Actions
Spoiler: Clan Actions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Farming Actions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Diplomatic Actions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Trade Actions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: War Actions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Religious Actions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Other Actions (click to show/hide)

Events
After actions are taken, random events occur. These can be personal events, clan-wide events, or global events. Personal events are events that happen to one person, usually someone on your clan ring. Clan-wide events are events that concern the whole clan. Global events concern every clan in Dragon Pass.

Seasons
Sea: Planting season. Good time to explore and send missions. Raiding is not advised, as the fyrd is composed of the farmers that are supposed to be sowing crops.
Fire: Great raiding season, the crops can be left to themselves.
Earth: Much like Sea season. Crops must be harvested, so stick to more passive actions.
Dark: The winter is bitter cold, and the snow drifts are strong. A time to rest and listen to the gods.
Storm: An unpredictable season. The snow is melting, but a storm could come at any time. Raiding and exploring are possible, if a bit dangerous.
Sacred Time: Sacred Time is a season that takes place during the last two weeks of the year. It is the time when your clan performs sacred rituals to prepare for the year to come. The most important thing about the Sacred Time is allocation of magic.

Magic
Your clan gets a certain amount of magic every year to allocate to the various aspects of life. This is a numerical value. You may save some magic to use later in emergencies. Every year at Sacred Time you allocate your clan magic to the following categories.
Spoiler: Catagories (click to show/hide)

Battle
At the start of the battle you have several choices. You may use magic for aid, sacrifice to gods (mainly Begnar and Eunae), employ treasures, choose your tactics, and choose your objective. Here’s the breakdown:
Allocating Magic: You simply choose how much magic you wish to commit to the battle.
Sacrificing: You may choose to sacrifice to several gods, depending on what you want. Do note that sacrificing takes time, time that your adversary might use to strike first.
Employing Treasures: You may use any relic or artifact that’s applicable to the situation.
Choosing Tactics: The four tactics offered in the DOS game are Skirmish (Uses missile weapons to damage the enemy), Maneuver (Try to trick the enemy, thwarted by charge), Charge (Full out attack the enemy without wasting any time), and Evade (Counter a charge). You may use any of these, but I encourage you to be more creative.
Choosing Objective: What you want to accomplish. Some examples include:  plunder, kill as many of the enemy as possible, flee, burn down fortifications, take captives, and drive the enemy off.

Battle is composed of two phases, the initial clash and the melee. During the initial clash, the two sides’ tactics are compared. Whoever wins that exchange gets a bonus in the next phase: the melee. During the melee, the strength of the two sides’ magic, forces, and thanes are considered.  Whoever wins the melee wins the battle, and gets the loot.
Spoiler: Sample Battle (click to show/hide)

Clan Creation
Spoiler: Clan Sheet (click to show/hide)

Logistics

As the four of you will be competing, I don't think it'd be very logical to let you see each other's clan stats. As such, I'll be giving you each a google doc link that'll be updated with the turns. As an extension of the privacy, you'll be sending any action involving subterfuge or hostile actions towards your opponents through PM (if you wish). Also, all information and actions related to Heroquests will be sent through PM as well.

"Blade?  you mean the one the dread mothers are guarding?  Give me the location, and if you give me the wrong one it will end badly for you."

Get location of the blade.

"It's in the basement," she starts, matter-of-factly. "Past the three high sec doors. But tell me something. How did you know the blade was here? We were so careful..." she trails off.

Step inside his reach then start feinting throwing punches at his whole body but only trying to kick his weak side. Keep my legs tenses to leap back if he attempts to counter attack.

Keep feinting until I've run through 3 full sets then begin a forth but this time stop mid kick and quickly throw a kick at his ribs from the opposite side instead.

You throw a series of punches and kicks, feinting and attacking. Until you overreach your bounds. During one of your kicks, you open a slight window of opportunity for your opponent, who counterattacks. He does a sweeping kick, knocking you to the floor. You have but a fraction of a second to react before Mitt inevitably follows up with a second, more decisive attack.

"Janice, I'm sure we look like freaks to them as well so shh, please. And Daniels...I'll let Sam take that question."

Wanderer the town for problems

I'm not sure what problems you're looking for, but there are sure to be some around here.

You wander around a bit, past the commons, until you come upon a group of ghouls standing around an old generator attached to the side of a building. They're talking among themselves quietly. That is, until the generator makes a loud pop sound and sends one of the ghoul into a flurry of curses. Maybe you could help out?

Sam looks at Daniels in dissapointment for a moment.

"Obviously we sleep together and 2 people stand guard at a time. Calm down Daniels."

It's only as he speaks that it becomes obvious Sam is straining not to blink and wincing every time he fails.

"I'm calm... I'm fine, just being cautious here," Daniels says, agitated.

"Janice, I've got to be honest here, you can go ahead and leave to do whatever you want to, but I'm not even going to consider goin' along with you. This place is, in my mind our best option for surviving out here and later on down the road, taking out the bastards that attacked the vault.
All I'm saying is, they've given us a chance, and I know I'm not going to go and squander it."

Francis turns his head slightly towards Daniels.

"I get the need for cautiousness, but that's no reason to leave the place. And as Sam said, we can keep guard during the nights."

Janice doesn't respond, she just gives you a sour look.

"Okay, we'll keep watch. That sounds good."

Follow the Ghouls.

The group, minus Clair, heads into the large building that Brakes hurried off to. As you walk down the street you pass ghouls that give you passing glances of guarded suspicion. None of them stop you, or even interact with you. They just go about their lives.

The buildings are much the same as on the outskirts, boarded up and partially repaired. Some of them even have their old signs. Pizza Lad, Electronics Ba-dum, Barton Dry Press, all artifacts of a lost age. Soon, you reach your destination, a building with a worn out sign depicting someone rollerskating. You enter to find a large rollerskating rink covered in tables and shelves. Several ghouls are already here, talking and eating. Brakes waves you over to a table near the centre of the room.

"Don't mind Witt. She's the isolationist type, ya see. I'll see what I can do about keeping you guys around for a bit... Hey, I bet you got a buch of questions for me. You know, about the wasteland and such. Lay 'em on me."

"Right! I suppose you all can be trusted to see this matter through, so I'll be moving on then, eh?"

Move on, eh. Help Hawk with the whole finding the mainframe thing, avoid Dread Mothers.
I'll search for the mainframe(check a map(computer) to help find it?)

You recall the map seen before...

Spoiler: The floor below you (click to show/hide)

But there's a S card locked door keeping you from the mainframe. Asking the prisoners, Floren speaks up. "I have an S class card. No doubt you'll be needing if if you intend to steal the blade." The vesuan keeps quiet. Do you head to the bottom floor of the facility?

Meanwhile, up on the first floor...

Armoth would see a little red light start flashing on his terminal. ALERT: A-CLASS CARD SOUNDING ALERT... SECURITY BREACH CLASS 3, ALL SECURITY PERSONNEL TO SECURITY STATION LAB B3! and a second warning, Insufficient security personnel on staff. Please call mercenaries to action. And finally, a third pop-up, Automated general distress call in progress... Cancel? Y/N

Watch the matches and remember the fighting styles of the winners so I know who I'm up against in my next fight. Once next fight is announced to the rounds again placing the max bet allowed on myself with as many people as possible.

(( If you just begin the fight to save time. ))

Charge the moment the fight begins aiming for the weak side of whatever fighter I'm against. Aim for the gut and knees to put them on the ground again.

The clerk tells you you'll be up against a man named Mitt. From afar, you spot your adversary. He doesn't look as strong as Major, but still stronger than the average man. Mitt looks out of place in the Depths. Clean shaven and without any scars, wearing common street clothes. He distances himself from the others, with a smug grin on his face.

The fight right after yours pits Mitt against some street scum. Mitt dances around his opponent with masterful agility as the scum tries to bash him with a hammer. After a few minutes of this, Mitt's opponent tires himself out, becoming easy prey. Much like you, Mitt walks away without a scratch.

The odds are more equal this time around, you find. People now fully understand how dangerous you are, and as such the odds are pretty close. About half of the bet takers place you on the winning side, while the others favour your opponent. The most favourable odds place you at 5:2 on while the worst odds put you at 3:1. You place your bets even with the favourable odds, totaling 530c total put up. You calculate your total winnings, including stakes, to be 980c.

You enter and begin your attack, vying not to take a weapon. You think his left side is weaker, so you run to his side, attempting to punch him in the gut. Unfortunately, your punch flies to the side of your target as he jumps away from you. Mitt doesn't counter-attack. Instead, he keeps his fists up and locks eyes with you. There's a calmness in his eyes that only comes with formal training.

Wolf is a he mate.

I just assume gender based on avatar and name, and also on the character's gender. Though I know none of these things are a reliable indication. He it is, then.

Also, I wasn't sure if you were going to post a response IC. Well, I assumed you were, seeing as how you asked the NPC a question, but you were taking too long, so I moved the thread along.

"I can't cook, but I'm a psychologist. Can't imagined that ghouls have good mental health with your bodies decaying. I'm also good in close combat."

"A shrink? I thought saw the end of your kind when the bombs fell. I don't think anybody around here wants their minds picked, 'specially by a stranger. You could ask around, though."

Well, if I can't blow them up, I might as well stay here. Do tell me, how well defended is your "Ghost Town"? I can help you set up some traps and defenses.

"I don't want you thinkin' you're gonna stay here for too long. We already got one smoothskin squatter, we don't want any more."

"Hold on a sec. What can you make us, exactly?" Brakes puts in eagerly.

"I'm pretty good with guns, I guess... And I have some skills that might be useful as far as cooking goes."

"We need guns more than we need cooks. If you could stand guard, or at least be a spotter in the towers, that's help out."

"Here, why don't we continue this little talk inside. I almost got eaten by a yao today. Being scared to death really takes it out of you. Meet me over there, in the commons," With that, the ghoul heads to the bigger building near the centre of the settlement, motioning the group to follow along. However, Witt stands in your path.

"Don't get any funny ideas. I'm letting you stay here out of pity, don't make me regret my decision to let you roam the town freely. If you give me reason to suspect you of stealing something, breaking something, doing anything that might piss me off, I'll have your weapons confiscated and send you out on your own. And that's if I'm feeling generous," she threatens, ever neutral. She turns and heads down the street, allowing the group to do what they will.

"I don't think I can stand being around these freaks. We should just leave," Janice whispers.

"I'm close to agreeing. What if these... ghouls aren't right in the head? What if they kill us in our sleep and take our equipment?" Daniels says in a hushed tone. Hobbes stays silent, ghostly pale.

Forgive the momentary lull while I sort things out with Yoink. We'll be on our way to glory momentarily.

Aw. I was gonna ask if I could, but I see the spot's been taken. Oh well.

I could make a waitlist for the thread, if you want. But this isn't RTD, so I don't expect characters to die as often. I don't know whats going on with wolfchild, but I think she's coming back.

413
If you need another player, I guess I could step up- the party needs a new "sane" person now after all, with Fniff gone. :P
(Clarification: That refers to the hypothetical character I'd be playing, not to myself. Obviously.)

Not exactly sure who/what I would be playing.

Well, you could be pretty much anything the wasteland would have. Besides super mutant, those are off limits right now. But you could be a ghoul, a reformed raider, a merc, a technocultist, or a wastelander. Just throw something by me and I'll tell you if it's feasible.

Maintain position at Desk.

Not much is going on right now at the front desk, I'm afraid. But maybe that's a good sign?

Aim low to take his legs off the ground or break his knee. Once he's down take my foot to his face. Hard.

You kick him in the side of his knee, forcing him to the ground without much issue. Then, with him in a vulnerable position, you spin around and kick him in the face, sending several teeth flying. Major falls to the ground, defeated.

The crowd waits a beat in disbelief before cheering for you. "Red! Red! Red!" they chant. You exit the arena and collect your winnings for that round, 840c. The clerk informs you that you earned a 50c bonus for fighting without a weapon, to be payed at the end of the tourney. There are 15 more rounds of fighting before you're up again, would you like to watch the matches?

Make sure they comply, while keeping my eyes on the other doors into the room.
Help securing these people, particularly our lady-friend. Wonder if there's actually an extraction path that we can take these people on.
Action: Secure out exit path for extraction of the HVT

"Very well," she says. The two scientists slowly drop to the floor in compliance. Party willing, you secure the hostages with the zip ties you got from Armoth. No alarm has gone off, you're still ghost.

((Don't forget, you all still need to get to the mainframe and get the data.))

Flit nods, and makes a motion with her hand-indicating she'll take the North Door, and they all charge in at once.

Action: Flit sneaks around to the North Entrance so she can cut off any avenue of escape. Then she charges in with the rest! Don't engage in melee, though, just use my shotgun as a motivator. Try not to shoot anyone.
"Right then! Each of us covers a particular entrance, yes? One of us should go and take the west hallway, eh?"

Take up position at south entrance, cautiously look into the lab. Anything particularly interesting in there, aside from presumably our target?

Hawk and Lokk take position at the west entrances, and you four are set to enter...

You can't see into the room without opening the door fully, since it's electronically controlled. So you decide it's best to charge in and ask questions later.

The four of you enter simultaneously, drawing weapons and keeping your eyes peeled. The lab you enter is full of large tanks covered with warning labels and numbers, as well as several empty basins in the floor. Two scientists stand near the centre of the room with PDAs, looking at a terminal. When the group activates the doors, the two scientists look up. One of them, the vesuan, drops his PDA in fear and looks around. The other one, the hintling woman, seems less surprised.

"I should have known. These tanks are extremely reliable, only a saboteur could cause a leak like this..." She puts her PDA on the table and puts her hands in the air. The vesuan quickly raises his hands as well, shaking. "We won't resist, no need for guns." The woman seems completely unafraid.

"We not charging, we are going to find a place to call home, get weapons, allies and plans. Then we charge to their death."

"Well, you won't be planning anything around these parts. We're on the Clerics' good side, and we intend to keep it that way. Can't have you guys plotting something while under our roofs," she says with a neutral tone.

"Well, let's not be too hasty, Witt. These guys just lost everything to the Clerics. We can at least give 'em some good ol' fashioned Ghost Town hospitality for a bit, 'till they recover." The woman doesn't respond to that.

Sam just shrugs.

" THey killed our family, we will kill them but my death is not part of the plan.

I'm a patient man. Anything we can do to help you in exchange for your hospitslity?
"

"Depends. What can you do? We could use a man or two in the towers. Or if any of you can cook at all, that'd be useful. If you stick around for a while, we might bring you along for a little raid. That'll teach you a bit about the wasteland." That sounds a little like an invitation to stay, but her tone makes it ambiguous.

I'm not charging to my death foolishly. Actually, I plan on blowing their place up with some big explosives. Have you got any gundpowder or silver fulminate around?

She ignores your request.

"We don't got anything like that. You'd have to go to a factory, or the city or something," Brakes puts in, attracting a mean glare from Witt.

Just disappear. Sorry, it's just that this RP moves way faster then I can keep up with.

Very well. I was glad to have you as a player. I wish you luck on your roleplaying endeavors.

Sam looks uneasy for a moment then sighs and holds his hand out suppressing a shudder.

" I'm Sam, mind taking us back with you? I think we need to talk with you. Btw, have you seen any girls running around here other then those with us? "

"I'm Brakes," he says, reciprocating the handshake. "Girls? None you'd be interested in, hehe. Here, I'll take you to Ghost Town, where the water is brown, and the people are decaying." He holsters his gun and starts walking west.

For the rest of the trek, Brakes doesn't say much. He asks a few questions about the vault. Mostly, he's wondering if the Clerics left anything behind. When Daniels tells him they took everything, he switches topics. He occasionally points out the local flora, but you can't be sure if he's fucking with you or not.

"That's a Goosewillow Hubblecock, prized for its healing properties. Oh, and that's a Pumpernickle Supreme, very tasty." Yeah, he's probably fucking with you. After a while of this, the group reaches the edge of the forest. The ghoul's town is in sight. It doesn't look anything like the cities you've seen in the history books. Run down, decaying, and smelling of burnt rubber. The buildings have been repaired and altered by the ghouls. Sheets of metal are bolted into walls, barricades block windows, and a few towers have been built on top of the buildings. This might have been a strip mall at one point, you observe, but it has been changed into a small town. Several other ghouls are milling about the squalor. Brakes calls to them, and several wave back.

"Ah, home sweet home! What d'you think, smoothies? Not quite as nice as your vault, but it's pretty decent compared to most places here on the surface."

A woman approaches. She wears a similar garb to Brakes: leather studded with metal. "These folks from the vault, I take it?" she says, taking notice of the groups jumpsuits.

"Yeah, survivors. They told me there's nothing left to take, so I guess I failed." He gives an apologetic shrug.

"Whatever. Not like I expected much from you, anyways." She turns her attention to the vault dwellers. "So I guess you lot are thinking of doing something dumb and suicidal, like going after the Clerics?"

"Yes, we are! Everything we know was obliterated!" Janice responds. "There's no way we're gonna let them live after what they did!"

The woman raises an eyebrow. "Is that how the rest of you feel? You want to charge to your deaths?"

420
I'm planning on running something, and I got something coming up. I think I might have to count myself out of this.

Ah, well that's a shame. I had so much planned for you, too. Well, I have plans for everyone, but it's still a shame.

Would you like your character to die or disappear?
