"Throughout ancient history, "adamantine" referred to anything that was made of a very hard material. Virgil describes Tartarus as having a screeching gate protected by columns of solid adamantine (Aeneid book VI). Later, by the Middle Ages, the term came to refer to diamond, as it was the hardest material then known, and remains the hardest non-synthetic material known."

Quite discussed in the other thread.  A diamond sword would shatter on impact with any armor harder than "leather," as would a diamond arrowhead, resulting in a net 0 damage to the target and the loss of a rather valuable weapon/ammo.

Because a channel as it used to exist, well, doesn't anymore.  "Channel" magma and "non channel" magma are the same thing.

I love how when it envelops (eats) you, you get to see its insides. XD
But yeah, vampiric mists are kinda deadly.  At least you don't have to put up with polterguiets.  Invisible and Incorporeal, all they do is cast Fear at you.

That's it, and it was the most annoying encounter EVER as you can't move towards a creature that you're affraid of, you can't hit it even if you made the save (you can't see it, therefor you can't target it) and even by sure CHANCE you get a swing at it, it's immune to your weapon (lulz, incorporeal).

It got banished to DL 2 after several complaints.

I managed to deal with them once--ONCE--when I found a wand of polymorph.

Also, Vampires who cast Charm are ghey.  "Lolz, I've charmed you, your now my friend.  Let me beat the crap out of you" *beat beat beat.*  You: "Ha, you hit me, you're not my friend!" *targeting, attack, attack failed: can't hit allies* "Bwa?  I thought Charm was broken when the caster attacked the target..."  Vampire: "Nope!" *beat beat beat* You: *Death* x.x

See the Incursion Roguelike game for how to do "generic" larger creatures...
code:

+++
+E+
+++

+++++
+++++
++E++
+++++
+++++

etc.  Incursion, I think, went up to 25 +'s wide

So, in otherwords, like Roads and Bridges?

Of the five threads on DF being multi-threaded here's what Toady has had to say (in the two oldest ones).

He's said "NO, QUIT ASKING!" repeatedly.  In fact, he doesn't even read threads that ask for it anymore.  I don't blame him.  Multi-threading is not a simple opperation, even for simple programs: what happens if one thread runs slower than the rest?  How do the others know to pause?
