Archer sets a second magical flare, of the same flavor of fire magic as the extinguished beacon. Perhaps someone had been scared off by the note, or had misjudjed which tower was to be the meeting place. This beacon is a barest ember, burning for no more than an hour and placed atop an antenna so its flickering might be visible to even nonmagical senses in the city below.

"I fear there may be no allies for us amongst the other Grail seekers, Faye. Do you have a suggestion for how to proceed without one? I am reluctant to offer you a sword yourself..." After a slight pause, Archer continues, "You are no king, yet, nor a close friend nor soldier under my command. You can, of course, take them... Archer taps his shoulder, mirroring Faye's Command Seals. "But I hope that would be an act of desperation."

((Plot contrivance for the sake of getting things moving. I had strongly considered it earlier, despite uh... not doing it.))

Archer takes the opportunity to scan the city, looking out from the tower's vantage. Has anything been done about the pile of bodies where he was ambushed? Has anything else especially noticeable befallen the city?

Dear Army, you look good giving us suicide bombs. You'd look even better if you didn't.
XXX love, Airforce.

As 'Doing God's Work', but trade the Adderbolt purchase for 3 Fallschrim set purchases. Give them to the last three schwadrons without parachutes.

Excerpts from the sentencing of Elda Rollenhec, for her crimes against Aratam, humanity, and reason, Part 1

Those damn scientists have ruined everything. We were powerful, immortal, safe. There'll be a CryoStat Tank on every corner now, every common rat will use them.
I'm starting an insurance policy now, while we still have our positions. Four Corsairs and an Atlas; run 'em off the new Bio-Paste reactors since they won't be going to port anytime soon. Stock the Atlas with a set of CryoTanks and strategic reserve amounts of chemicals.
Hide the costs for all this in the CryoState budget, what do we care if it gets delayed. Divert crew, technicians, and troops into a black site program. Nobody will question it.
Burn this after you read it, Evenham.

ELDA ROHELLEC: Is that you, Evenham? We've been found out, save yourself. I'm leaving with the insurance.
BEO AGENT: Identify yourself! This location is under BEO-

Revision to Pilot's Gear: Parachute Pack

As the war in the skies continues to escalate, it has become obvious that parachutes like the ones deployed elsewhere in Europe will become a necessity, lest our best pilots face certain death should their plane become inoperable. A waxed cloth dome folded into a backpack set to pop open when a cord is released, the parachute balloons to a giant air-catch when deployed, slowing a fall to a much safer pace.

Obama wasn't perfect either.
We can find or create even better presidents than Obama in the future, Obama forever is not a realistic political stance.

Maybe not enough people, but some payed attention to the bad things that happened under Obama and pushed back. He didn't always respond to it (drone program, oh boy the drone program, immigration stuff including caging people), but he did good in a lot of places too. Trump is worse everywhere Obama did good, and monstrous anywhere he focuses, and ignores all pushback unless it can get on TV for weeks straight. He holds rallies to egg on the people egging him on to be even worse. It doesn't make sense to round everything down to "neither one's perfect" and pretend that makes them the same.

If you want the line between not Hitlerish and Hitlerish, it's glee. He lives for the cruelty. He despises the people he hurts, and asks his staff to find legal ways to make them suffer. This is not a normal way to govern.

SalmonGod's take was fairly reasonable. Didn't call out people for being Hitler, or even Nazis, just boring quiet (specifically not card-carrying) racists who'll vote for even worse people than themselves. That was immediately called an extreme take because it encompassed too many republicans.

Not trying to change the group that voted for the current crop of Republicans in office means they won't change. You can still beat them by numbers, but if you aren't allowed to point out what they've done the ones who'll care will never notice. If telling the truth won't help, do it anyways. Lying to them and saying they haven't done evil is what they do for eachother, and it has made things a lot worse.
