Holy fucking hell, do cops even do a psych exam these days? Or is it a mere formality where they jot down a passing grade if you're capable of putting on your trousers yourself.

Courts have ruled that it's ok to bar people with high IQs from becoming police officers.  Yes, this is something that people have been rejected for, contested in court, and lost.
Are they also allowed to bar people with low IQs?

Yeah but they don't really need to. They don't necessarily have a minimum IQ test score, but whatever people may have to say about it's curriculum, police officers do have to pass through training and aptitude tests (though the classic image of a police academy isn't the norm anymore IIRC) and if you can't pass training, or you do manage to pass but still end up looking like a dumbass to the recruiter they won't hire you.

Not calling you out here, but what the what?

Do you have a link to a story, or something I can search for to find out more about this? It sounds absurd.

Not SG, but...

Their reasoning, I believe, was that he was overqualified and likely wouldn't stay on the job. On paper, at least, they didn't hire him because they didn't want to risk going through the expense of training someone who won't stick around.

It may well be Jobseeker Support bothering him. Unemployment benefits generally hinge on actively searching for a job, ostensibly so people don't just live on it forever. Not that unemployment benefits are by any means livable, mind you.

May as well lock 'er up now.
Preemptive strike?

We can't truly be safe until we nuke everything except the DPRK thread and the announcements board.

There are already people saying that they're letting her off because Obama told them to fuck off. Anyway, if we're quoting it, I think this one was interesting as well:

Quote
To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions. But that is not what we are deciding now.

Source. The fourth to last paragraph. They seem to be saying that administrative sanctions would be appropriate (if she wasn't at the top and was still SoS), but that isn't the FBI's job.

Oh god here it is, my anathema in thread form
So coming here makes you...what? A masochist?

He's merely a closeted patriot unwilling to acknowledge his identity because of social pressure.

Huh, I didn't realize there were more bisexuals than homosexuals out there.

This is a pretty hostile thread environment. I think that I'll have to start putting .50 and MPAT in the air.

Everyone knows air superiority is the deciding factor in modern warfare

like what are you even trying to do

I once ran a fort in Deon's old Fallout mod where I tried to give everyone's apartment and most public facilities a well, and a separate water system for the "public restrooms." For extra fun I did irrigation runs for farms every winter. It made the game a lot more difficult, but I learned quite a bit about how fluids work. It's probably not as useful as what others have suggested but it might be fun.

...Can pops revolt? I have yet to feel even the slightest hint of revolution from any of mine, through multiple playthroughs.

You generally have to bait them into it, unfortunately.

Zika is so passe.  Too close to home.  We need more doom-mongering, something really flashy.  How 'bout this: Sun goes completely blank - new ice age just around the corner.

Maybe this and global warming will just kinda cancel each other out.

Poland stands with the UK, wants them back in EU. Poland very strongly opposes EU federalism but benefits greatly from the economic cooperation it fosters, so with the UK gone they've pretty much got to choose between being sucked into the "ever closer union" against their wishes and losing easy access to the European market the Polish economy depends on.

Being Poland truly is suffering.

I hate to just link a search results page, but look through these results to find what you're after. I see some promising looking titles, but I know next to nothing about the reputations of journals in the social sciences.
