So I was messing with some mods trying to fix an annoying sound issue regarding one of them and it seems I've done something and cannot load my save file anymore, as I get met with this fatal error message "Missing Sound Definition: MINOR_POSITIVE_ALERT" each time loading reaches the 'sorting sounds' stage. I've tried to put things back to how they were, but this error persists. What is the cause of this error? I really didn't do anything other than uninstall/reinstall some mods.

Hi, I'm wondering how to actually make use of high value furniture and artifacts to generate happy thoughts for dwarves. I put an artifact statue in my dining room / tavern and a 2000+ valued encrusted masterwork door as the entrance to my food stockpile, but I don't seem to be getting a single happy thought from these things, and it's been months. Instead I see thoughts such as "pleasure near his own fine Door", or "pleasure near a fine Seat", which aren't even masterwork. I have heard that you should put high value furniture in high traffic areas but this doesn't seem to be working at all. Not sure why they aren't taking any notice whatsoever of these super luxurious items and instead are appreciating random well-crafted chairs.

DF Gameplay Questions / Military not properly equipping gear
« on: September 16, 2023, 09:59:46 am »
:'( I'm currently experiencing an issue where my military squad won't put on all the gear that is assigned and available to them. Which in this case is a very minimalistic set of individually chosen weapons, armor, and leggings. As you can see from this screenshot, most of them are properly geared, but there are always several that don't seem to find what they need. My stocks have more than enough equipment, so I don't understand why they can't find it. And what's with the yellow icons? They seem to stay yellow, too.

I've tried disbanding / recreating the squad, toggling wear over / replace civilian clothes, changing the settings of the uniform, and clicking that "update equipment" button whenever it was available to be clicked (what does this button do exactly?), to no effect. The squad always seems to get their equipment into some configuration of not-all-there, with a mix of red and yellow icons. I've also tried putting armor stands and weapon racks in their barracks, but they don't even seem to use them. Am I missing something here or is this some sort of bug?

Note: If you are not currently an active player of Escape from Motel Hell 3, please refrain from posting in this thread! Use the Community or General threads instead, as this one should be reserved for player IC posting only.

Escape from Motel Hell 3: Player Thread

Welcome! This is the player side of the experimental players versus community roleplaying game Escape from Motel Hell 3. This thread is where players will be writing their IC actions and posts. For OOC discussion, please use the General thread instead. Regarding IC posting, feel free to write your characters' actions and posts to your liking. Actions may come with a dice roll, which will by default be processed using a system similar to RTD. Modifiers may be applied to the rolls, based on relevant character attributes. If you have any questions regarding anything, for myself or for the community, feel free to raise them in the General thread.

The community has set things up and we are ready to begin, so let us commence with the first turn!

Turn 1B [Player Phase]

A group of strangers wake up in a dark, eerie basement, illuminated by a ring of red and black candles surrounding them. None of them remember how exactly they got there, their recent memories an obscure haze. The scented candles emit the distinct aroma of something wrong, as under their dim flickering glow, painted lines forming a cryptic circular diagram can be seen occupying the floor, vaguely occult in appearance.

As members of the group of eight gradually regain their faculties, several of them begin to discern jarringly familiar faces within their midst. Prince Zopyrus, Sora Norimoto, and Fienna Irabel Raeve find themselves in the company of seemingly identical twins of themselves, looking back at them in similar bewilderment and confusion. Meanwhile, Gunther of Gunthorpe and Mephi Gray share certain resemblances as well, though it's nothing compared to that of the other pairs, who appear indistinguishable down to the smallest detail.

While Zopyrus and Sora's twins seem to be acting much like their counterparts and in relative harmony with the group, Fienna's twin seems notably unfriendly. The mage's eyes dart with hostility and distrust among her unfamiliar cohorts, not excluding Fienna herself, whom she gives a particularly unsettled glare, before starting to distance herself from the group.

Upon closer examination of the surroundings, the room doesn't appear to have any apparent exits. In a corner, a stack of cardboard boxes can be seen, with labels on them that say 'emergency supplies', 'rations', 'first aid', 'blankets', 'tools', and the like. Underneath the boxes, the floorboards look somewhat darkened and dilapidated, showing signs of wear and rot. Meanwhile on the other side of the room, a pile of splintered and broken furniture sits in the dark, its ominous shadows flickering in the candlelight.

What sort of place this is, and what forces have brought them here, they can only guess.

Note: If you are currently an active player of Escape from Motel Hell 3, you should NOT be here! This thread is reserved for the community (everyone other than active players) in planning and GMing the game. If you are a player and have any questions or comments about the game, please use the general thread instead.

Escape from Motel Hell 3: Community Thread

Welcome! This is the community side of the experimental players versus community roleplaying game Escape from Motel Hell 3. You can find the general thread here. In this thread, the community, which includes anyone who is not currently an active player in the game, can make suggestions of any kind to direct and influence the game. This can range from introducing/controlling NPCs, implementing systems, activating events, helping or hindering players, and pretty much anything you want! The only thing you won't be able to do is control player characters directly, as this power belongs only to the players themselves. I as the narrator will be implementing your suggestions turn by turn, updating both this thread and the player thread (soon to be created). The players will then get to react and submit their own actions (which I as the narrator may resolve using a system similar to RTD), continuing the story.

Please use this thread for making and discussing all official suggestions for the game, and use the general thread for anything else. Remember that players shouldn't be privy to what is happening in this thread, so this is the place to discuss and plan whatever surprises you have in store for them. In the case of conflicting suggestions between multiple community users, the result may be decided by a roll, or by feedback from other community users. Similarly, hostile actions taken against player characters may also come with a roll and/or be met with a counter-roll from the player. These rules are however malleable, and if the community as a whole decides to alter them, that is then to be discussed. The only rule that should remain fixed is the one maintaining player characters' free will. Other than that, the fates of the player characters are in your hands~

And so, since the players have already created their characters, let the game officially begin!

Turn 1A [Community Side]

The player characters (PCs) have been gathered in a dark non-descript basement with no apparent exits, lulled to sleep by magical means. They will be waking up shortly. Meanwhile, feel free to begin shaping the game as you like. Following your suggestions this turn, the PCs will be waking up. You can find more information on the PCs in the general thread. Have fun!~

Escape from Motel Hell 3

Welcome! This is an experimental roleplaying game that will utilize a players versus community format. This means that the game will largely be governed by the community, rather than a single GM. I myself will be acting as the narrator, using text and images to describe the ongoing story. Player actions may also be resolved by the narrator, using a system similar to RTD. As for the community’s input, it will be very much open to all kinds of possibilities, and anyone (other than currently active players) will be free to make whatever suggestions they like to the game.

So, without further ado, player registration begins! To sign up, choose a name, a character image, and distribute attribute points to your liking. Optionally, feel free to provide any additional info for your character.

Name: (Your character's name)
Image: (Your character's appearance; Rows A or B, Columns 1-10. If you would like modifications or something custom, let me know what you would like and I can do my best to recreate the character in this style)

20 attribute points to spend: (Maximum of 8 in any one category. These may impact the effectiveness of your characters' actions)

Strength - Character’s physical power
Agility - Character’s nimbleness and dexterity
Intelligence - Character’s reasoning and memory
Wisdom - Character’s perception and insight
Charisma - Character’s force of personality

Additional info: (Optional)

Once we have enough player signups (looking for 5), I will be opening up the Community thread, and the game can officially start!

Roll To Dodge / The Frozen Abyss [Turn 3]
« on: May 08, 2023, 07:16:28 pm »
The world you know is a cold, dark, misty realm of perils and perplexities. Ruthless steel and savage sorcery are the arbiters of fate, and chaos is ever-victorious. Yet haplessly you strive to survive - out of necessity, out of fear, out of some misguided hope that things could be different. A fool's fantasy, for under the towering shadow of the dark horse of destiny, few if any may carve out their silhouettes beyond the grim frost.

Note: This will be a very harsh and unforgiving RTD. With poor luck, things will go very wrong very quickly.

Character Creation: The setting is dark medieval fantasy, so a character along those lines would be ideal. A name and a description are essential, anything else optional.

So I've got a bedroom complex with lots of small rooms, 1x1 entrances, hallways, etc, and I'd like to build flooring beneath it all. However I'm finding it to be a lot of effort to designate the entire area for floor installation, since I can't drag over the whole area as it says "blocked at this location" due to the walls and stuff, so I have to go click every odd piece of the area and select materials for it each time. It would be so much easier if I could just drag across the whole area and it would build the floors over whichever tiles are available while ignoring the walls and such (like it is for certain other build functions, like dirt roads). So yeah I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this?

DF Gameplay Questions / [Steam] Toggle stockpile doesn't seem to work?
« on: January 18, 2023, 06:16:35 pm »
I have a stockpile that's linked to take items from a specific workshop, and I have the "Toggle whether the stockpile can take items from anywhere or only from specific workshops and stockpiles" option activated (green). However, the stockpile still continues to fill up with random stuff from other places. Am I misunderstanding something about this toggle stockpile option? Isn't it only supposed to be taking stuff that's coming out of the linked workshop and nowhere else?

12
I am trying to encrust some of my finished goods with gems, but I keep getting this task cancellation message: "Cancels Encrust finished goods with cut gems: Needs improvable finished good item in linked stockpile"

I currently have a stockpile with masterwork finished goods, a stockpile with gems, and a jeweler's workshop that is linked to take materials from these two stockpiles. Both stockpiles have plenty of the proper items inside. I don't see anything wrong with this setup... so why am I getting this message? Have tried removing all links and re-linking, but keep getting this message.

Crisis Game

The pangs of headache hit you as a bright devillish white light fades into awareness. You find yourself in a large non-descript facility, dressed in clothes as blank as the sterile walls around you. It seems you are not alone in your disorientation, as you find yourself in a group of strangers with similar attire. Surrounding you all is a group of masked figures, their dark suits contrasting with the surroundings. Dark in demeanor as well, something tells you the batons and tazers hanging from their belts aren't just for show.

One of the masked people soon steps towards you.

"Hello, and welcome." His voice is encrypted, cold and authoritative. "You all have been selected to be the contestants of this entertainment event known as the Crisis Game."

There is some confused chatter among your group as the masked man continues. "For the duration of the event, you will remain within the confines of this facility, and may not leave until we deem that you have won your freedom." The confused chatter grows a bit in intensity, while the other masked arbiters stand guard stoicly, covering any potential exits to the large interior.

"The rules are simple. In your pant pockets you will find five gold tokens. Should you collect twenty-five gold tokens for yourself, you will be granted your freedom," the frigid voice continues. Checking your pockets, you can indeed find five gold coins there, each etched with the unique symbol of a wing.

"We will play a series of games in order to determine the winners of the event. In addition to winning, we will also award you $100,000 for your successful participation, as well as immunity from being selected for another event in the future - at your discretion, of course." And with that, the masked representative makes a slight bow. "Again, we welcome you to the Crisis Game. If you have any questions, do feel free to ask. Otherwise, we will begin the games shortly."

There are ten among your group, including: a homeless man whose ratty hair looks incongruous with the clean featureless clothes he's been dressed in; a massive hulk of a man whose 8 foot stature towers above everyone else including the masked figures; a disheveled man who in such attire looks almost like a participant in some experimental drug study; a short blonde man who seems to give off some kind of unnatural aura; and a young kid of twelve years who definitely looks like he ended up in the wrong place.

Additionally in the group, there is also: a middle aged man with a mustache who looks as anxious as he is enraged; a clean-shaven man with slick hair, sharp features and a calculating gaze; a middle aged woman with medium-short dark hair looking on with noticeable worry; a young woman with long auburn hair who's looking like she wants to strangle the masked representative and all his cohorts; and a bald older man with a stubbly chin looking soberly concerned.

The group looks among themselves and the masked figures, uncertain what to do...

((The game has begun! Feel free to interact and do whatever you like, and bold your actions if you would like it to be treated like an RTD action, though some actions may not come with a roll))

The Crisis Game

You wake up in an unfamiliar facility with a group of strangers. All of you are wearing plain white clothes, in contrast to the dark suits and masks donned by your apparent abductors. Disarmed and disoriented, you are at their mercy. What sort of twisted games will you be subjected to, and how far will you go to try to win the freedom promised to you by these mysterious tyrants?

Hi there! This is a new roleplaying game idea I'd like to try out. Essentially the concept is, each player plays as a character who has been abducted by a cryptic organization who forces them to play sinister "games" against each other, often to the dire misfortune of the losers of the games. Player characters will have free action throughout the RP, so they are not entirely forced to do anything, however the arbiters will likely not take kindly to any sort of disobedience.

Overall this will play a bit like an RTD, where your character's actions may come with a roll to determine how successful they are. Sometimes there won't be a roll, such as when your character chooses to comply with the arbiters in doing something that doesn't require a roll, or when doing simple actions like dialogue, etc. As for how the game will end, that will be up to your characters, their choices, and luck. As a fair warning, it will be likely that many (potentially all) player characters will perish and/or have unfavorable endings as the RP continues, so keep that in mind when registering your character.

That's about it for the premise of the game. If you're interested, please submit a character sheet with the following format:

Code: [Select]
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Description:
Misc info: (optional)

Note that your characters will not have any items on them, as they have already been stripped of personal belongings during the abduction / orientation process.

As for the setting and what type of character is permitted, it would be ideal to keep it to something resembling modern reality. So humans would be great, but light fantasy/sci-fi elements are okay. Something like a sentient black hole or the God of Clouds would be quite a bit too surreal. And for power levels, your character shouldn't be much more powerful than a regular human being, although mild special capabilities may be permitted as long as it's within reason. Not really looking for the group to be a full on X-Men squad.

That's pretty much everything. Let me know if you have any questions, otherwise, feel free to register! It probably won't be a very long game, but we'll have to see. Looking for at least 5 players before we start, but the more the merrier!

One World (SG)

In this suggestion game, each chapter will feature a different main character existing in the same world, chosen by players. Additionally, players can control not only the main character but also other characters in the game, as well as create events/situations and suggest pretty much anything they like.

This will likely be a long-term project for me and updates may be slow/sporadic at times.

Who will be the main character for the first chapter?

Description/Bio:
