Forum Games and Roleplaying / Clone Room B (8/8+)
« on: March 17, 2016, 01:54:43 am »
Clone Room B:

Hiya! This is a new take on a game I hosted a while back. It kinda resembles mafia, although somewhat less so with the new changes. Regardless, it is a game of information and deception.

Premise:
During an experimental mishap, a troubled Hero has accidentally created a large number of evil Clones that all look like his/her Lover. In order to bring the universe back into balance, the Hero must find the real Lover among the Clones and dispose of the rest before they are able to break out of containment and take over the world.

Required players: 8+
> One player is the Hero.
> One player is the Lover.
> One player is a Friend.
> Five+ players are Clones.
> Among the Clones, one player is a Copy.
> Among the Clones, one player is an Impersonator.
> Among the Clones, one player is an ANDROID.

Gameplay:
> Before the game starts, the host PMs each player their role.
> The host then reveals the Hero's identity to everyone in-thread, and the game begins.
> When the Hero is ready, s/he proceeds to pick one player who s/he thinks is the Lover.
> When a player is picked, that player wins the game, and his/her role is revealed.
> If the picked player is the Lover, the Hero team wins the game and all remaining Clones lose the game.
> If the picked player is not the Lover, the next turn begins.
> The Hero gets X picks depending on the total number of players (2 picks at 8 players).
> If the Hero runs out of picks, the Hero team loses the game, and all remaining Clones win the game.

Role Info:
> Each non-Hero player starts the game knowing the role of another random non-Hero player.
> The Lover is on the Hero team, and is trying to get picked by the Hero.
> The Friend is on the Hero team, and each turn, the Friend may choose to investigate a target player, learning their role through PM the next turn.
> The Clone is a villain whose goal is to get picked by the Hero before the Lover is picked. Clones also win the game when the Hero runs out of picks.
> The Copy is a Clone who, when picked by the Hero, causes the Hero to lose an additional pick.
> The Impersonator is a Clone who appears to be the Lover, even when investigated by the Friend.
> The ANDROID is a Clone who loses the game when picked by the Hero, also granting the Hero two additional picks.

Victory/Defeat:
> The Hero team wins the game if the Hero picks the Lover. All remaining Clones lose the game.
> If the Hero does not pick the Lover before s/he is out of picks, the Hero team loses the game, and all remaining Clones win the game.
> By default, players who are picked by the Hero win the game.

Regulatory Rules:
> No communicating about the current game outside of the game thread.
> No "secret handshake" types of communication, in-thread or anywhere else. This includes things like posting screenshots or using external means as "proof" of something.
> It's possible to cheat... please don't. Remember that this is a game, and the point of games is to have fun!
> Turns can last however long it takes the Hero and other action roles to make decisions, but shouldn't exceed 48 hours.
> Players who have won or lost the current game before it has ended may post one final time in the thread before the game ends. After that, they are not allowed to post again until the game ends.

Minority Rule X: Apocalypse Pandora

A crumbling world ruled by an apocalyptic dragon that feasts on all things, its unrelenting hunger driving it towards places where prey is most numerous. The only escape is through an other-world portal that will only allow a maximum of X creatures to enter.

This is a PvP game of simple decision-making and chance. Players start with 100 HP. When a player has 0 or less HP, s/he is eliminated. Each round, players pick an Item out of a randomly selected pool of Items. At the end of the round, players that picked the Item(s) with the most picks are attacked by the Apocalypse Dragon, taking 50 HP damage. The game ends when, at the end of a round, X or fewer players remain, at which point those players win. X will either be 2 or 25% of starting players, whichever is the greater number. Additionally, Items that are picked typically have effects that trigger before the Dragon attacks.

Each player starts with a Basic Status of their choice (see below for what each Status does). Players may gain new Statuses from various events such as picking Items. If a player gains a Status s/he already has, nothing happens. Statuses may have effects that trigger at the start of each round, after picking is complete. There is no limit to the number of Statuses a player may have.

Anatomy of a round:
Quote
1. Round start: Players pick Items out of a randomly assembled Item Pool.
2. Player Statuses trigger simultaneously.
3. Items in the Item Pool trigger simultaneously.
4. The Apocalypse Dragon attacks players who picked majority Items.
5. Round end: if only X players remain, those players win the game. Otherwise, next round starts.

(Note: To avoid confusion with rules, I'll always have the updated rules and lists in this post and the one below. When participating in a current round, ignore rules and postings from previous games, as they are probably outdated.)

Roles revealed at end.

Minority Rule 3.0

Hello all! Minority Rule is a survival game, originally inspired by a manga called Liar Game. (If you played in any of the previous games, the biggest change is that Hero status is completely different from before.)

The rules are simple. At the start of a round, the host presents a pool of Items for players to select from. Each player picks an Item by PMing the host. At the end of the round, the picks are tallied. The players that voted for the Item with the most picks are eliminated. If there's a tie for most picked, all players who voted for the tied Items are eliminated. The number of Items in Item Pools will always be fewer than the number of remaining players. Additionally, each Item is unique and may result in other events happening, such as players gaining statuses (see below). By default, the game continues until there are 2 or fewer players left, at which point those players win.

Play With Your Buddies / Let's play StarCraft: Brood War!
« on: June 05, 2014, 03:31:06 am »
Hi... first time hosting one of these. Seems like fun!

For people who don't know the game, StarCraft is a classic real-time strategy game about futuristic alien wars and stuff. Each player starts out with a base and some harvesters. To win, we must destroy all of the enemies' structures.
We'll be playing as one player; you guys issue the commands and I carry them out in real time. There will be lots of saving and loading.

As for the game mode, there are a few we could go with:

1v7 Melee - We'll face off against 7 computers, all of them allied against us. We're probably going to lose, but it should be interesting.
2v6 Melee - Same as above, except we get a bot ally to lose with us.
1v7 FFA - Us and 7 computers face off in a free-for-all.
Other - Feel free to suggest if you are familiar with the game.

So, to get started:

1. Which mode are we going with?
2. What will be our race - Terran, Zerg, Protoss, or Random?
3. Any preferred races for computer players? If not, they'll all be Random.

Scrabble Poker Tournament

2-13 player PvP FFA "hand-making" chance game.

This game uses a standard scrabble set:

Quote
2 blank tiles (scoring 0 points)
1 point: E ×12, A ×9, I ×9, O ×8, N ×6, R ×6, T ×6, L ×4, S ×4, U ×4
2 points: D ×4, G ×3
3 points: B ×2, C ×2, M ×2, P ×2
4 points: F ×2, H ×2, V ×2, W ×2, Y ×2
5 points: K ×1
8 points: J ×1, X ×1
10 points: Q ×1, Z ×1

Total of 100 tiles.

Each player is dealt 7 random tiles. Players will use these to form a 1-tile hand, a 2-tile hand, and a 4-tile hand and PM me their choices.
A board of 4 community tiles will then be revealed across the middle. All players can use these tiles to form words with their hands.
Each hand may form a different word with the board.
For each hand type (1, 2, or 4 tiles), the word worth the highest number of points wins the hand. I'll be using http://wordfinder.yourdictionary.com/ to find/determine the worthiest words for each hand.
Split pots are possible if words are tied.

For the 1-tile hands, each player puts out an ante of $1.
For the 2-tile hands, each player puts out an ante of $2.
For the 4-tile hands, each player puts out an ante of $4.

As time goes on, the antes will rise.

Players buy-in with a stack of $100. When your stack reaches $0, you're eliminated. Game continues until someone wins.
The payout matrix will be determined after players have registered and the tournament is ready to begin.

Minority Rule

Hi all! Minority Rule is a game of logic and chance, originally inspired by the manga Liar Game. The objective is to be the last one or two players alive.

After registration, rounds will begin. Each round, the host will provide a random pool of Items to choose from. A total list of all possible Items is located below. Each player will privately pick an Item (through PM) from the provided Item pool, and at the end of the round, picks will be tallied. Players who picked the Item with the most number of picks are eliminated. In addition to this main rule, Items have other conditions that may result in elimination, so it's important to choose wisely. The number of Items in the pool will always be approximately two-thirds * the number of players remaining. Also, if two Items are tied for most picked (after relevant Item effects have finished triggering), all players who picked the tied items are eliminated.

As the game progresses, players may acquire different status effects, indicated by the colors of their names. Status effects stack with each other.
  • Blue: The player is a Hero for this round, allowing the player to pick any Item in the game, regardless of whether it is in that round's pool of Items. A player cannot remain a Hero for more than 1 turn.
  • Purple: The player is a Zombie. Zombies count as eliminated players and cannot win the game, but may continue to pick Items until they are eliminated. If two or fewer remaining players are non-Zombies, they win the game.
  • Teal: The player is Bonded with other players. If all players eligible to win are Bonded, those players win the game.

Minority Rule 2.0

Helloes all! This is a game I've hosted before on other forums, tweaked for a new and hopefully improved experience. Minority Rule is a game of logic and chance. The objective is to be the last one or two players standing.

After registration, rounds will begin. Each round, the host will provide a random pool of Items to choose from. A total list of all possible Items is located below. Each player will privately pick an Item (through PM) from the provided Item pool, and at the end of the round, picks will be tallied. All players who picked the Item with the most number of picks are eliminated, hence the name Minority Rule. In addition to this main rule, Items have other conditions that may result in elimination, so it's important to choose wisely. The number of Items in the pool will always be fewer than the number of players remaining, as to guarantee eliminations every round. For example, if there are 8 players remaining, there will only be 3-5 Items in the pool to pick from. Also, if two Items are tied for most picks (after Item effects have finished triggering), all players who picked the tied items are eliminated!

At the start of each round, players may be announced Hero status from the results of previous rounds. Hero status lasts for that round, and allows the player to pick any Item in the game, regardless of whether it is in that round's pool of Items. A player cannot remain a Hero for more than 1 turn.

Preliminary list of possible Items:

Found this game in another forum, thought it was rather neat.

I start with a word, next poster posts a word that has nothing to do with the previous word, and so on.

First word will be... Night.
