Would it be possible to ask for a report of sorts on the current soldiers serving in the military?

Because if the elves can cage wolves, anyone can bludgeon them with their own body parts. Seriously though, it's probably the same reason you can kill a duck without a problem. It doesn't have a predisposition to combat skills (such as megabeasts), but since it's hostile, it approaches you and proceeds to die.

I was looking over the legends, and I noticed that most temples are razed by the very civilization that created them. It's usually along the lines of:
In 157,The Axes of Violence created The Axe Temple in the Hills of Whatever
In 158, The Violent Creed was created in the Axe temple
In 158, the dwarf Urist McViolence ruled The Violent Creed from The Axe Temple in The Hills of Whatever
(several entries of shit being stolen by kobolds)
In 170, The Axes of Violence razed The Axe Temple

y dis hapen?

I'll definitely think about those!  :)

I'd also like to ask if a soldier with experience and a bit of influence could suggest a guild of sorts? Like a guild of fighters (I'd imagine they'd be in the same squad?) dedicated to the full time protection of the fort, with a certain code/ethics of combat? I don't have anything in mind, it just seems like an interesting concept.

Will the squad I'm being put into have an active captain? I mean, if I'm a full time soldier yet. I checked the player list and I have +0 influence, and I read that full time soldiers gain +2 influence, so I'm guessing I haven't been enlisted yet.

I think the only differences between bows and arrows are the skills it takes to use melee with them. Bows use the sword skill during melee while crossbows use the axe or hammer skill (I'm not so sure about the crossbow). I could be wrong, though.

I've felt so.. out of touch recently. My eyes and those of my brethren have seen what no other should see, the merciless slaughtering of our people due to our lack of a more than capable military. I may have been drafted into an arising conflict, but I want to take it upon myself to protect my comrades from that escalating heat of combat. I wish to become a soldier of my people.

sorry I haven't participated, I was a little busy with a sudden influx of school work. I'm better off now and will be keeping up with the thread. about the above, I guess I'd like to be full time soldier of the fortress, but I'm not too familiar if it's that simple.

real shame it's gonna have to be delayed  :(

when you do get your laptop up and running, could you post the personalities/descriptions of your two soldiers? I guess I'd like to be ham'd (terrible new word for being dorfed as a human) as one

I'm surprised no one had asked to have a dwarf named after them yet
it would be nice if you could salvage this though
"ugh, I had a horrible dream that our embark wagon was flung into an island, and all of us fell to Nil's axe once she was told we had no booze left... wait... are we in the air?"

Take every single barrel that contains plump helmet spawn and cook all of it into lavish meals.

WWUD with a gunpowder industry?

oh man, me and the mrs have really gotten to work on keeping the bloodline alive  :o

Dear Urist

Next time you see one of the militia captains bleeding out on a cavern floor, please feel free to take him to a designated hospital instead of running to get the other guy's socks of his corpse.

Sincerely, your Overseer.

P.S.

alright then! make me a dwarf  :D

Mr.Mountain shall be the name
Gender: Male
Preferred Occupation: Hunter
Worships: Thor & Odin Dasel, Govos the Waxy Wings, & Othud Worthmoral the Peaceful-trust of Bravery
Like/Dislikes: (do I go with the usual dwarf stuff here or something different?)
BG: He lost his parents at the age of early manhood, 17, which motivated him to take up crossbow and hunt the giant lion that took them from him. He decided to go on an adventure in order to find the bastard, but this was in vain, as the beast was clearly either dead or long gone. To make up for his impotence, he feels it is his obligation to hunt the largest beasts he can find.

I guess that's about it, I don't see him wanting any relatives or such. let me know if there's anything I need to add or fix!

I just finished playing one of my fortresses, and I remember the first enemy that showed up at my fort. It was a weremonitor-lizard, with dark brown scales that were set wide apart. He interrupted one of my fishers while he was fishing (I assume it was the fisher that found him in the first place, lurking in the waters of the river). The fisher backed away from the river quickly, and I already had my little militia (3 dwarves..) rushing forth to defend their home and brethren. Strangely enough, the fisher just stopped a solid 7 tiles away from the thing. They literally stared at each other for five seconds (in my head, I imagine the weremoniter-lizard slowly rising from the river while the fisher stares in horror). Anyway, after those five seconds, the weremoniter-lizard dashed at my fisher with what has to be the fastest speed I've ever seen anything move with in dwarf fortress. BUT, he just so happens to turn into peasant human form when he was just a tile away from the fisher, which is when my militia arrived (and the fisher started fleeing) and tore asunder what I soon found out to be was a human child.
