Welcome to Greenville

Hi! Welcome to Greenville, Ohio. (No, not that one. This one's to the east, near Pittsburgh. We get that a lot.) The place where absolutely, positively, not-quite-literally-but-damn-if-it-isn't-close-to nothing happens. Some say the last piece of noteworthy history that occurred here was the old mayor dying seventeen years ago, and they're totally right. Nobody in Greenville is rich, or famous, or important in any way, shape, or form. You would be more intellectually stimulated by watching paint dry than anything you would do during the hour or so it takes most people when they drive through on the way to someplace else.

Or, at least, that's what we want you to think.

The real story: crazy shit goes on here. All the time. You know what a liminal space is? One of those weird places that's right between one thing and another, like a highway rest stop? Greenville is a liminal space. The whole city. Maybe not officially, but close enough. It's right between "normal" and "a bunch of crazy shit that makes absolutely no sense". Our only problem is that the rest of the country would probably go ape if they found out that sometimes in Greenville you can just turn invisible for no reason, so we keep it a secret. All of us. Together. It's our thing, like how Concordians have being a famous battle site or New Yorkers have being fucking assholes for no reason. And it works out pretty well. Every so often we get someone who stays overnight, and they almost always get freaked out by the crazy shit and try to tell someone, but we don't worry. Nobody believes them.

Because, really, if someone came from Greenville and told you they saw an alien having a nice chat with former president Abraham Lincoln...

...after you found out which Greenville they meant, would you believe them?

Nothing Ever Happens in Greenville is my latest foray into GMing on Bay12. In essence, it's like one of the generic high-school roleplays from the Twilight Academy heyday, mixed with the plot and fantastical elements of Akroma's Occult Hobby. I've had the idea in my head for a while but never really did anything with it until now. also it's an excuse to reuse fan favorite emmett, so that's cool

[ OOC THREAD ] - -

Years ago, during the very brief height of the Caermoan Civil War, a great number of military fortresses, outposts, and keeps were abandoned as their members marched out to join the fighting. However, after the last battle was fought, there was nobody left who could - or would - return to them. So they remained, slowly moldering away... until now.

Both the Caermoan Defense Force and the Shields of Caermo have taken it upon themselves to occupy several of these forts throughout the country, although heavy bandit resistance has made taking more than this number very difficult. Upon joining the Shields, most recruits are directed to begin training wherever they joined, to ensure their fighting abilities are as good as one may say they are.

Right now, in Fort Raivo, only a few days' travel from the fringes of the Verdaani Forest, one group of new recruits has just finished the last of their orientation. They only have one last task to complete before they're ready to join the battle in full...

The leader of Fort Raivo's division, Captain Einion, stands before the members of this group - Squad Eckert was their name. Their ranks consist of a dark-haired young man, a woman astride a horse, someone wearing a full set of soldier's armor, a tanned boy with a tome, and their leader: a very incongruous young lady holding a staff.

Although the Captain was clearly getting on in years, his performance on the battlefield hasn't suffered one bit - nearly anyone could tell you that. The man is well-respected among Fort Raivo, although Squad Eckert has only ever seen him in passing. He glances briefly over the group, doing an internal headcount.

"...This is all of you, right? I wouldn't want to get things started only to find out halfway through we'd forgotten about someone."

//Bleddyn Einion, Ennis, Henry Rougemont, and Ruth are in!

Several decades have passed since the great civil war for Caermo ended, but its effects are still being felt all across the country. The ruling body is slowly getting back to its feet and dealing with the massive expenses left behind. As all hostilities have long since been settled between both parties, and Caermo's northern neighbor Lorgen remains a peaceful ally, there is no need for military in the country at this time - the gold is better spent restoring functioning order in Caermo anyway.

However, unrest prevails in central Caermo; without soldiers to protect them or the money needed to finance any semblance of a military, villages are regularly ransacked by the bandits who gleefully roam the countryside. Until, five years ago, two groups rose up to challenge them...

...The Caermoan Defense Force, started by a band of veterans from the Caermoan Civil War. Perhaps a little less virtuous than their counterpart, the Defense Force is a group of sellswords and mercenaries who dedicate themselves to eliminating bandits wherever they may be found... for a small fee. Nothing a reasonably well-off village couldn't afford, naturally.

...And the Shields of Caermo, much less wealthy than the Defense Force. In terms of arms and people they take what they can get, because they work for free - their main income is in the form of meager donations. Those truly dedicated to making Caermo a better place sign up in measure equal to people who just wanna kill bandits.

And this is where you come in: a new recruit to the Shields, eager to help your new comrades in returning the country to its former prosperity.

How many players are you accepting?
Eight. Sorry to anyone else, but I really don't want to bite off more than I can chew here. Ten lol

...Who are we again?
The first four players are new recruits to the Shields of Caermo, hoping to put down the bandit scourge in their beloved country and make upit a safe place to live in once again. The next four will be randos wanderers, travelers, or village folk who happened to be in the right place at a convenient time.

What if I wanna be in the Defense Force instead?
Leave.

For countless millenia, longer than any record of man can begin to know, the world has existed in one of two states. It is locked in an endless cycle: an Age of Fire, full of prosperity, happiness, and life, inevitably followed by an Age of Dark, wrought with destruction, madness, and death...

Though the Fire persists always, burning bright and deep, it must eventually fade away into ember. Such is the way of things. The coming of the Age of Dark is always heralded by an onset of the Darksign, the mark of Undead...

Those branded by the Darksign are forever cursed to return to life each time they die, for eternity, becoming more and more Hollow - mindless, wretched creatures devoid of any sanity. They have no purpose, no desires, no sense of self...

You are one such being. Marked by Undeath, you will one day go Hollow. It is as inevitable as the sunrise.

But, until this happens, there is a very long journey before you. . .

Forum Games and Roleplaying / ATLA Roleplay Interest Check
« on: September 18, 2015, 09:02:57 pm »
(Jeez, this has been on my mind for ages.)

The premise of this is, of course, the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. I've got the timeframe pinned to about a year or so before Aang awakens way back in Book 1, but the overall plot is a bit of a WIP. It's not going to be slice of life, unfortunately. :P

I know it'll most likely be freeform, (but quite possibly with d100 rolls to decide certain things. Maybe I'll put it up to a vote?) but the kind of freeform where we have a bit of "As X punches, Y dodges and punches X in return in the opening", "X parries the attack", etc.

So, uh. Questions? Comments? Unwanted constructive criticism?
please, for the love of god join this, i want an atla game so bad

General Discussion / Mom's Heart Walk Team Name
« on: August 01, 2015, 06:41:05 pm »
My mom is working for a hospital where they are doing organized walks for the American Heart Association and she's asked me to ask you all to provide a name for it.

To quote: "I want the epitome of the most awesome, funny name ever, but not anything morbid like "Two Strokes 'Till Midnight." (She's on to us, guys!)

So... Any ideas? :P

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Nagantu Nine RP [OOC]
« on: May 10, 2015, 03:01:14 pm »
Finally worked up the nerve to starting my own roleplay! This cannot possibly end any way but well.

So! This whole thing is set not too far in the future, in a galaxy far, far away, called Vedohntar. Being space n' stuff, there are a multitude of races that are not, in fact, shockingly human-like or even humanoid (although, for convenience, most on Nagantu are humanoid). But we can get to that stuff later.

The main characters (of which, at the start, there will be nine. I might include more later, but please don't count on it.) are all on the planet Nagantu to begin with, also for alliteration convenience and plot stuff, but you won't have to be Nagantan. Everyone should speak the Standard (or Standard Language), or has cool implants I won't explain that allow them to speak it, which is how everyone is able to arbitrarily understand one another.

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Commonly Known Races (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Custom Race Sheet (click to show/hide)

I might come up with some sort of stat system soon, but for now just post your applications.
Also, please note that while everyone is a main character, nobody, strictly speaking, has to be the good guy. Be an anti-hero! Kill people to attain your goals! Act like an absolute douche simply because you can!

I embarked with a river, and said river suddenly led to empty space; a waterfall.
"Wonder how tall it i- ohmygosh."
It's a 6 z-level drop.
Fun will surely ensue.
