It seems as if no one has the fortitude to even suggest changing the PATRIOT act or other near-transgressing-on-privacy-but-not-sortof-kindof policies while complaining about the effects of said policies. Especially not anyone in the senate.

Obama appears to have suggested to change some concrete bits of the 'drone policy,' [a nice ambiguous term that never should've been slipped into the media, it just helps obfuscate what we're talking about, and that's post-911 changes to CIA and military operational capabilities] though. I appreciate the step, even one is better than congress' none.

Especially not the senate. The act passed 98 to 1 in the Senate, the sole dissenter being Russ Fiengold

But yeah, the PATRIOT act is only moderately vile. Most of the language is pretty specific and not as open to abuse as people might think. The right-wing dystopia predicted during the Bush administration never came and since nobody innocent has been shipped off to the death camps over it yet, nobody really cares about it anymore.

Absolutely no. I've read the patriot act and it grants incredibly vague and broad powers that directly contradict the constitution. It is a gross violation of American liberty. And yes, quite a few innocent people have been shipped off to a "torture camp" in the form of Guantanamo Bay. Just because you don't care does not mean that other people don't.

And we are definitely are living in a right wing dystopia. Obama is not a liberal, he is a right wing conservative corporatist as bad as Bush.

I am with Neonivek on this. There is no excuse for sexism, no matter who is performing it or who the victim is.

You seem to not understand that women undergo sexism whether or not they act outside of their culturally historic gender roles.  That's what sexism is.  You can't win.  You can't escape it.  There's no particular way you can act such that you won't be seen as a lesser human being, lying, seductive, simultaneously too incapable and too dangerous.

The fact that men can do things that will make them less privileged does not mean that they're lacking a sweet spot.

I mostly cannot support that position because it makes racism acceptable... and as always a double standard that makes something wrong acceptable tends to perpetuate it.

When white folks were enslaved in the US by black folks for a few hundred years and then freed but undermined economically and socially, then I'll agree that they've undergone the effects of racism.  Not before.

No, I fully recognize it. Which is why I said women are more frequently and severely affected by sexism than men. But NONE of that detracts from the fact that men can and are negatively affected by a sexist culture.

I am aware, and I still find it to be a completely irrational and unsupportable position. Particularly when comparing it to black people being incapable of racism.

Men who act outside their culturally historic gender roles can and often do face similar judgement and hurdles as women who act outside of their culturally historic gender roles.

"But it can’t be sexist. Just like a black person can’t be racist. Sexism is a word with a very specific meaning, which is a certain group having more access than another group to the things that make life worth living, such as high wages and good housing."

Yea... I can not at all find this to a supportable position, and I say that as someone who strongly supports equality.

Men may be less negatively affected by sexism by both frequency and severity, but that doesn't mean they are never negatively affected by sexism.

There is also the issue that the radar reflective surface of those aircraft stops working if it gets wet, so they lose the majority of their stealth if they ever operate in poor weather.

I am pissed that the BEST virtual die roller I ever had was from OpenRPG...

I can't even get my OpenRPG working again and there is nothing that comes close

just the fact that I can write [1d6+3] and it does it... it VERY convenient. While all the others are as inconvenient as possible.

Thou hast rang?
http://dicbox.org/Dice/Roll, just put 1d6+3 in the expression field.

I'll try to finish an update tomorrow, but it might be friday.

Because Obama was getting hammered so hard for his Benghazi, leak investigation and IRS scandal, the administration of course had to concoct some news story to distract the media from the right wings totally non-hypocritical outrage. So they used their magical weather machine to murder 24 people in Oklahoma with a mile wide tornado!

I'm sure that some of the rank and file are like that, but I'm just as sure there are plenty of true believers. We should be using more precision strike weapons, but other than that their reasons don't really change anything. Once you've gone as far as to join the Taliban, the only way it ends is in death, sooner or later.
This just isn't true.  There are plenty of ex-Taliban members out there.
This would be the first time I've heard of it.
Then I suggest you do some research on the matter before continuing to debate this topic.

I am sure there are. But do they publicly declare themselves as such in Taliban held territory without facing retribution?

416
I am rapidly approaching the point of absolute political rage yet again. And it is harder than ever for me to find solace in the lesser of two evils.

417
Simply put, dealings with immoral lunatics are always wrong because it enables them to do further horrible things.

We do this all the time in America, we just call them republicans instead of terrorists. By "we" I mean people other than me. I have no qualms calling them terrorists.

418
But the Taliban isn't a religion, and leaving it is not considered to be leaving Islam.
Not according to the Taliban. They consider their brand of militant Islam to be the one true Islam, giving up the fight and going to a non-militant form of Islam would be just as much of a crime in their eyes.

419
Simple logic could've brought it to your attention before this.

Reality doesn't have faceless mooks.
Extreme religious cults do not tend to have a high defection rate, especially not undeveloped regions. I figured the Taliban would kill anybody who tried to leave on top of that, leaving ex-members a severe minority.

Apostasy is a crime punishable by death even in what we normally consider to be moderate Islamic countries.

I am really getting tired of seeing the "Lets lie to people and not fill them in on information they have every right to for their own protection" plotlines.

They are REALLY getting annoying.

No it isn't right to delude a populous for their own good... and even if you don't believe me, at least attempt to address the ambiguity.

Welcome to the real world. Or were you talking about fiction? Because the real world is pretty damn distopian.
