Is everyone a vampire?

17
Could someone tell me how to uncompress the Steelhold file? I've been having trouble doing it.

18
I'm busy tonight so I won't start today by the way so please wait about 20 hours until I update as I'll need some time to play it and write up the update tomorrow.

19
Sorry, I've been busy over the last few days in real life and distracted by disaster after another on my personal fortress Boltspire. I'm back and should start my turn tomorrow afternoon (I live in England).

Dairy of Alatha Zane
My grandfather, Rhaken the Willful and the entire military are dead. While my grandfather has taught me much and left me his memoirs, he taught me little of his combat prowess. I will hide in the shadows until the demons threat is over and their servant Oku is vanquished. Yet I recently received an interesting letter from someone called Karius meant for my late grandfather. Perhaps he'll be of aid once he arrives like he said he would in the letter.

Also Lorius' spirit will have go onto dwarven heaven by now.

I had to see to see Rhaken's death for myself. When I did, I couldn't let those unnatural monsters into the fortress. Yet I fell to earlier. It was only when they struck me down, that my masters, Armok and the old Gods, explained that did not wish to lose their loyal and faithful servant to their would-be usurpers. Not while the servant the new gods still walked within Steelhold. So they place me to one side, slowly healing me until I was barely fit enough to make my way back to Steelhold. I made a painful grimace as I looked at the stunned faces of the first of my followers to find me. Then it went black.

OOC: Lorius survived due to the old Gods not wishing to lose their servant to their new rivals. Plus this would explain why it took so long for Lorius to return to Steelhold.

Nope. Grandfather clauses state that if you die, you are dead. Sorry 'bout that, but you'll have to get dorf'd with a different character.

Okay. That part wasn't there last time I looked or I just overlooked it by mistake. I like to redwarf as Karius Durtis, one of Lorius apprentices who will come with the next caravan after receiving a hefty message from Lorius. He'll be more jolly, a tad less gloomy as well as faithful, through encountering Oku will make him more loyal to the old Gods. He'll strike up a friendship with Lorius' granddaughter and final apprentice,  Alatha Zane.

So my plan should work of wearing down the demons should work and if enough survive to cause trouble, I can just pull back underground and wait it out.

Found my eldest son's daughter, Alatha Zane, here in Steelhold the other day? What in the name of Armok is she doing amongst these criminals and scum? Still, she seems like the good lass my son raised. And she willing to learn from me. I guess it's important to start passing on my knowledge now that I'm getting old. And an already experience criminal often make for good spies. Plus she follows the old gods like myself.

I give the following note to Rhaken:
I suppose you know who I am by now.  Please keep Lorius from stabbing me when I set up my room next to him.

May I sig this?

You'd better not do this to Steelhold.

Nah, that would kill the story and I really like a good story. This is purely because my best fort needs a new challenge.

Setting up levers to cause the cave-ins were plan A. How effective would the Hell Defence Force be? Same with sieges and caravans? What about thirty marksdwarves in iron armour with metal bolts, seven melee legendaries in steel armour and weapons, ten vets and ten rookies with iron armour and weapons vs flying demons?

28
Lorius wouldn't mind it since it would cause trouble amongst his foes.

I've tried looking on other threads, but I failed to find the answers I'm looking for. I'm planning to unleash hell for the first time. I've planning a few cave-in traps with two levels dropping into the route from hell to the surface (I'm going to cut it off from my main fortress). Once those have activated via pressure pads, I dug out a small arena. On the side leading to the surface are going to be a couple of cages containing my siege prisoners and cavern prisoners respectively. Once a pressure pad on the other side of the room unleashed them, I'm hoping that my Hell Defence Force will kill a few demons. Then my fortress, Boltspire, will lock down and become self-sufficient (which it already is, stuff from the traders are luxuries). Any surviving flying demons will hopeful by dealt with by my respectable military. If my military fails to deal with any fliers, I'll cut off the surface and courtyard, bebuild my diminished populace with children, turn Boltspire into new Sparta without all the fatalities and maimings, engrave slabs for the dead to stop any ghosts. My fortress will wait in out for years will the demons are slowly destroyed by sieges, ambushes and caravans. What do more experienced players think of my plan? Any ways to improve it will remaining morally okay for my dwarves? I like to look after my dwarves. Anyone else, however, is fair game. Especially hostiles.

I'm certain its Fractal is back. Especially now that he's revealed himself to Rhaken. Especially since he wants to move into the room next to me. Oh well. I can't, however, decided who I'm more impressed with. Fractal for setting up his spy-ring of children or the children for been as good as they are. Still no match for an old master like me or Rhaken mind you. The children seem to be following the old gods rather than Oku's demons, but are still loyal to Fractal overall. What worries me most is the letter sent to the Queen by Corley. While our new leader has shown himself sane and sensible, especially in his feelings towards Oku and her cult, I covertly bribed the messenger to allow me to read it. While I am pleased to have slain many of the green-skinned invanders, which had the effect of making my following even larger. Still having the seen knowing that one of her mother's most successful foes and a wanted criminal who has avoid capture for over seventy decades. I barely imagine what she, her advisers and her new, incompetent spy network are going think of a wanted and very dangerous criminal, having yet ot be captured, is doing in the penal colony full of other criminals. Will they think that I'll was captured and place there with everyone else or that I came to prison of my free will. How they'll respond is another matter and much more worrying.
