The Black Knight of Monty Python and the Holy Grail comes to mind.

« on: August 09, 2008, 04:59:48 am »Speaking of alpha strike, has anyone ever managed to overload their reactor by using one in a Mechwarrior game?
That would be why my warning. I not only overlheated the reactor, it turned into fusion plasma, melted straight through my mech's chassi and detonated in a lovely mushroom cloud between the mech's legs. Making a tiny glass crater with some charred metal chunks in it.
addendum: Normal overheating only has the back of your mech's chassi blow out in a crescent flame while the whole thing topples.

DF General Discussion / Re: Toady is god

I've always viewed Toady as the Creator, rather than a entity up for casual worship. But I read a lot of Terry Pratchett* so my views on religion** is a bit befuddled.

Stay away from the alpha strike button if you have more than six LRM20 arrays on board.

"Mynd yu, X-com zömbies are pretti nastii."
Terror of the Deep zombies were even worse thou.
Very nastii, I dreaded every encounter. In most modern "Zombie" games they draw inspiration from the movies and as cool as a shambling -wall- of mindless flesheating dirt nappers are, the fear factor sort of goes numb after a while, and your mind sort of labels them as a sort of thick organic mist with teeth.
Edit: I apologize for the horrendous punctuation and grammar of this post, it's past my bed time.
addendum: But not enough for me to actually fix it.
But that could just be me playing too long. Which reminds me, Anyone else found a strange subway sandwich?

No, but they appear to have retained just enough semblance of hand-eye coordination to operate tanks. But generally they just try to stop the mech by throwing their putrid carcasses into the leg motivators.
Didn't really get that survival horror feeling I so crave from this sort of thing. AvP was very good at that, especially when I suddenly heard the telltale skittering of a facehugger and the base computer cheerfully announces that I have 40 seconds to get to the life-boats before I become part of the great roman candle in the sky...
Ah, memories...
The sequel wasn't that good, no instant death bugs anywhere, just these.. pathetic knee-biting psuedolarvae things...
There's simply not enough instant death bugs in games anymore. We've cut out a vital play element in favour of people who still use nightlights!

There is one such game actually, top down arcade asteroid-esque shooter. You have to wire the mech yourself from scratch for additional functions, such as ammo count, shields, warning lights, etc.
Heck, I spent hours on mine and I never got more than one weapon firing at a time. ANy tampering and I could not fire at all. Then the engine exploded.
Name please?
Yes! I must try this game! For great justice!
My apologies, was too lazy to dig it out from google at the time. Was quite some time since I played it...

What was the material used in its restrains? Dwarves are notorious for escaping from non-metal restraining gear. And non-metal cages are not even considered for justice containment purposes. (Not that it actually matters, physically speaking. But it might become important later in development.)
Maybe the rope "snapped"?
