did a quick search and didn't find anything, is there going to be support for [TEXTURE_PARAM:LINEAR] ?

I haven't played in a long long time, but this got me to dust off my DF micro and reinstall... and I've always used that option to make the graphics nicer looking for myself.  The newest DF build looks the same with LINEAR or NEAREST set.

I never really saw it as a problem, but I use to get on average 20+ new dwarves a wave--this included children.  I'd expect it even, so when I made the first rooms, I'd always start with 30ish 2x1 rooms ready for them.

If my fort of 200+ went down to 180, it was pretty much guaranteed that it would be 200+ before too long.

can you make a screenshot or explain what is going on?

actually, your x is below the minimum of 80, that could be your problem.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: My Dungeon Master decorates his tomb...
« on: September 17, 2008, 04:34:08 pm »
So I gave my DM a tomb and in it he placed an obsidian idol.

This is kinda creepy!  Is it coincidence that he placed an idol?  I've never noticed them placing items in their tombs before, but maybe I'm just not very observant.

Do they typically store items in their tombs?  If so, is it always so ... topical, or is it random?

This is the latest ver, 40d.

I clicked on this thread thinking there'd be a funny story... what's weird about an idol?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Disassembling stone blocks
« on: September 05, 2008, 12:08:36 am »
Personally, I think stone and blocks should be interchangeable for crafts and building.  A block is just a smoothed or shaped stone.  I don't feel like bugging Toady with yet another idea since he has a ton on his plate, but it would make sense that you can take a block of stone and make rings out of it just as easily as a rough stone.  Blocks might even a nice way to get an extra bit of chance to make a better quality product over plain stone.

Other than that, yes get the deblocker mod mentioned above.

DF Suggestions / Re: Brooks defy common logic.
« on: September 03, 2008, 06:00:45 pm »
Say I manage to dam the brook close to the beginning of the map, or I redirect it into a bottomless pit.. and I would enter the brook bed from the bottom... would the "rocks" still be there making up walls now or would there be a long empty hall with an invisbile ceiling?

too much to read with a headache so I'll just make sure this is answered... yes, the rocks are still there and you can mine them out like any other rock.  Also, even if you mine out the rock from below, you still have to channel out the top layer for a waterwheel to work since it's really just a special 'floor'.

you respect someone who continually and knowingly travels to your fort unprotected when they know goblins are a very high possibility?

elf 1: Oh darn, no one came back from that dwarf town again. They must have died to horrible monsters along the way, they need protection! OR, they love it there, and it's a totally awesome place for us to hang out with out any weapons at all--that must be it, yeah!
elf 2-8: OH OH, pick me to go on the next trade mission! this dwarven eden must be to DIE for!

I think they don't care about restrictions, only getting the depot... so make some walls/doors so they don't go through areas you don't want them to.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Blinking channel designations
« on: August 20, 2008, 12:44:22 am »
Yeah. If there's an item underneath the channel designation, it will blink between the item's icon and the designation icon.

...and despite what tp12 said, there CAN be an item on a channel-designated tile, it'll just fall down when it gets channeled. And blink annoyingly until that happens.

I don't think he said you can't have a symbol on that tile, just that having a symbol there triggers the blinking.

DF Modding / Re: .txt
« on: August 05, 2008, 11:18:50 pm »
where's the face palm emoticon?

mac's can't create new .txt files? that's ludicrous.

It's a little weird to have to make special steps, but go to Format and choose "Make Plain Text <SHIFT-APPLE-T>" and you'll be able to save in a bunch of different encodings of just plain text :D

Mac's are so easy to use in so many ways... but some things are just crazy silly like this :P

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Traders wont leave
« on: August 03, 2008, 11:36:10 pm »
Caravans aren't able to go up rows of ramps if they are like this:
Code: [Select]
(side view)
_
.^
..^
...^

That is probably where you broke their pathing once walling them in. For caravan-passable ramps, you need:
Code: [Select]
^___
....^___
........^

^ = ramp
. = rock
_ = floor

I think there is a bug with keeping traders trapped at the depot in the current version. Its probably a good idea to avoid doing it until the next release at least. ;)

This is wrong, I'm not sure what the problem is, but it wouldn't be the ramps.  I'd easier believe that once you walled in the 'van it bugged out since it now hangs in the air.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Tileset troubles
« on: August 02, 2008, 06:26:31 pm »
your problem might be that you are trying to open an OpenGL context with the size of 1280x400, change it to 1280x800 or 1280x1024 or anything listed under the supported resolutions your OSX display prefs shows.

I know my monitor + osx won't allow 1280x400 (maybe because it assumes noone wants to look at overly tall stuff).

Windows is fine with it, but osx isn't... supposedly this will be changed in the next version of the OS because right now the resolutions supported is generated at startup or the reset of the graphics drivers.
