DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Damned cavespiders

Cave spiders are really only dangerous once you have 2-3 of them at a time once you get superdwarven/perfect/ultra-mighty and a decent set of iron armor. If they're in the middle of a long corridor you just chuck stuff at them until they die, and if they're around a corner I use a maul (or morningstar/hammer if you're a dwarf), beat them, then run around the corner and (s)neak again if they're not dead after one hit. The best part about blunt weapons is the knockback, those f*ckers won't be able to shoot web at you.

Those of you who like to see numbers and concrete evidence need look no further than the RAW folder. Giant axe blades do an incredible 210 base damage, making them the deadliest of all trap components and weapons.

I threw an adamantine giant axe blade at a dragon and not only did it cut the dragon's upper body in two, it sent the corpse flying backward into a wall and exploded it.    :)</STRONG>

Yeah, i had my weaponsmith forge me a masterwork adamantine axe blade.

Adventuring with it got boring though, I killed everything with one hit >_>

i've always liked throwing bolts and arrows. it just strikes me as hilarious that a thrown arrow/bolt is more deadly than a shot arrow/bolt if you have a crappy bow :P

all your problems can be solved with a single proficient marksdwarf with a steel crossbow. train him in shield/armor use and make him some leather armor.

bring a wood crafter and make a crapton of wooden bolts -> game over, chasm critters.

A tip on decorating a single item with many different things without having haulers mess stuff up:

Your metalcrafter will decorate stuff that's forbidden, but still laying around in the workshop. So after you get something you want to decorate into the shop, forbid it and no haulers will come to take it away. It'll almost always be the nearest item to the job so the craftsworker will keep decorating it over and over.

Only trap at the end of the bridge, or the section will collapse before everything gets on it.

*Always triple-check whether that square you're digging a channel into REALLY isn't connected to the magma first.

*Do not anger giant cave spiders. EVER.

*Noble quarters are dug open air next to the chasm, with a floodgate system to push them over the ledge.

named chasm residents will still attack dwarves. They don't seem particularly aggressive though. I had a dwarf-named batman follow my miner around and wrestle him until he got a pick through the brain.

Just give your monstrously awesome dwarf all the best gear and let him solo everything. The only thing that giving other dwarves adamantine armor does is to have more pieces that you have to pick up when they inevitably die to some archer. Use war dogs as spearcatchers if you like.

I mean, I'm assuming you already cleared out your demon pits.

I wish I had the amount of adamantine to be able to do that. My pits sucked, I only got about 300 units of adamantine. (mostly because there was this huge fucking Orthoclase oval in two levels of the main adamantine area)

300 units should be more than enough...

4 for shield
9 for platemail
6 for chainmail
2 for gauntlets
6 for greaves
2 for hi-boots
2 for helm
1 for cap
2 for hood
1 for socks
1 for mittens
4 for trousers
3 for tunic
5 for cloak
5 for coat

that's 53 units right there.

P.s. to get the dwarf to wear chain and plate, get him to put on the chain first by using the levels, then switch it to plate.

you need a legendary +5 clothier to make him a set of masterwork adamantine clothes.

cap, mittens, hoodx7, 3-4 cloaks, a coat (maybe), socks, and some trousers (x2?).

Just make sure to lock up the clothier for when the clothes rot off.

good luck with your fps ...

you should be able to befriend chasm residents after a while. or offer them food and stuff. i'd love to have a giant bat community as neighbors!
