I'm not sure what is causing the hangs and pathing, but it's frustrating.  I mean, it's playable, but at my level of play-time to frustration to free time I have to do anything, it'll take me another week or two to finish the turn, because I can't deal with it for more than 15 minutes or so.  So I don't want to stop anyone else from forging ahead in the brave new world.

Meph - For dorfing my save is down to 14 dorfs, almost all of them named. 

I am not sure I would recommend anyone take my save (if someone wants it, let me know) because all my attempts to make the game less frustrating seem to have not done so, made the game worse, or may have latent effects on the game.  Mechanically, I sealed up some tunnels, dug out a new well fed by the river, and tried a million ways to get the stocks ordered, none of which have really worked.  Those methods include various dfhack attempts to get stuff organized, trying out QS approaches to try and get a few item types organized, and removing most of the stock, and trying to dump things.  None of these worked like they usually work on any other map I have used them on, despite customizing labors a few ways and kicking everyone out of the military.  Summoning migrants failed.  The population is at 14 dwarfs, there is an elven caravan in the depot, but no one will bring anything to trade.  I cleared the dead list, and there are 603 hostiles on the map at this time.

But from a plot perspective a few interesting things happened.  Grimmash got her arm cut off through adamantine armor, but is still alive and well, oddly enough.  Lemuire lit a fire and refused to move, thereby choking to death on smoke.  Half of the other dwarves swap between working for a few minutes, then lying in the hospital or just standing still for weeks at a time.  I've seen everyone not in the hospital sit with "No Job" after expressly setting up only a single job that each is allowed to do and making sure it is valid.  Only 4 dwarves have any reason to go to the hospital, but the rest seem to cycle through continually.  The reason for the fire was to thaw ice for a new well, as the whole map froze and the a blizzard came, and remains frozen into summer.

Ok.  I'm going to punt my turn if anyone wants it. 

It's running really oddly on my computer.  It jumps between 26 and 36fps and then randomly hangs for long moments randomly, and one top of that, getting anyone to do anything seems to be wonky.  I tried disbanding militias to get more dwarves, removing burrows, adding burrows, and every dfhack trick I could to get dwarves to move in something resembling a normal fashion, but things are going so slow and dwarves are seemingly ignoring the normal rules for me.  I just have a hard time sitting and watching the game tick by.  I restrict labors, and people still do nothing.  It has become tedious to the point of driving me insane.

Still working on this.  Anyone know how to find a zone?  I'm trying to figure out where all the dump zones are and get rid of them.

I am technically up for a turn, since KB has disappeared.  However, every time I sit down to play, I end up going to one of my other succession or personal forts or working on learning modding.  So feel free to pick it up, whoever else wants to.  I might be up for a turn later, but I cannot really say when I might get around to it right now.

Is the Hero by any chance the golem?  I tried to train him up a bit but failed.  But, the golem would explain the amazing combat prowess.

Gamer - i think onve powered pylons stay so until all warlocks die.  It is just chaining them that requires LoS/range.  So you could have one built far away, run a warlock by it, and you are good to go.  Is this right Meph?

Another question - youmay have covered this, but can skeletons have tantrums and moods?

Well, I'm glad my dorf did something useful!

I've conscripted more miners, actually. 

First thoughts looking at the save.

Of 17 dwarves, 9 are militia.  Might have to fix this.  We have enough loot to eventually arm everyone in steel and mithril in gaps.  We need a new water source.  The defenses need work.  Embassy exists, so migrants are going to be called in.  Pi is going to die.  He won't move and no one will move him, and he is already dehydrated.  Drow ambushed within days.  The undead and demons are fighting, and in 15 days, 100 were dead.  The undead are thinning out the demons, not sure at what rate the two are going at it.  I can't find the bottom of the structure, so I think that means we breached HFS, but I can't see where or how.  Or not... I don't know.  That will be a goal for later.  Water + lava may be used, or an atom smasher, to further deplete the hordes below.  Probably atom smasher.

We have so many FBs running around, I am going to dig new wells off the river and destroy the current wells.  I cannot see if the caverns connect, and at least one FB is a flyer.

/end random thoughts.  This should be a most interesting turn.  Armok help us :).

When you do not care about what is underneath surviving, just drop the hammer, as it were.  Floor, rock, whatever.  The point here is to just kill lots of stuff, and I am sure the current layout will put a big dent in the undead even if you miss a few.  As a bonus, more levels can always be dug out into another hammer.  First one falls, clear another floor, drop it, repeat until satisfied.

Another more dangerous strategy for lower levels is obisidian casting.  Slower, harder, but if done properly it can be used to clear a floor at a time, and plug holes as you go.

Meph, could you make the creep out of an inorganic block created at a workshop?  Take stone turn it to creep stone/block, then build floors of that?  Not sure if it is remotely possible, but if it is it would also make spreading creep a very time consuming manual process to keep those skeletons busy.

Awesome write up so far.  Glad i have become the elfcutioner.  My only quibble is that I have not actual been overseer yet :).

I hope the hammer works.  Are you going to clear out all that ore first, or just consign it to the cost of wiping out the undead?

Meph, cave ins fall through all floors until they hit un-dug stone.  It can get wonky if you drop whole undug floors, but if you drop a floor it just keeps going all they way down until it hits rock.
