Utilities and 3rd Party Applications / Re: Stonesense: Usage Poll!
« on: July 26, 2014, 10:54:17 pm »
Thanks for the info! There really shouldn't be much extra working taking the older version up to version 40 should there (changing RAWs mostly?)?

If testing help is what's needed, I've got several Macs and I'd be more than willing to help test. Problem is I work two full time jobs and can't always remember to drop by for this kind of stuff. Do any of the Stonesense devs that would need help testing use Skype regularly? I have to be on most hours of the day for one of my jobs anyways, so it's really easy to reach me there if testing is needed. I do tech support, so I'm familiar with SVN and bugtrackers like Mantis or Jira if I can be of any assistance.

I'm curious about the overlay and it's interaction with OS X; is anyone working on it? Is there any particular reason it's not working? Is it just a lack of someone compiling the code for OS X, or are there further issues? With it working for Linux it shouldn't be particularly hard to have it working for OS X as well.

Any info would be superb, as there's not really any central information regarding the stonesense overlay as far as I can tell. If there's anything I could do to help, I'd be more than willing as this is superbly exciting news.

Has anyone got a Mac version working with the stonesense overlay (using DFhacks) or is that only possible on Windows right now?

DF Gameplay Questions / So many questions...

Heya guys,

me again. Got another round of questions for you. I think rather than do a new topic every day with a new question I might just consolidate all the ones I can't find via search here.

First:

Do items your dwarves are wearing (for example, armor and weapons for military dwarves) show in the "bring to depot" screen? I can't figure out whether they do or not, but I certainly don't want to be trading away my militaries' equipment.

DF Gameplay Questions / Injured baby not treated
« on: August 24, 2013, 12:42:10 am »
So my slightly ridiculously incompetent dwarven mother decided to dive into my danger room right as I was setting it off (why do dwarves idle in a doored off dead end instead of the meeting area sometimes anyways?) and while she avoided harm the baby took some pretty serious wounds... and now the mother is just running around doing whatever and ignoring the babies wounds. Is there some way I'm missing to get the baby treated? Chief medical is currently doing "No job" which is very helpful =\

Fun.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dwarves Not Planting?

How hard do you think it would be to mod the game so that dwarves took seeds out of bags to plant them rather than taking the container?

They does that by default. It's -gathering- the seed -to- stockpile that causes the spam, since they takes the container to pick things up.

Also hauling behavior's not moddable, either.

Ah. Well crap.

Perhaps I'm being dense but can you explain in short terms what adding a second stockpile with the take from first stockpile command actually does for you?

I'll go check it out! I was hoping to get a few (dozen) games under my belt before modding, but I'll take a look.

I can't tell if it's working or not. It may be due to the fact that there's just so many seeds in a bag so only 1 or 2 farmers at a time can be working with them... but still, i just got a "can't Plant Seeds: No Plump Helmet Spawn" error with a bag of plump helmets in the stockpile right next to the field (I don't think anyone had time to set it down).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I just think that with close to 150 seeds I should be able to fill a full sized plot >_<

Oh, and is there an IRC that's active enough for me to ask my stupid questions in in the future so I don't waste space in the forums?

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarves Not Planting?

I'm having trouble getting my dwarves to plant correctly. It's in an underground room, a full sized plot, on soil. They plant things on it, but very slowly and often spits out errors about not having any seeds. For instance, in the first plot:

1) They plant about 8 spots at a time
2) Constantly spits errors(name... cancels Plant Seeds: Needs Plump Helmet Spawn)
3) I have (currently) 143 Plump Helmet Spawn sitting in my stocks. My stock counts are set to highest accuracy and they should be a perfectly accessible stockpile.
4) It's set to plant Plump Helmets for all seasons
5) Lots of dwarves with the labor enabled

Am I missing something silly? Can anyone offer any insight here?

healing spells against FB syndromes? ressurection?
Yep and yep :P

That sounds fantastic. The only things I would worry about would be breaking the game balance/difficulty. If I could do fireballs and resurrect dwarves... I think sieges might not be so bad =P Upon further reflection I think I'd almost prefer crafting magical items (such as wands with one-use spells and crossbows firing burning arrows, etc.) over any actual casting or labor/military magic.

no magic mentioned, So I have no idea how much is planned. It's probably in a dftalk or future of the fortress discussion somewhere, since it is popular enough to get taken up by a number of mods. If it is being discussed, you'll most likely find it either in DF dwarf mode discussion or DF general discussion.

edit:
Just remembered, threetoes stories are supposed to give an indication to where the world should be heading for some parts of the game, and there is plenty of magic there, including fireballs and such. So I'd consider the future idea to be relatively standard high fantasy.

Thanks for the replies Garath you've been really helpful! I'll take a nudge around after I get a few more (thousand) games under my belt and maybe think about picking up some mods =P

the answer is (if it wasn't clear): The game is under development. Magic may be added sometime in the future. For now, there are mods to help you there.
o

Aye, I entirely understand the Work in Progress aspect of the game. I guess half of what I was asking was whether it had actually been planned (or even mentioned) for the future. It's not really a game breaker for me, but it was just something that stood out as missing in my mind.

@ the first response, I think you're a bit confused about high and low fantasy- the main differences being the setting and the form the story takes (but I do understand what you're saying).
