Bembul is now the champion of Steeldrinkers. I now imagine training sessions may go something like this:

Apparently one of my dorfs is Chuck Norris.
More like one-kick dwarf.
At least a black belt in Taekwondo, clearly. Especially with the "spiralboots."

Good grief, why didn't I notice that irony sooner...

A forgotten beast emerged from the depths. An undulating gigantic humanoid with wings, and made of rock salt. It had a poisonous sting.

The Mace Lord Bembul Spiralboots was there to meet it.

Bembul laughed in the face of death, and kicked the forgotten beast once in the lower body with his left foot. The forgotten beast broke into two pieces.

Apparently one of my dorfs is Chuck Norris.

I've had to stop accepting bards into the fort since I realized they were nearly half of my total population.
I'll take a few early on, and some scholars; but after a while, it' s just too much.

I once killed a human bard who was making trouble in my tavern. It was a while later that I noticed I hadn't seen a human caravan for a while.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Tips for picking an embark site

I've had some fun making embark sites on those rare spots where "Tall" mountains meet flatland. You get some really dramatic mountaintops and cliffs.

Of course, these can be hard to find.

You can memorialize them with slabs. But only after they're dead.

Though...could you use the custom statue thing to make statues of them?

Make it a tourist attraction. Seal it in with a ring of windows and build an "o" shaped room around it. Make the room a tavern. Promote the beast to the role of fort mascot.
Bonus points for the tavern name being something appropriate.
There's an idea.

Pressing Shift-Down already eliminates the need to hit enter twice, as it selects the entire stack.
But doesn't that then select the entire wagonload of stuff?

If not, I was mistaken. Thanks.

Ok I´ve fixed it, it was my mistake. I assumed that my furnace operating dwarves had to be obviously with "furnace operator" job activated. But instead they all were "wood burners" workin at a furnace, not furnace operators per se. So I checked in my dtherapist and then I realized that. I just set some dwarves to furnace operators and voila! problem solved. Me and half a dozen patched up dwarfs thank you all for your help!
Anytime. Glad to be useful.  :)

Check the job queues on the kilns themselves? Make sure you have a furnace operator handy (as opposed to a potter)?

You should be getting an error message if the problem is a missing ingredient...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: No tavern option
« on: April 04, 2016, 09:28:53 am »
oh now I´m in doubt. I don´t remember exactly which version I have and I´m on other pc right now. Lets pretend I actually have the latest version, could there be something missing? Or if I should have 42.xx version there would be no chance to miss the tavern option?

Nope, you are right its a version issue. I´ve downloaded mine from here: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=7622
I hope my saves are still working with the new version
http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Release_information/0.42.06 That info should be here.

You might also miss other game details (I had an issue with libraries, for instance) depending on how far back you've gone. For instance,  musical instruments are created at worldgen, so if you've got a world made in a pre-instrument version, you don't get the ability to manufacture any instruments even if you move the file to the latest version.

DF Suggestions / Trading Foodstuffs

A minor thing, but could we get rid of the "trade 1 vs trade all" option when trading for food or plant goods?

I get tired of having to hit "enter" twice. I could understand it if this were an item that had significant cost, but the difference between buying one unit of kea heart versus five is negligible, so there's really no reason why we should have to hit enter, punch in a number, and hit enter again.

I decided to station some marksdwarves nearby and see if I could pincushion it to death.

Stairs were dug, fortifications were carved, marksdwarves got into position and punched it so full of holes it fell into the lake...

And promptly climbed back to tis spot on the spore tree and resumed sitting, even while being fired upon by an entire squad.

That's when I noticed that this particular beast was made of mud.

I figure I'm content to let the thing sit where it is as long as it doesn't leave, which it does not seem inclined to do.

Not necessarily.  If the critter is a Blob or something else without appendages, then it can't climb.  Another possibility is the other Beast blasted it into a tree and damaged all its' hands, rendering it unable to climb.  Or possibly it just likes hanging out in that tree.
It's a humanoid anteater, and think it is unscathed, though I'll double check that to be sure.

It's also blowing endless streams of webbing into the lake. This is quite a mental image, while my dwarves are a few hundred feet away, hauling off the blasted remains of two other forgotten beasts.
