LUST_PROPENSITY is already a personality trait, so why not do something with it? Introduce needs and values related to sex!

Tirist McRepressed is constantly ablaze with lust, and he is conflicted by this because he values chastity.

Rakust Kinkyboots is aroused after being chained.

Urist McHorndog is distracted after being unable to clap cheeks.

It sounds actually a good idea.

To make it bad: nobles are sometimes wanting a metal they shouldn't logically know, such as slade. Some dwarves could lust over persons they cannot access, either because they live in a place they wan't go, they are dead or even they don't exist.

Public law seems to be a good idea.

Could we add the possibility of insurrections, civil wars and succesion conflicts?

And they'll be predicted by the prophets that currently don't do much, which is nice.

In some worlds, prophets should only predict disasters linked to their deity's spheres, for exemple fires for a Fire-sphered deity.

Toady lets loose a roaring laughter, fell and terrible!

Toady has created DWARF FORTRESS: THE FILTH AND SQUALOR UPDATE.

This is actually a good idea.

One way to make it terrible would be some dwarves loving to spread filth and refuse across the fortress, never bathing.

MONOTHEISM: civ worships one unique deity.

HERO_WORSHIP: civ worships specifically notable individuals (great warriors, Legendary craftspersons, notorious scholars)

ATHEISM: civ has no deity worshipped

ANIMISM: civ worships spirits related to places (sites, rivers, forrests), items (weapons) and concepts (light, direction)

Weresites.

Each full moon, they turn into sites such as fortresses or cities.

Werewagons!

Funnily, wagons used to be creatures.

My fortresses tend not to attract many nigrants, due to the were East problems I keep having

In addition to werecreatures, we should get wereconcepts, with sentients turning into a concept such as light, poetry or wealth every new moon.

Additional wrinkles:

1. Include different types of flags, so you could designate the zone as "Allow X only", or "Deny Y only", or even combinations such as "Allow anyone who is either X or Z", or "Allow anyone who is both X and Z". The combinations would actually be used most often, as your military won't be able to guard areas that they're not permitted to visit.
If an Allow flag and Deny flag are both true for the same dwarf (e.g., part of the hospital is restricted to medical dwarves only, and forbidden to those who worship a god whose spheres include Death--but then a Wound Dresser of that particular faith walks in), then the Allow flag takes precedence; the dwarf will not be made to leave the area. A modified Justice report will be issued, allowing the Sheriff to interrogate, but not actually punish, the dwarf in question.

2. Allow the same kinds of permission designation on the use of doors and levers, as well as zones.

3. Let the player to choose different levels of specificity, so you could allow/deny access based on . . .
Profession: (Profession group) / (Profession) / (Legendary in Profession) / (specific dwarf)
Faith: (Worshiper of god W) / (Priest of god W) / (specific dwarf)
Military: (any military, including mercenaries) / (fortress militia only) / (specific squad) / (squad captains) / (specific dwarf)
Citizenship: (any non-hostile) / (citizens & petitioners) / (citizens only)
Rank: (any fortress title-holder) / (noble titles only) / (officer titles only) / (specific dwarf)
Race: (any non-hostile) / (any not goblins or kobolds) / (dwarves, humans, & elves only) / (dwarves & humans only) / (dwarves only)
     etc.

This would allow for things like only Legendary Jewelers and Metalcrafters having access to the Treasury, only the squad named the Imperial Corridors is permitted to guard the queen's chambers, only the clergy of a certain god may visit their most sacred shrine (while the other faithful are free to enjoy the rest of the temple). If a goblin somehow manages to join your fort, and you wanted to simulate public harassment & ridicule, you could designate major public areas as flagged against goblins, so he would keep tripping Race flags everywhere, even in areas he's allowed to be, and keep getting hauled in for questioning. Etc.

Will negations be allowed (for exemple "No Civilian Allowed" for prisons and "No Elves Allowed" for slaughterhouses)? And it might be handy to have for private owners when private property will be introduced (an owner might only allow himself and his houselold in his house but allow his workers in his workshop).

Stabbing oneself while cutting meat.

come to think of it, perhaps this should coincide with some kind of "patchwork" "repair" and "maintence"-related "arc", that or "tools"

Maintenance might be an useful way to train up craftsmen.

I think implementing something like this would help reduce the lag that is present in goblin sites without affecting their immortality.

Could this be linked to skill levels? For exemple, a dabbling miner would be more likely to die during a caving in.

I think maybe every site, player controlled or not, should have a chronicle. Then we can buy these of other sites from caravan. Very organic way to give access to Legend without complete spoiler.

However, IMO opinionated work should be written by historians, like what they are doing now, each book for a piece of essay on a specific event. Chronicle should just be a list of events and when they happened.

And historians could use these chronicles as sources, along with direct testimonies.

As dwarves never excrete anything, all the mass of the food they eat and liquid they drink should, by all rights, be conserved forever.  As such, once a dwarf stops growing, they slowly become more and more dense; a sufficiently long-lived and well-fed dwarf will become a tromping mass of meat heavier than an equal-sized lump of slade.  This makes falls a lot more...interesting.
If they get dense enough the can collapse into a black hole when they die.

Why wait their deaths?

We already have a Historian skill, so chroniclers might appear soon.

We could even see some let their bias in the story, like a chronicler thinking the slave revolt he brutally suppressed had it coming.

Dwarves should also rent or own their own shops.
