I'd first clean up the clusterfuck that is the management; block off some rarely-used paths that just lower FPS and just generally try to make the fort more compact.

Apparently the dwarf was kicked in the stomach recently and has only just started mining again after the creature that did so was killed. That's the only way you can get a dwarf to mine in a pile of their own vomit.

I'm not saying that horrible deaths don't or didn't happen. I'm just saying that the way that they did weren't anywhere near as varied as in the Dwarf Fortress universe. And in Dwarf Fortress, if it happens to one dwarf, it often happens to those that see it too. And when you've died, you very rarely get the chance to get used to it. More to the point, if you see a horrible cause of death just once and snap immediately, you also don't get that chance.

Although the "only really violent, unnatural deaths should rattle them to the extent that they are currently rattled" bit really doesn't narrow it down much, does it. Seriously, causes of dorf death that I've heard or seen recently include burnt tongue (licking magma, igniting the rest of the body seconds later), the infamous lignite-and-water-based burning trap and blistering to death. I am all for super-emotionally-tough, sociopathic murderdwarves, but if seeing those don't make you go either melancholic or completely and utterly bonkers, you can't possibly be sapient. Or sentient, for that matter.

See here. Like people said shortly afterwards, kefka the entire fort. Again.

An armadillo...with a poisonous sting. Sounds like you could just start with a glyptodont, and then warp the shape of the tail a bit so it arches over the shell.

Lack of FPS. We decided to end it by invading hell...again.

I think bees fly through open fortifications, so carving some into smoothed rock walls should work. Refuse management shouldn't be a problem with magma to drop it into.

But if you want open space safe from climber, maybe overhanging floors could work? Like this, seen from the side:

Code: [Select]
I          I
I          I
I--      --I
I          I
I----------I

I think that should do the job.

I think it's mostly just that dwarves are fucking crazy. Also, they don't have access to nail clippers. Their nails are probably extremely long, really disgusting and up to an inch thick.

Use anvils for maximum comedy value.

The first screenshot doesn't work. Also, the quality seems to be just as good as it was before. And am I the only one who thinks the Hill Titan looks like a bunny?

34.11, huh? But with an old computer. Let's say 3-5 months... Deathgate III probably won't be too screwed up by the time I get to it.

He boiled it to death with his own blood ????

Your fort has been going for forty years?

110 years, actually :).  ~Forty years ago was just when King Urist was killed during a tantrum spiral.  Relicshield was founded in 251.  King Urist died in 323, while the year is now 361.
You are crazy. Really really crazy. Probably not even good crazy. Crazy crazy. What is wrong with you?

Also, good to hear that a good new PC can handle DF for that long, considering that I want to take a turn on Deathgate III on my new computer, and the Deathgate forts have a reputation for killing computers. On what version are you?
