and I once lost an entire fortress to FB-induced rot because I used floor grates instead of actual floors.
I'd like to know how you managed to do that. Did the FB die/get wounded so lots of blood spurted out/walk on the "floor" above your dining room and the syndrome-y stuff just fell through?

The "assigning necromancers as butchers is hilarious" part or the "someone will make every character they can get their hands on a necromancer" part?

Considering what purposes I've been twisting LEGO bricks to recently (including something that looks like a hybrid between a wasp, a scorpion (with claws), a fly and a praying mantis), I should probably refrain from arguing. All I can say is that as the size of an arthropod increases, how much it scares me decreases exponentially.

Maybe I should make some ASCII art for this FB.

Also a valid point: with people able to communicate exponentially quicker (with more processing power for thinking and/or absence of typing/talking by sending the signals directly), culture will evolve much quicker as well. You may see a radically different culture (as different as modern society compared with pre-industrial revolution) within a year of the technology being available.

Wait, first it's last name is Manipulateddeserts and then it suddenly becomes Pumpkinpocks?

Also, the dirigible antelope bugs are hilarious.

We're not just dead, thanks to kefka we're going to be mincemeat cookies. We need to finally breach hell. And I think it would be a good idea if we let kefka have as much time with the fort as he wants. Let's see whether he can sustain a fortress rather than have let the bubonic plague run rampage through the fort.

What I don't understand is why we're taking the extinction of humanity so seriously. I mean, what's so bad about it?

983
Why he added "your life or your reason" is beyond me. The average DF player doesn't seem to value either.

Weird, all I get is messages about the gas bag having been damaged. I can't even let them fight...whatever weak creatures we currently have, if any, because they usually do so seconds after I've spawned them, upon which they die from either height or some unknown cause.

985
Yes, but for something to be scary, it has to create an emotional "I'm scared" reaction, and it's safe to say that I am not scared of them (big bugs are less scary than small ones to me).

986
Sounds like a good idea. If it weren't for the fact that my free time is decreasing, I would volunteer for King of Arms, but as it is I'll have to leave it, as getting things arranged correctly and efficiently should be done properly.

987
Wait, do scorpionflies actually sting?

Also, why exactly are we scared of it? If it was a web-spitting winged three-eyed octopus covered in grey feathers, now that would be scary, but an insect isn't really the height of pants-shitting, fight-or-flight instinct-class scariness.

We only really need one for new necromancers to spawn, so that sounds fine.

Also, I will be most amused if someone decides to get every dwarf to become necromancers. Assigning a necromancer as butcher would be hilarious.

Or we go with the flow of the old Deathgate for 2014 and we do this without gimmicks. A large part of what made Deathgate I so crazy was that every overlord built their deathtraps according to a moments whim and to match the situation at the time. There was no overarching plan, just lots of little gear-shaped plans designed to make the whole thing go "cuckoo".

Has Toady said whether that's changing for DF2014 or not?

If not, then I'm still all for starting this early. Necromancers and mummies don't seem to fit with the almost LotR look our plans will give this world. Speaking of which, anyone up for building DF Eye of Sauron to house our Big Bad?
