"You're giving me full command? Hehehe... Perfect. I won't let you down, Astrosa."

Follow the pre-laid plan. Stealth-approach a village not overly far from the city walls, start with settibf a few buildings on fire through mind-controlled villagers, to lure bravest ones into the open so that Astrosa may finish them in one move. Capture several women or children. Make the rest run in utter panic to the city. Wait for their move while slowly burning the village to the ground.

((I'm alive! Mostly. Status updates and work on sheets would be continued today/tomorrow.

If we encounter great resistance, we may abandon the plan and easily escape.
And if fear doesn't work, we still have more villages...))

Anyway, I've entered the Ziggurat. Really should've come back here after getting the Orb, but I'm not insane...not completely insane, anyway.
Trying Zig after Orb is ridiculously boring & hard. While in main dungeon, demons spawn on a wide level and take a while to get their claws on you. In the Zig, they spawn directly on top of you and turn already quite tiring climb into never-ending slaughterfest of imminent death.

Tell us how you'll cope with later floors. The most FUN creatures are often concentrated on them in great numbers, ready to tear you into small shreds of gore.

Having harmless endgame fun as a ridiculously powerful MuFi: escorted Ereshkigal all the way to Tomb:3, shouted "wait here!" and left her alone. On the way, archdemoness constantly insulted me and recasted silence every few turns to, presumably, prevent my rantings about surrounding architecture, past victories and plans about future unlife.

HAH! So I wasn't crazy when I remembered 'didn't a few unique pan lords get to me (and die trying) when I was running up with the Orb'? o_O
...You had her as an ally?  :o

You're right about unique lords trying to kill you on the Orb run. I think it happens if you take their rune, yet leave them alive.

Ally? Sadly, but no, she was trying to kill me all the time. And failing miserably (title Invulnerable is surprisingly close to the truth for this character). You're also wrong to assume I've done it while already on the Orb run. Bone rune was the last one and I wanted to have some good laugh - so I lured Ereshkigal out of her secluded rotting netherworld and let her follow me on a sightseeing toor through Depths, Dungeon, Vaults and Crypt to the Tomb.

I'm thinking of continuing this from a pre-victory save. Pretty sure its possible to make Ereskigal follow me through all Pandemonium. The only problem would be inability to autoattack so not to hurt her.

EDIT: Yeah, walking through Pan with archdemoness was quite fun, especially when I learned to leave her to wander for some time, letting me clear lord of the place and all minions.

+11 Long Sword (vamp, rF++, rC++ Stlth-) or +5 Double Sword of Slicing?

For context, I'm level 21 and have cleared Shoals/Snake/Orc/Vault:1-4 but I only have rF+ and rC+.

Edit: Is the Ring of Shadows worth using over, say, str+3 or MR?

Well, depends on what do you want to take on next and how much beating you can survive. Vamp can let you have a much easier time taking Elf and Vault:5 (or not, if they swarm you en masse), while double sword is your friend in Crypt and end game, when enhanted to +9.

Yes, but MR+ can be useful if you have low natural one.

Apparently the abyssal rune of Zot spawns on Abyss:1 now, since I found it after getting banished without changing floors. (incidentally, I managed to get it as my first rune because I got banished just before I got to the Spider Nest)
I could've sworn that you can get banished directly to Abyss:3 in some cases now.
Not only Abyss:3, sometimes Abyss:4. Ancient liches can banish as deep as Abyss:5.

Most recent Beogh runs were experimental: I disposed of all orcs that did not have branded weapon. This got me killed more than a few times, and isn't efficient thing to do (instead of searching for one brand-wielder, you can train two-three normal orcs into warlords). Still, now the elite squad obliterates everything on its path.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Saint Roka and shield-bearers are outfitted in gold dragon armor, giving them much needed resists. When I cleared Zot:5, one of them got trap-transformed into jelly, so I retreated back to Zot:4, recalled... And got duplicate of the original orc, with all his gear intact (and duplicate gear still lying on the Zot trap). Jelly wandered Zot:5 for some time before being killed.

P.S. Beoghites, take note that rotting damage your orcs suffer is permanent. Its not quite noticeable with their HP > 400 at 27 lvl, though.

This game's too easy now.
Medium parts of the game are very easy. Hard times will begin anew with Tomb/Hell/(Zig), with swarms of damnation, smite and torment. Necromutation should protect you from the latter, though.

((Whole week IRL was hectic as hell and this will continue for three more days at least. I'll wait until I can get enough time and inspiration to write a meaningful plan of conquest for Ulkas. Same goes for AlraOm from the other RTD, unfortunately.))

I got two runes with my first character, and as I'm writing this, three. I'm going for all the runes, then the Orb. That's right, ALL SIXTEEN, SIX-AND-TEEN, 1-6, OF THE RUNES Game devs say its impossible. I do the impossible.
Actually, fifteen runes then the Orb are not that hard to accomplish with a right character. But the reverse (three runes - Orb - remaining twelve runes) is hellish experience. Don't try it with Ashenzari.

The map is a representation of what all wizards see when they use a maping spell that also tracks magic.

((So... To hunt a mage, one must simply go to the closest revealed magic source, repeat if needed? Okay.))

Perfect Beogh start - finally achieved.

((Possibly one of the three most satisfying turns here. RNG blessed me with luck once again and the damned jelly-thing is DEAD! Now, recuperation awaits...))

Wheezing from exertion, yet once again feeling superior to the world, as any proper mage should, Kahel carefully examined the extent of damage his body took in such short frame of time. Ideally, he should reach James... Yet healer mage could have wandered somewhere to experiment. So, for now his way led to the eldritch tower from the other world. Hopefully, regeneration field still worked.

Loot oil/shards, if possible. Go to the tower.

Great news! I'm supporting embarking onto Evil coast.

Wait I haven't played in a while and I just read the .18 patch notes.

They removed resist mutation and basically all combat wands? :o
Yep. Although they added other combat wands to counther that (iceblast, acid). All in all, wands did not suffer much. rMut absence hurts, but surprisingly not as much as expected. Its simply hard to keep a good mutation list from mid game into the end game. Clarity was a much more sensitive loss in comparison, at least for me.

How the hell did you survive eight berserking juggernauts with a melee character? Hell, with any character? Those things are probably my most-feared monster.

I was seriously asking about this, in case you missed it. Any and all tips on juggernauts would be greatly appreciated. I can't even fathom how someone could survive a Zig floor with eight of the bastards.
Sorry, missed your question.

I looked at the log afterwards - it was ten berserking jugs. Firstly, I did not care much about them, as I was swimming in orc summons and jugs can't do much by themselves (~50 AC, Gozag, Spirit shield, Haste). Then, moths of wraith appeared. I quickly found out that two berserking jugs pounding at me hurt. Teleported, found more jugs with more moths, teleported again... I needed five teleports to clear out all remaining orcs and moths before taking on last five monstrosities at my leisure.

Just to compare, three jugs without berserking did nearly not as much damage to me as a single iron giant with his throwing session. Iron giants are much more dangerous.
