I imagine them as everyday people with a mix of every stereotype. They don't have a tatto, sign or anything that tells them they are a member. They are just plain people.

Blue-collar workers who defend the worker's rights, nerds who defend the right of privacy, tough anti-racist black guys, intellectual and independent women who defend women's rights, ex-politicans and journalists who defend the free speech and election reforms, pyromaniacs who defend flag burning, that weird drunk ex-cop who protests against police violance, that weird guy who defends the homosexual rights, hippies who go around an shout "legalize it!" and, I guess you get the idea.

i see my avrage member as benny from fallout new vegas with the scars of freddy kruger and the missing teeth of a hick because i give them cool suits but every single conservative shoots me stabs me and punches me at every single turn so they end up deformed and suffering from mental problems

I usually picture either

A. Regular people with assault rifles

or

B. Dressed similarly to The Resistance in Brink.

In my mind, when they are recruited they are just regular people of various professions. As they gain juice, they gradually start letting their hair and beard grow unchecked and their clothes get scruffy. Doctor or lawyer -> Che Guevara in a worn suit -> full hippie. They can disguise themselves as normal people because they are so bad ass one one dares to point out their appearances.
