Send them out to hunt more prey for us to feast on, working as a group and spreading out as necessary.

Couple questions:

Has everything we've eaten been alive? Can we get any power from dead stuff?

How much soul/spirit do we get per rat (or bug or whatever)?

If we don't know the answers I suggest
The Glitterlance brings us live prey, one of the Toothlings brings us recently dead prey, the other Toothling brings us some plants if it can find them. We then pay attention to the yields of each thing.

I say we make sure we're in a solid position until we start experimenting. Experimenting will only make us gain less strength at a time when we need to be focusing on growing stronger.

Most of what you have gotten has been dead, some things have been alive. The alive creatures gave you slightly more power when you consumed them.

Good to know that, at least. May be interesting to experiment with time between death and consumption at a later date.

Your creatures depart, leaving you alone. They are gone for a long time, long enough you begin to wonder if you should try and look through their eyes to see what happened. However, before you do, you see the first Toothling come back, the rear half of its body crushed and leaking black fluid. In its maw is an absolutely massive rat.

Behind it comes the Glitterlance and the Toothling, with more rats, all far larger than is normal. Both creatures are injured, although not as severely as the first Toothling. (+0.8 Spirit, +0.8 Soul)

Create a second Glitterlance and a Toothling, using 0.5 Spirit and Soul for the Glitterlance and the rest for the Toothling.

I'd like a few more people to weigh in before I update.

I don't trust these budget creatures. If we want an eye, then put it all into it - 0.8 of both to craft a Skittering Eye, an eyeball similar to a spider with its many rat feet. It also has a mouth where the pupil of the eye should be, but can see perfectly fine.
