The time has come
to say fair's fair
To pay the rent
to pay our share.
The time has come
a fact's a fact
It belongs to them
let's give it back.

How can we dance when our earth is turning?
How do we sleep while our beds are burning?

I heard once that apparantly it's quite easy to starve in a climaxed rainforest, which might sound surprising, but you see the competition is just so damn high. Nobody gets to hibernate in the tropics, ever thought about that?

The monodominant flower heath is always a favourite of mine. It's not a particularly good ecosystem, but it does tell a story. England has a few of these things where centuries of woodland exploitation and farmland cultivation followed by rapid abandonment resulted in these vast wastelands of barren, acidic and depleted soil, where most plants fail to thrive. But then you get one nitrogen fixing flower colonising the heath and suddenly the entire area is dominated by a single flower. It ends up looking like the most beautiful ecological scar on the landscape, something the mind innately recognises as rare and unusual, beautiful but a total imbalance of nature. These flower heaths mostly got cleared during WWII to make way for farmland again, but if you leave them alone for long enough, eventually they revert back to marshland or woodland. Still, a neat narrative.

Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri?

The Carpet People was also a good one probably, I haven’t read it for years.

The Carpet People
With a name like that I might need to read that, is this a book or a short story?

It’s a book. Terry Pratchett wrote it, I think pre-Discworld.

It’s just a fantasy novel about tiny people who live in carpets, and a journey one (or some) of them make through it.

As I say it’s been a while, but I remember enjoying reading it.

(Aside from "The Hades Business", it's the work that a real Pratchett collector might really want to get a first imprint of. The one by Pterry, not co-authored by Pterry and Pterry+21years. And I can't quite work out if an unsigned copy would be rarer than a signed one, in this case. ;) )

Today: rivers. Because I saw a wide and shallow slow moving river, with really clear water, and watched fish for like 90 minutes. I even saw some tankcleaner kind of fish. Ok so.
