 They come that way.

 It seems all hammerers are subject to training akin to butchering kittens, beating criminals and having a general distain for all living things. THEN they become hammerers.

Although my military get it without exception, I've never seen a butcher with the "doesn't care" thought, and mine go through a LOT of kittens.  Is this just another of those rumors that go around?

The butcher and anyone who saw an animal get slaughtered for food used to eventually get this tag, but I think it has since been removed. :(

This can be resolved by just making them watch as you repeatedly impale wave after wave of immigrants on spike traps.
