[176.38a] Sound corruption w/ higher task priority
« on: February 21, 2008, 09:18:00 pm »

I would guess it's a problem with fmod rather than DF, but still. If I run DF with a higher priority (right click on task in task manager, run with nice -n -20 wine drawfort.exe under linux) the sound eventually screws up. I think it may double in speed and start playing twice or... something, I'm not sure. Anyway, I don't know if this will be of any help, but there you go.

This may be a wine bug, you should report it on the wine-dev mailing list too.

This also happens with Windows.  I'd imagine that what's happening is that the sound update thread keeps getting preempted so that it can't keep up with playback.  Only thing Toady could do would be to increase the priority of the sound thread, which would bring its own set of problems.
