I've shared a couple of tales from DF with a friend of mine.
Her comment: "Now I see why you like that game so much: now matter how bad your own life gets, the dwarves still have it worse."

Do you feel the schadenfreude?
Was that supposed to be read to the tune of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight"? Because that's how I read it.
More like how Medic says it.

I know it's not exactly what Medic says, but still.

I tried to explain to my friends what Dwarf Fortress was. I couldn't find the words.

Most of them just go "wtf". One guy I knew actually mocked me a fair bit for it. One of my friends asked me about it when he saw me playing. I explained it, and he said "Wait... that's awesome. So how do you play?"

He's still on his first fort, population over 100, and survived his first titan. I have no clue how, because he has the worst fortress layout ever and still can barely handle the military. I guess having a High Master armorsmith migrate to your fortress makes it easier to hand the military though. Noobs have it too easy these days - back when I was a noobie, moods and lots of metal were the only ways to get legendary metalworkers.*grumble*

Oh, and then he got one of his friends to play. Turns out it was the same guy that made fun of me for it. He's now utterly addicted, although it took him two failed forts to figure out that no, water doesn't act like it does in minecraft.

I don't have any friends that could even be remotely inspired to play this game. :(

I tried to talk my brother into it, but he just looked at the screen and said, "Um, no, I need to be able to tell what's going on."  He giggles at the stories of what happens sometimes though.

The magma-fu may be strong in this pupil.

Bit of a late reply, but wouldn't Krav Magma be a better name for it?  :)
