In my mind, the necromancers are huge neckbeards with nothing to do but write books all day, and nothing to write about but themselves, the secrets of Life and Death, and occasionally their towers.

I think it's cool that Toady added these metabooks. He mentioned that the book framework came from a wizard game he made, does anyone know more details on it?

Well, it's not just the necromancers. My rabbit monster has been writing books non-stop since it was taken prisoner by humans.

I wonder, what would they do if someone killed their king.
Inevitable, who cares. Now an onion...

Probably had nothing else to do in jail.

Which is interesting. I wonder how the system recognizes how much discretionary time a character has.

EDIT: Have to say I'm loving these books and I can't wait untill we start seeing more details/stories. These little touches really make Legends Mode fun.

I too seem to have a necromancer academy, 'Trammelroad,' filled with burgeoning authors. It's full of gems like these:

'Errors in the Fortress,' which momentarily made me think the game had accidentally thrown an error message when generating the title and accidentally read that as the title...

'Death: A Brief History.' Well, yeah, it'd have to be brief, wouldn't it? Especially at 14 pages long!

'Doren Hushedtome is My Life.' By Doren Hushedtome, natch.

'Doren Hushedtome, My Love.' Also by Doren Hushedtome. Written in a 'very serious tone' to boot! This guy is in love with himself.

'The Human: Fact or Fiction?' Gee, I dunno, what do you think?

'The Book After the End.' What an awesome name! What's it about? Another book: 'The Nuanced Death'. But this isn't actually about that book. It's about the storing of the book in Trammelroad. Where it was written. As was this book. Did the necromancer really need 42 pages to say "When he finished writing it, he put it on a shelf just like every other book in the place, including this one."

Alas, the life of a Queen is a lonely one. Do the things with the whatsit."

Here's one book I found in legends titled "The World Without The Fortress". Quite fitting, as I haven't actually started any fortress yet. Although I doubt that's what it is actually about.  :)

Azoc Cryptburials and the Virtuous Weevils

That'd make an awesome band name.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

So after generating a world and flicking through legends, I find a book titled "Squashed Dwarf" which is a 195-page autobiography of the dwarf necromancer Udib Talkedmansions.

I'm wondering if perhaps she was originally involved in an 'unfortunate accident' involving a cave-in / bridge, which caused her to become obsessed with her own mortality...

(edit) Oh, and it gets more likely - she was a fishery worker by trade but was actually the queen of her civilisation for 19 years until her ascension to necromancer-hood.

Lir Bathespreads married Bathru Hailhops in 13. In 40, he became a necromancer. In 43, she died. That year, he wrote a poem about her, titled "Nobody Weeps."

And we sang "the farm!"

Death, my love

It must have been the dwarf

The slab: fact or fiction?

Sor Stathra, "the funeral of playing"

The Afterlife: the definitive guide

The human is in the way

The Dwarves: my only mistake

To the Dwarf and glory!

The Overlord, which isn't actually a necromancer's version of The Prince, but I imagine it to be.
At One With the Tower.
Start Your Day With sleep.
My Friend the Human. The tone is mocking and cruel.
