The next day i checked this thread and, thanks to Kaos's idea decided to duplicate save file to simply check the legends. You see the result in the link.
Glad I helped, I really recommend you to use
Legends Viewer, it's way easier to find stuff with the filter criteria and advanced search functions.
Notice that the names in Legends Viewers are the english names, not the dwarven names, you can change the options in DwarfTherapist to show the english names instead for easier identification between applications.
So I did a little bit of !!SCIENCE!! with my vampires
I checked my legends (again) and to my surprise the disguised clothier vampire that showed up in my fortress is not 1 of the 3 that were settled in one of my civ's sites, he belongs to another dwarven civ
different than my parent's civ...
Possible Vampire Fact:1 ) they not necessarily need to belong to your civ (confirmation needed...)
Also my vampire queen showed up, curiously I was still a barony, haven't reached duchy yet, wasn't being a duchy a requirement for becoming the capital?
When I became a barony, the become capital menu showed up, I only needed to give some offerings, which I gave in the next caravan in autumn, then a goblin siege showed up in winter (goblin Christmas! yay!) was quite a fun siege:
One full (15 I think) brigade of lashers led by a Marksgoblin mounted on a gigant cave swallow, by this point almost 75% of my map is surrounded by wooden walls, with 4 main entrances (raised bridges)
I placed my whole militia on the other side of the wall where the goblins showed up, I was confusing them by opening and closing the bridge entrances so they would scatter.
The marksgoblin leader decides to troll me by flying up and down on the outer side of the walls, so he would fly 1z lvl up and shoot at my dwarves and animals on the other side, and fly down back to the ground level...
I selected a few of my top best marksdwarves, which at the point only have wooden/caravan metal crossbows and wooden bolts, and order them to kill the leader and his mount...
A flying wooden bolt strikes the gigant cave swallow on the THROAT, severing a major ARTERY, haha!! take that!!, next step the mount dies on the spot (while flying) and falls down (sadly only 1 z lvl) and the leader doesn't receives injuries but gets stunned, but it was really fun to shoot him down with mount and all for being a trololol... XD
After that the goblins got inside by the open spaces in my wall, but they arrived 1 by 1 or in couples at most, against my full stationed army, and my markdwarves showering them with arrows....
It was a massacre... all the goblins were struck down, they only managed to kill 2 dwarves: a mother and her baby... I mean meat shield
Meanwhile the leader stayed put around where he felt, when I finished his brigade and went after him... the coward escaped...
My vampire queen is identified as vampire but my vampire clothier isn't... how do they get identified as vampires?
Good uses for vampires:1) eternal crafter, no sleep, no drink, no eat, only a break once in a while (that they use to bite) but if they don't have access to other dwarves... no harm
2) eternal watch post, the same but stationed with no way out...
3) Aquifier digger/builder, since they don't drown, no harm when they get accidentally pushed by the pump and stuck under 7/7 water, just when your pump operator decides to take a break or snack...
4) eternal pump operator? haven't tested this one...
5) military, they tend to have high physical attributes (even though they can't increase them) and they still are able to learn skills, just need to lock them and release on your enemies.
How do they attack?1 ) They go on a break
2 ) They choose a sleeping victim and walk there
3 ) When they are next to the victim, their name turns dark red, the attack has begun! if you check the thoughts page you can see that it says that "their teeth are very long" or something like that...
4 ) Victim health status becomes "Faint" (minor injuries)
5 ) Victim health status becomes "Pale" (major injuries)
6 ) Victim dies... well... maybe... there are reports on victims not dying... maybe the strong ones resist?? the ones I checked weren't strong...
7 ) Vampire goes back to normal, regular name colour and short teeth.
8 ) Witnesses report the crime
9 ) Justice follows...
Stopping an ongoing attack:1 ) De-constructing the bed: I can confirm that this works, if the victim is "Faint" it says that has sustained "minor injuries",
if the victim is "Pale" it says that has sustained maj
or injuries2 ) Drafting the victim/vampire and order them to station??
haven't tested this... might work... it works if you draft the vampire, haven't tried drafting the sleeping victim, though...
3 ) the victim wakes up on its own? haven't seen this myself...
4 ) digging the wall under the victim and then channelling the floor where the victim is sleeping so they fall? haven't tried myself...
5 ) Flushing with water and pumps? haven't tried...
6 ) Near-by cave-in? haven't tried...
7 ) releasing an enemy/wild animal nearby (scare
crowvamp
)? haven't tried...
8 ) Other ideas??
