I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.

Why not use them to farm FB/CS silk? They're viable targets, so the creatures would web all over the place. You'd end up with an eternal supply of silk without any micromanagement at all.
Well, that would air-drown them, and i think that that webs cant be spun into water.
Also, clown silk is far, far better then FB/CS silk, because it is fire and cold proof, and does not ignite.
Would sponges still air-drown if we poured water on them instead of letting them soak in a stable body of water?

Water must be 4/7 for a creature to swim (and therefore breath) in it you could pour water but it would have to routinely reach 4/7 and even then one odd stretch of shallow water would ruin it.

So do creatures air-drown immediately upon being beached, or do they actually need to run out of breath first? If it's the second it shouldn't be too hard to make sure that a 7/7 chunk of water falls often enough to keep them happy.

same as air breathing I'd guess, some time based on lung capacity and endurance and such.
