Whew!  You know the Featherhawks are going to be grateful it's over.

F13 against Kobb's Khorne in that game is pretty much where it all went downhill.  If my blitzer(?) hadn't been tripped, I had a 2-die block against the ball carrier and despite all the death and destruction might have held it out for a tie...but that's life, and it sure went better than the last match.

The Featherhawks have exactly 11 players, and fortunately they now have three surviving level-2s.  On the other hand, they've only got a team worth of 980k, and 2k in the bank...not enough to have any backup if someone goes down.  I think they might retire after this season while the rest are still alive--perhaps to be replaced by another, more sturdy team.

On the other hand, the inducements against other people would probably be able to afford Zara or the HMC. On the other other hand, your HMC appears cursed by Nuffle...

Kobb's Khorne vs. Self Inflicted

Khorne elects to kickoff. They get an extra reroll, but kick the ball out of bounds.

S1: A thrall goes down to bloodlust. The ball-carrying vampire quickly blitzes his way downfield.

K1: A thrall goes out with an injury from a Tail block. A blitzing beastman knocks over the vampire with the ball. NATAB gets beside the ball, and NATAB goes back in defense.

S2: A vampire breaks for the end zone, and his A5 friend picks it up and tosses it to him for the score.

K2: The newly A4 Chaos Warrior fails to catch the high kick. He does manage to pick up the ball (with a reroll), run forward, and toss it to TAB, who runs it downfield with friends.

S3: Vampires knock TAB over, but fail to pick up the ball.

K3: The minotaur stuns himself knocking over a thrall.

S4: A thrall injures himself on a block.

K4: NATAB stuns a thrall. After a bunch of pushing, there's enough space for TAB to double-GFI to the ball, and toss it back to the A5 CW (hereby nicknamed "Triple Pounder" for the three-kill game that got him his agility).

S5: Count Luthor pushes TP back, and another vampire blitzes him down and picks up the ball.

K5: The ball carrier gets knocked over, and TP runs over and picks it up. Speedy runs into the end zone. The minotaur decides to wildly stay on the ground, playing dead.

S6: The six Self Inflicted players left make a couple of pushes.

K6: TP rumbles downfield with three beastmen flanking him. The rest of Khorne tries to knock over everyone possible, including Count Luthor.

S7: Not much.

K7: TP continues to rumble to the goal line. Six beastmen surround him, and the rest of the team continues the knockaround run.

S8: Kanil smartly blitzes the beastman wall, pushing one into TP, forcing TP into the end zone, getting him an extra shot at recovery from KO. Sadly, the rules do not work that way. Instead, K8 was ignored, and halftime happened.

Halftime Score: Self Inflicted 1 - 1 Kobb's Khorne

K9: Kobb's Khorne gets another free reroll. TP picks up the kickoff, and tosses it to TAB. TAB runs it downfield with a couple of guys to support. The Minotaur tries to go for it to get to Count Luthor, and falls over.

S9: Two vamps get beside TAB, and one pushes him around. Count Luthor then gets beside him to have a chat.

K10: With a few blocks, TAB has enough room to dodge away from the Count and get beside the end zone.

S10: The Count decides to try once more to convince TAB of the error of his ways. He knocks TAB over, but fails to pick up the ball. Another vampire falls over trying to dodge back toward the ball.

K11: The minotaur falls over trying to block a vampire.

S11: The Count knocks out the remaining beastman standing beside the ball, picks it up, and runs it forward. Another beastman gets wrestled to the ground, and yet another gets stunned by a block. Another thrall gets injured by a thirsty vampire.

K12: Several beastman and a Chaos Warrior knock over the Count. NATAB picks up the ball, and tosses it to TAB in the end zone for the score.

S12: Khorne lines up in FFB, and gets yet another reroll on kickoff. Another thrall goes down to vampire thirst. One vampire picks up the ball, and another runs downfield.

K13: Several beastmen get beside the potential catcher. A couple more race toward the vampire with the ball. Another few manage to knock over the Count.

S13: The passer gets the ball to the potential catcher (assisted by some hypnotic gazes on the beastmen beside him), who runs it in for the score.

K15: TP goes back to receive the kickoff. The ref lets the clock run a turn. TP picks up the ball. The front line of Thralls falls over. A vampire is blitzed down by NATAB, who continues downfield.

S15: A thrall is knocked out by a vampire. Count Luthor and a friend get to TP, but only push him back.

K16: TP dodges away from the Count and friend, poses, and manages to butterfinger the pass.

S16: The Count fractures TP's skull. A vamp picks up the ball, and tosses it to a second, who runs downfield with it.

Score at Full Time: Self Inflicted 2 - 2 Kobb's Khorne

K17: Two beastmen, including TAB, get beside the ball carrier. Three more get over to the Count and accompanying thrall.

S17: The ball carrier has a sudden need for refreshment, and the closest Thrall is back by the Count. After drinking his fill, he hands the ball to the count, who runs it downfield. toward the goal line.

K18: Nobody can get close to the Count.

S18: The Count runs it in.

K19: Rocks thrown before the kickoff knock over the Count and NATAB. TP picks up the ball and tossed it to TAB at midfield. TAB gets a beastman to each side, and one behind him.

S19: Two vamps knock over TAB despite his friends. A third falls over trying to pick up the ball.

K20: The minotaur double-downs.

Final Score: Self Inflicted 3 - 2 Kobb's Khorne

Final Thoughts: Oh, Minotaur, when will you learn Block? It would make life so much more pleasant.
I was really hoping for a second overtime in this one, because it was just such a solid, enjoyable, back-and-forth game. Like most AGL teams, even short-handed, Kanil's vampires were always a scoring threat. I thought I had pruned their numbers sufficiently, but they kept my scoring slowed down enough, and I made enough small mistakes here and there that things never quite came together. Even my fans were disappointed, taking me down to FF7! (One of my least favorite games in the series. *rimshot*)

What a crazy, crazy game. I don't really know how I was able to win that. I was certain at half time my lack of players would doom me, much as it did in season 3. I got lucky enough to not fail too many rolls, and somehow scrape by.

That's kinda been the story of my entire season, somehow managing to get lucky over and over again. It's weird, I figured I'd just play the vampires, lose some games, gain a few SPP, and since we're trying out allowing old teams, be in a decent position for Season 5. Despite my abysmally low expectations, I've outlucked all my opponents and have a shot at the finals.

Thank you for the game, ndkid. I always enjoy my games against you.

Our games are always a good time.

I think you both sell yourself short, and sell short the general trend of AGL teams. Over the course of a season, and AGL team is going to have a higher chance of massive-Team-Rating-Dropping deaths and injuries. (c.f. the Wardancers of w00t w00t, who have been pretty well smashed up) However, if an AGL team can make it to single-elimination time, and they still have players to field, they're going to be able to threaten to outscore whoever they're playing.

Manner Pylons win semi finals 5 - 3 !!!

The first half and until turn 12 consisted of us taking turns to do a turn 2 TD.

Our teams were utterly incapable of stopping the other team from scoring.

But then, the Elves made 3 casualties and 2 KOs in the same turn.

Defiantly a gutter runner still managed to run in the TD for a 4 - 2 lead.

With only 5 rats left on the pitch, and 5 turns left on the clock, it was looking like the elves could manage to send the game into overtime.

The elves score the first TD without resistance.

After that they get defencive blitz(or whatever) and move right under the ball. it's looking very good for the elves.

A rat knocks the ball carrier down, and another takes the ball and runs for it.

an Elf blitzes the carries, and rolls defender down... not enough to knock down a gutter runner! i use my reroll, and it end up double skull!!!!

nothing is in the path of the gutter runner, and the filthy rats takes the game!

What a nail biter!

Congrats to Mr. Filthy Rat! you've earned it... mainly by being a sleazy rat!

Good luck in the final! i'm rooting for you!

Sign me up for season 5!

At least I'm not a tree-hugging elf! That Treeman definitely deserved that MVP.

I'm kinda surprised I managed to pull it out. That pass on the 5+ saved our little tails. (I blame your tree for the motivation.) We were pretty even til you took out 3 Rats in a row. Then I guess we turned on the afterburners.

I did like getting the 8 RRs to 0 in the first half. Was quite amusing.

I look forward to playing you again next season.

Match validated.

And here I was worried that putting the new teams in their own group would result in them preforming poorly in the playoffs...

Immediately after the finals, signup for season 5 will begin. I'll describe in more detail how it works then, but basically, make sure to check this thread in a day or two if you want to play in S5!

Self Inflicted versus Manner Pylon.

Pre-Game: Manner Pylon has a gutter runner and thrower both miss next game'd, resulting in 230k in inducements. They remove a reroll from Self Inflicted and drug up 3 of their rats, resulting in a AG5 GR. Manner Pylon loses the coinflip. Self Inflicted chooses to kick.

Self Inflicted lines up in it's standard defensive formation, Manner Pylon elects to use a wall of players and the drugged up AG5 GR stays back to catch.

MP1: The AG5 GR scoops up the ball, and passes it forward to another waiting GR. The LoS thralls get pushed around and one is knocked unconscious. The GR with the ball runs through the hole opened up, and a second one comes along to keep him company.

SI1: The vampires crowdsurf a Blitzer, no injury. They then send several players back to pressure the two deep GRs to prevent stalling.

MP2: The GR runs in to score, taking a 1-0 lead.

The KO'd thrall awakes for the kickoff. MP sets up in three lines, slightly set back from one another. SI stacks a bunch of players on one side of the pitch, and leaves an AG5 vampire and an escorting thrall back. The kickoff results in a weather change to Sweltering Heat -- rather amusing, given the game is played on the blindingly white snowy pitch.

SI2: The AG5 vampire fails blood lust, rerolls, goes to pick up the ball and fumbles it, mid-field, away from the wall of vampires on the other side of the pitch.

MP3: The Skaven push away a thrall left to cover the weak side of the pitch, and bring three players to the ball, before a gutter runner rolls double 1's on a dodge.

SI3: The knocked down thrall is brought up to help the AG5 vampire blitz->crowdsurf a gutter runner. His assistant is brought over to put another TZ on the ball. A second vampire runs towards the end zone with a lunch thrall to help. Another vampire gets hungry and KO's a thrall.

MP4: The thrall that assisted with the GR crowdsurf the turn before is himself crowdsurfed. Two more players join the party next to the ball before a loner linerat skulls a one die block on the LoS.

SI4: A loose vampire runs over to hypno-stare a GR near the ball, freeing up space for the AG5 vampire's helper thrall to blitz away a stormvermin. This allows the AG5 vampire to scoop up the ball and pass it to the vampire who moved down-range earlier. He moves towards the endzone while his food thrall stays back to cover nearby skaven.

MP5: A double skull on the first block ends the turn almost immediately.

SI5: A few players are pushed around, and one vampire kills a linerat. The only non-food related casualty of the game.

MP6: A double skull-pow on the first block ends the turn immediately.

SI6: Additional stalling, mostly. A few pushes on blocks.

MP7: One thrall goes down before MP rolls a skull on a one die block.

SI7: SI runs it in, hoping to get two chances at a KO recovery. One thrall is KO, compared to no Skaven players. The game is tied at 1-1.

The two teams line up in their standard offensive/defensive formations. The thrall wakes up, and unsurprisingly no players are effected by the heat in the winter wonderland. A riot breaks out on the kickoff, moving the play counter back one, crucially giving MP two turns to score instead of just one.

MP7b: The rear GR grabs the ball, brings it forward and passes to a forward GR. A hole is opened up in the Vampire line and the ballcarrier dashes through. Several rats spill through the hole, but they lag somewhat behind the swift gutter runner - MP has no rerolls to risk go for its to keep everyone together.

SI7b: A thrall moves to assist a vampire in getting a 3-die block on the ball carrier. A reroll is used, but it's not enough to get around Blodge with no wrestle or tackle. Several more players form two lines on either side of the ball carrier, covering him in numerous tacklezones.

MP8: A thrall is pushed away from a second gutter runner just outside the cage around the ball carrier, who deftly passes the ball away to him and safety. He then scampers into the end zone. 2-1 Manner Pylon.

Four players (1 vamp, 3 thralls) from SI and two players (SV, GR) from MP all collapse under the sweltering heat. Nobody thinks to provide them with any of the plentiful snow to help them cool off! With no chance at a one-turn touchdown, SI lines up a 5 SPP vampire and some friends, to get him a completion and his first skill post-game.

SI8: A touchback gives the 5/6 SPP vampire the ball. He fails bloodlust and badly hurts a thrall, before passing the ball and getting his completion before halftime.

One vampire and two thralls fail the sweltering heat roll. The skaven have caught on to the fact that snow is cold, and roll in it ensuring they're all ready for the second half! Their ten players line up 3 on the LOS, and the remaining 7 in a loose wall just behind. The vampires line up with the AG5 vampire back with his lunch, and the other 6 off to one side. A riot moves the game forward, and a touchback negates the pickup roll.

SI10: The wrong vampire is given the ball by mistake, necessitating a handoff to the blodge vampire. A cage is formed while the AG5 vampire & food catches up to the play. A single linerat is stunned.

MP10: The stunned linerat hampers Manner Pylon's ability to block in the ball carrier, but they manage to get some tacklezones on him after knocking down a thrall.

SI11: The blodge ball carrier vampire blitzes through the gutter runners in his way. Some players attempt to filter through the narrow hole on the side of the pitch, but the carrier is left somewhat vulnerable. The AG5 vampire KO's his food behind the play, after failing blood lust.

MP11: The skaven push a few thralls around to free up some players, allowing a two die block on the ball carrier. Despite the use of a reroll, it is insufficient to defeat the blodge vampire. They manage to place four players in and around him, however. Behind the play, another thrall is KO'd.

SI12: The two vampires without the ball run around to use hypnotic gazes on some skavens. Crucially one fails a needed go-for-it, consuming the turn's reroll. Thus when the ball carrier fails blood lust, he cannot blitz through the Skaven line and score. Before making it to a nearby thrall, he fails a dodge and heads off into the crowd to chomp on a nearby fan. He takes the ball with him. The fans throw it back into play somewhat behind the crowd of players near the endzone.

MP12: A gutter runner scoops up the ball, and throws it to a waiting linerat at midfield. Unfortunately the linerat fails the catch.

SI13: A thrall blitzes the linerat onto the ball, shoving it away from some tacklezones. The AG5 vampire then runs in, scoops up the ball and throws it to the other vampire now near the end zone after  moving to help out with a hypnotic gaze. He then runs it in to score, tying the game 2-2.

One thrall wakes up, the other one stays unconscious. The vampire who just scored the touchdown decides to not participate in the next drive, as does another thrall. The Skaven team remains lively after enjoying some ice cream and a snowball fight. MP has 10 players, SI 8. The skaven form up their typical line with a GR back, and the vampires adopt a very loose defensive wall.

MP13: The skaven rush forward, marking up the vampires and pushing around the thralls on the LOS. Unfortunately, the back GR fumbles his pass to move the ball up, leaving it close to the LOS on one side.

SI14: A vampire hypno's a linerat off the blodge vampire, and a thrall stuns the GR who just whiffed his pass. The blodge vampire runs forward and picks up the ball. Another thrall moves in to cover the ballcarrier.

MP14: The rats KO a LOS thrall who dared stand back up, and begin to surround the ball carrier and his two escorts. A GR then runs in to blitz the ballcarrier, but he trips up dodging around one of the thralls in the way. Still, 7 players (some stunned) from both teams surround the ball carrier.

SI15: A thrall shoves a GR away from the ball carrier, freeing up a second thrall to leave the pile of players. The ball carrier then dodges himself out of the mess and towards the endzone.

MP15: The gutter runners give chase to the fleeing vampire, attempting to surround him and stop him from dodging to the endzone. Some thralls are pushed around behind the play.

SI16: The ball carrier blitzes a marking gutter runner, then follows up and dodges away from him, and runs into the end zone. 3-2 Manner Pylon.

With no options for a one-turn touchdown, three skaven players decide to leave early and get out of the snow and sweltering heat. Two thralls also elect to not show up. The vampires leave 3 thralls on the LOS and everyone else stands back where it's safe. MP leaves a GR back to scoop up a completion SPP, and the rest to beat up on the thralls on the LOS.

MP16: A thrall is knocked over, and a GR whiffs his pass, ending the game.

Final Score: Self Inflicted 3 - 2 Manner Pylon

Thoughts: It was an interesting and very close game. Both teams got quite lucky, and quite unlucky at different moments in the game. I don't think I failed a single hypnotic gaze, now that I think about it, but I did fail some key blood lusts. Jartol was pretty unfortunate with a lot of his passes, which really hurt his chances. The Skaven offense was predictably efficient, but I again ended up lucky enough to scrape through and win.

What a silly, silly season I had...
Still, I've grown quite endeared to my group of slightly retarded vampires and their two-legged lunches, and the players are developing some character. My 5 AG vampire in particular has gotten into the habit of failing blood lust then rolling a 1 on some roll immediately afterwards, especially when the ball is nearby.

I am open to a new-team-only league in addition to a veteran-team-allowed league. Even with just a 4-person league, I'd be interested.

I'm willing to keep Kobb's Khorne running, switch back to my orky team, or do something completely different if there are people who desire orcs and chaos in the new season.

I think that's all the input I have at this moment.

Especially to Charmander, whom I fucked over really badly. I can only hope I improved somewhat with the experience, and that S5 will go better.

Hey, it's alright... besides, was fucked over enough between hardware and software. Things have been more stable, though, so we'll see.

Quote
Is there any changes in the rules that we'd like to see for season five? Notable rule changes for season four that might be reconsidered. Primarily, allowing old teams. I felt this was successful, did anyone really dislike it/want it changed for S5?

I'd rather have one big league group for preference, but that's because variety is the spice of life. And you can buy a *lot* of inducements with 700k. Star players can be scary.

Besides, playing the same team back to back isn't all that exciting.

Quote
As for signups, we currently have a unique teams rule in effect. Therefore, when you sign up, only pick a team that another player hasn't already claimed. I'd imagine last season's coaches should have first pick of the race they played in S4, but if they don't want it someone else can have it. If you're new to the league, if you could post your timezone and perhaps contact information (Steam is a popular method, but I"m not too picky) that'd be great. I already have such information for existing coaches.
I forgot to mention: Provided we stick to old teams, any team that has played in a previous Bay12 Blood Bowl season (1-4) exclusively is available to play in season 5. Playing that team in other leagues will invalidate for continued participation in the Bay12 league, provided it doesn't, it can return to play at any time, be it season 5, 6, or 16... Assuming we have a side cup, those teams will also be included of course.

I think that covers everything, but if you have something you want discussed, feel free to bring it up.
I'll be playing in S5 with my vampire team.

I'm down for sticking with lizardmen, or going pro elves or skaven instead if you don't want me to play with a two-season-experience team. 'Though stuff like that just needs reminding that players will die: my star runner, Tyrr the Slipstreamed, only has an AV of 6 from a pretty rough injury. I daresay his days are numbered, and he's easily the best player on my team...

Glad to have you back. Feel free to play whatever team you enjoy the most, nothing wrong with playing the same team for three seasons. Or a dozen. Or all of them. I suspect Jartol will be playing his Skaven team again, though -- so that's probably not an option.

Edit: I kinda liked the two groups myself, but... given that the scheduler is random, it might be better to shove everyone into one group. Depending upon the number of people who sign up, we might be forced to go one group anyway. Anyone else have an opinion on it?
