boredom factor
« on: February 26, 2012, 12:44:44 pm »

Hi
Our dwarves have basicly two emotions :  sad, happy or even only one if sad is actually not happy.

Adding a boredom factor subject to gradation  would add depth to the game, create new angles and transfer some of the fun the player is having to the dwarves.

Boredom/amusment  would influence on the happiness and productivity of the dwarves.

an amused dwarf would see his happiness level raised and work faster
a bored dwarf would see his happiness progressivly lowered and be unefficient.

Amusement level would progressivly drop if the dwarf is not entertained.
Different stimulus would have different effect on the boredom level :
(refers to previous post "witness of slaughter happy thought")
witness to a decent fight 5 points
witness to a good  fight 10 points
witness to a legendary fight 20 points

Theaters could be created, raising more or less the entertainment level of the dwarves watching depending on the quality of actors (actor skill level)
Coliseum would become a huge plus or even a must to the colony with dwarves watching fights and execution instead of being an impressive but useless structure

Things we find entertaining (like slaughtering prisoners) would actually help the fortress

parties would help also

I believe this would add another level to the very basic sad/happy system

This will probably added during the personality rewrite.
Modifying the rather basic systems is needed though.

Pretty much what 10ebbor10 said, but something tells me the update would take another three years to add in using instruments, then dwarf bards being able to work in taverns, then wandering bards, then adventure mode music, then singing, then chants, then a magic rewrite, then planes, then planar sieges, then the 1.0 release. :)

You wouldn't rush Goya or Faulkner or Tarantino. Think about Toady as equal to those artists. And then deal with it.
