Fireshowers the God-Forsaken Gate of Hell
« on: April 05, 2012, 04:32:54 pm »

In the early spring of 250, a strange group of seven dwarves, calling themselves Helldwellers the Foolish Enjoyment of Fate, decided it was time to strike the earth.
Fourteen years have passed, and by now their fortress has 86 dwarves inhabiting it, 50 of whom are born in the fort (dwarves grow up at age 4 in my world).
Even though since year 2, my FPS hasn't risen above 20, I've persisted and created a fortess with a magma cannon to honour it's name.
As it stands now, my FPS is maxing out at 11, with dips to 8 when traders are on the map, yet I still enjoy playing it. I won't give in to FPS death until I've found the circus. I'm on a 3x4 embark, I've discoverd most of the magma sea, but haven't spotted any candy yet.
Please, have a look at it, and tell me what you think of Fireshowers, the God-Forsaken Gate of Hell.

Also, if anyone wants to adopt my fortress and play with the magma cannon, I'll be happy to provide a save

I took a quick look at the map you linked to. It looks a little like cross sections of one of those long skinny modular scifi ships that spin for their own gravity. Something like Discovery One from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Probably due to the huge number of circular chambers, notably around the palace level... ;)

Pretty neat  :)

Heh, I hadn't looked at it that way, but you're quite right.

A gyroscope?

Not gravity btw. Simulated gravity, but not gravity.[/physics rant]

Not enough magma for my tastes, but a step in the right direction.

I haven't seen a non-square embark in a while. Why did you choose 3x4?

YES, SIR!!

The tangential velocity "pushing" an object away from the center.

"We" all know this, but "gravity" is much easier for me to type then "artificial gravity".

Let's compromise, ‼Gravity‼ is now the word.

With a 3x3 map I couldn't get both the evil biome, the good biome and sufficient space on both sides of the river
