Right then.

I am a terrible person. Or am I? Possibly.

The point is. The point is.

...DEMONHOOD. That was a thing. Maybe, someday, it will again be a thing- but, uh, don't get your hopes up.

HOWEVER. I have so much free time (all of the free time), and not enough stuff to do in that free time.

THEREFORE. Let us run an RTD, maybe. Sort of.

Knowledge of the DEMONHOOD universe will not be required. In fact, it is discouraged. On the basis that the characters will have very little knowledge about what threats they face and what wicked schemes are unfolding in the dark, and if the players are similarly ignorant, there will be more... !!FUN!!

ANYWAY. You all know how these things work. Let's get started. Preamble over.

You are a novice wizard. Like, really novice. Like, barely know any magic. You've been studying hard (or at least pretending to study hard) as that you might actually attain a mote of skill, so you haven't really been paying attention to the world outside the tower. You think there's a war on? Certainly there are a lot of soldiers around. Something about anarchists in the east, or something.
Then one day you are summoned to the chamber of the Archmage.
This is completely ridiculous.

Not only the Archmage graces you with his presence- almost every senior wizard you know of, several captains of the army, and even THE KING HIMSELF are in attendance.
There is absolutely no way that this is going to be good news. Beside you are five of your fellow novices; you recognize them, for they are all untalented slobs like yourself. Once the shock of seeing so many important people wears off, you quickly come to the conclusion that the only reason you could have been called here is to be sent of on a suicide mission. Probably not a very important one.

"Good news!", speaketh the Archmage, once you have been seated.
"You fine aspirants to the art of wizardry have been selected to participate in a mission of vital importance to the ongoing war effort."
...Hooray.
"As you probably know, a terrible demon has arisen in the east, and has seized the town of Akataki, and marches on Grantown even as we speak."
You did not know this. Your knowledge of the local geography is... hazy.
"However, we have another issue closer to home. The Monster Hunters, whose skill and knowledge would be invaluable in this situation, have recently adopted a curious policy of seclusion. Visitors to the asylum are seen entering under cover of darkness, sometimes carrying strange objects. Emissaries, both from ourselves, the crown, and the city, are turned away with curt words. There is talk of ghosts and strange beasts in the hills around the Asylum, and now few dare even enter the grounds, let alone step up to its foreboding walls."

The Asylum? You know a little about that place. When you were accepted into the university, they warned you- step out of line, break the rules, even think about talking about necromancy- and it'll be the Asylum for you. Their threats were exaggerated- but not by much. You have seen a fellow wizard or two dragged from their studies, begging to be released, their explanations of their actions falling on the deaf ears of a trio of burly Hunters.
Of course, they don't only deal in wayward wizards. The insane are also confined there, and the worst criminals. And occasionally the hunters will be called to deal with some bogeyman out in the countryside. You've heard rumours that they even have an actual necromancer locked up there, and that the halls are lined with the heads of monstrous creatures- but these rumours do not come from very reliable sources.
...oh, the Archmage is still talking, although he appears to be wrapping up.

"-and therefore, for the good of the Tower, the Crown, and the City, you shall take this equipment and investigate the Asylum. You shall not rest until you have either secured the aid of the Hunters in this war, or have discovered what is going on within their fortress."

You are handed a pile of equipment: studded leather robes, tattered; iron shortsword, rusty; wooden staff, decorative; backpack with supplies, meager.
You are then escorted out of the city, to the foot of the hill 'pon which the Asylum stands, and told to 'get on with it'.

...Well, you had best get on with it, then.

Name: Tyrin Denaril
Gender: Male
Speciality: Swordsmanship
Background: Born in a hamlet near the river Barr, Tyrin was a peasant -a simple man with simple needs and simple aspirations, like becoming a Lord and lording his powers over everyone else. Before he was inducted into the ranks of the wizardry, that is.

The days of young still bristling in his mind, of sword play and childish games coursed through his thoughts and swept into his actions in his time in the Tower. Being a man with little strength and a free mind, he tried multiple paths in his studies; one led him to the Guard tower, where he picked up his talent with the sword over petty magic which was not properly understood. Though, he does not deny his capabilities, he prefers using physical weapons more than dabbling with mystic acts, having a defensive mind-set and persona.

'Course with Dwarf Fortress, the only relevant question is, "How far away will the ASCII gibs splash on landing?"
5 squares per limb, if you raise the north orthoclase bridge before sacrificing one of them so they have a straight shot to the bottom of the chasm.

Name: Caellath Excrucialis
Gender: Male
Speciality: Craftsmanship (less combative specialtes may prove to be more !!FUN!!).
Background: Coming from a rising commercial family which had some renown before having their business broken by larger competitors and fleeing to escape their debts never to be seen anymore, Caellath hid his original last name (Imanahan) to avoid persecution from the same loan sharks that stalked his family. His new name was actually bestowed on him by other students for his clumsiness in doing most things. He is exceptionally good at breathing and he is also less prone to catastrophe when crafting something though.

You may pick a speciality that has already been chosen if you want to. Craftsmanship gives you basic knowledge of a bunch of different crafts; blacksmithing included.

Name: Valyar Sanders
Gender: Male
Speciality: Magical Creatures
Other information:
Valyar was a lone child, and an orphan. He spent his days reading, and prowling the streets of the city at night, he learned to sneak easily through the world under the cover night, and soon became an efficient pick-pocket, stealing to buy the books he read when he returned to his small home hidden away in a small tunnel underground. many called him crazy, and insane for he studied the magical creatures so many others didn't believe in, but he knew they where real, and they were never far from civilized folk.

Speciality: Fireballs! *Casts one and blows up head* .... help?

Info: Jaxon was a bit of a sugar child when he was little, and all that sugar never seems to worked its way out of his system. When he discovered he could do magic, he rushed to the wizard academy and immediately learned the most explosive magic EVAR. Since then he has more burns than the target he practices on.

Right then. Sorry, werty, only room for six on this tour. Lets get started.

The six of you mull about at the base of the hill for a while, working up the courage to actually walk up to the asylum. Eventually you start up the hill.

Ochita notices- too late- that they pass through some sort of ward on the way up. It didn't kill them, or stop them, or seem to harm them in any way... so it's probably fine.

Henrietta and Valyar start to feel a little uncomfortable as they walk. There is... something... somewhere... which isn't natural. Possibly ghosts? Of former inmates? That's a thing which is possible, they think.

You cross a moat dug around the asylum, and reach the doors. Dark stone walls tower above you, faint sounds- screams, perhaps- echoing through the iron bars across the windows. An evil aura radiates from the asylum, sending shivers down your spine. Owen recognises it as some sort of... magical-fear-inducing-thing. The others simply feel an inexplicable terror.
[6,1,1,2,1]
Ochita flinches and instinctively raises a ward around himself, which blocks out enough of the aura that he is completely unaffected.
The others are not so lucky. They cannot help but shudder, look around nervously, and wimper. Henrietta clutches her amulet. Tyrin, Caellath, and Valyar all suggest leaving. Owen smacks them and explains that it is just some sort of spell, and not to be such cowards.

Ochita proceeds to knock on the doors. After a while, a hatch slides open and the face of a Monster Hunter peers out.

"No", he says, "No visitors. Go away."

You try to argue with the guard to let you in.

"No", he repeats, "No visitors. Go away."

Owen, Henrietta, and Valyar all think that there is something odd about the guard.

Repeated verbal attempts to gain entry prove useless. However, you must gain access. You should probably
-Kill the guard, force the doors open.
-Use magic to make the guard let you in.
-Look around for an alternate entrance.
-Do something completely different.

Hard luck on that first morale check. Here's hoping your luck improves in the future, or you will all be a bunch of gibbering madmen before turn five.
Anyway. Get your actions in.

Statuses:

A note on the statuses: If you read DEMONHOOD, you may be surprised at the physical and mental might possessed by you lot. Do not get excited- I halved their values for easier numbers. So a Physical Might of 3 is actually 1.5 manpower. Your average peasant would possess 2 and 2.
A further note: Knowledge is required to gain skills. You cannot learn how to, say, cast a fireball if you do not have working knowledge of magic. There will be plenty of opportunities to gain both knowledge and skills within the asylum. Knowledge, as you have already witnessed, gives opportunities to notice things others may not, and can reduce the effects of fear.

Stop adwarf from doing that, and lets look for a different entrance.

AHAHA, INSANITY. I shall see if I can't help you guys with wards or something.

:P This will be fun
(The second line in bold is my action)

Aid the other man in stopping the lunatic aiming to stab one of our fellow people by using my own blade to apprehend his action!

Look for an alternate entrance.

Tyrin looked around at his comrades, they were as nervous as he, but at least he was holding his weapon the right way -with the pointy end away from the body. The place exuded an ominous feeling, and he didn't doubt his intuition. This place was evil, and the front door didn't seem like the right way in.

"Hey, everyone," he said with a quiver in his voice, "let's try another path. There must be a...back door or open window that we can derefenestrate ourselves into."

Prevent our colleague from trying to stab the guard if needed and find an alternate way. Try to be crafty to get inside. If the alternate way is already found and unimpeded, follow the rest of the group while analyzing exactly how bad my sword is.

Caellath started to breath slowly and deliberately while trying to get rid of the fear that had grown inside him. Looking around, he tried to figure if there was another way into the Asylum.

((Also, I never read Demonhood. And as you said it would be better if we had no knowledge of it or something along theses lines, I decided not to do it.))
