I decided that I would live above ground in a stone house. Everyone is giving me looks now, like im a elf, it hurts really.



My shaft is going extremly deep. Im scared to set one foot near it, and theres no dirt yet either.

"um sir, wheres the food?"

"Stockpiles"

For future reference, if you're going quickly, it's probably better to put a biggish update at the end of each season instead of a bunch of little ones. It's up to you, though.

21th Moonstone

That dwarf I was talking about earlier -- think his name's Corai, looks like he's the boss guy though I'm not sure why -- just handed me a pick and told me to start digging.

I was angry at first, 'cause seriously what the hell, but I really think I'm getting a knack for it, honestly. Digging's a lot like surgery, see -- you grab the sharp thing and then drive the sharp end of the sharp thing in as hard as you can and then stuff goes flying and then stuff falls out and then there's a big hole and you're done. I kinda wish there was more screaming, but rocks don't hurt so I guess it can't be helped.

I had one of my miners go into carpentry, and also stopped booze production for the moment. The liason also spoke to me after months, I requested seeds and wood. Annoyingly, he wanted seeds too. Damnit.

My house is coming along. Seems Im the only person that likes being outside. I checked out the shaft, Zestdwarf had to help me out...I dont want to write why. Mostly cause I dont remember. I swear Mr Frog was laughing.

The base of my house was finished, and the roof is being build.

I ask Mr Frog to dig out rooms with Zestdwarf at the bottom of the shaft. He grudgingly agrees. I swear the walls are closing in on me when I go below the earth...Thank Armok im not a miner. I move into my new house, which is only big enough for a table and bed, but its good enough.

I decided to interview Mr Frog and Zestdwarf, and there pretty anti-social...But guess what I found out! Mr Frog is married! How beautiful! It brings me to tears! And children....that arent in the fortress....Odd.

Fourth Entry, Part II
Made passin aquaintinship with a fellow by the name "Mr. Frog". seemed like decent enough sorts, came in with the newer migrants.
He told me stories about his extended family, but i havent seen any of them around the fort. Course' i dont know the fellow enough, maybe i just havent gotten to know him enough.
Still, my ol' pappy told me tales of men like that... large families but not a wife or child to be found, then people being found in the bottom o' shafts with the blood sucked outta them... just beer barrel horror stories, im sure...
but you wont'n be catching me in a lonely room with him just yet.

I don't really have anything to add at the moment.

Also, you don't have to repost our entire journal entries, silly :p If you want to keep everything sorted, I could keep a list of links to each journal post, arranged by year, in my first post.

EDIT: Migrant dwarves are actual historical figures with relatives now, so having a long list of relatives is normal. It's when they're listed as a former member of every single nearby civ and site that you should be suspicious.

Nothing has happend much this winter. I belive I have twenty days until my term is up. I need to get this food shortage fixed before someone dies. Heck, Ill have someone kill and butcher me if It comes to it. I always thought I tasted like Giant Olm. But Ill never find out so yeah.

The living area is complete and beds are being assigned. I decided to make a statue garden for the fortress! I hope the dwarves like it.


I also started a mining expedition and we found more gold. Its up to the next overseer to get it all smelted. Well, my time is up. I nearly finished the statue garden but just didnt have the time. Perhaps I will let Zestdwarf be overseer.....I better start scribbling out parts of this journal, after all, overseers all use the same journal......oh *writing is unreadable*

Holy wow, that was an uneventful first year. You didn't leave anything out, right?

So, should I keep a list of the journal posts and such? Just say the word.

First Official Log of Planning Head ZestDwarf
aHEM. aye. The boss thought i should call meself an expedition leader, but i turned down the idea. i be a humble man, all i need is booze and stone to get me through the day. Sure ill be taken over as Planning head, but that be more a Behind the scenes kind o' thing.

First Log supplementary.
So i be walkin' naked down the hallway one morn, and wouldn' ya know i bumped into corai. He start'd actin' all weirded out, an told me to put my clothes on. so i says. "Whatsa matter? never seen another naked male dwarf?" now he looks all stunned like, and then he tells me something. "you know your a woman right?" would'n you know it? hes right! I guess i never been bothered to look!

First Log Part II.
So i thought id be recording what the land looks like before i start to take over, so i took a few rough sketches.

Here be the whole area, damnable desert stretches for miles... it may be sweatier than a fat goblin running from armoks hammer out there, but i get the shivers just lookin at it!

So a scouts be tellin me there are piles of clothin and rope and other junk out in the middle of the frying pan. dont know how that got out there... i should go ask the ol' boss, maybe some poor caravan died out here.

The ol' sand covered entrance, lettin in thousands of Elf-Spankin sand particles per day. Ol Boss's hut just outside... he might not be liken the placement when goblins come. Maybe i should plan on building a wall for the ol' chap.

ere' be the main floor. lots of craftin stuff going on, everyone seems to be hard at work. but dont let their faces fool ya, they are all hungry and starving.. i should get to plannin some food stuffs.

ere' the dining hall. Nice cool solid stone. A belch here echoes through the whole fort!... still get sand blowin in every now and then.... I dont much care for the private dining hall... im a modest ma--... woman at heart, and i enjoy the company of other dwarves. Might be lettin future nobles have that one. Still, i should'n be ungrateful. I'll go have a drink wit ol' boss and be turnin down the room polite like.

Anyway, Time to be startin! this place needs some work and it be my turn at the wheel!

(Its 1:30 am, mind if i start my turn in the morning? btw i had no idea i was a girl xD)

Well, back to peasantry for me, although im still known as the expedition leader, im really just a figurehead, Im letting Zestdwarf make all the buisance, I may be off-duty but Ill still be writing. On a sidenote, she was walking around in the nude....everyone but me seemed to be staring. She didnt even realize she was a she. I hopefully get some bones soon, Im becoming bored of stone jugs and pots.

You should probably edit the journal reposts out of your entries; it's kind of confusing to see the same thing posted twice.

Try to make more of an effort to capitalize and punctuate properly (this goes for both of you). It makes a better impression on readers, which would be good considering that each reader is a potential player.
