Santorum leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I think in this case he stuttered and it ended up sounding like a racial slur.  It could happen to anyone.  I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt in these situations.

Still, there will be a huge media frenzy.  He should probably pull out now, because if he doesn't, all this Santorum coverage is going to ruin the Republican party's palatability.

This was actually my impression as well. It honestly sounded like he stumbled over his words in a rather unfortunate way. Then again, it wouldn't particularly surprise me if he actually came out and said it, either.
