So, I'd love to get back into this for something to do during my apparently brain-dead sloth level CS class. Is there a guide on what to do once you're past basic planetfall tasks? (i.e. how to get more advanced equipment, and eventually get those sweet, sweet ICBMs I keep hearing about)

EDIT: Also, which planets are populated?

Most planets are good -get on chatnet if you  want to -co-ordinate.  The new chargen sequence will painlessly get you to a planet surface with the tools you need.  After 6 months, buildings become claimable, so never be hesitant to take over an idle starship complex, factory,or what have you, packed with valuable toosl and materials.  And use CHATNEt , CHAT <your message> when in doubt.

Yes - use the link up terminal instead of the dispatch terminal when you start.  Remember you're never THAT far from other players.  Hang out on chatnet a bit as well.

I might have to get back in to this. I wonder if my old character from a couple of years ago is still in the database. He was a member of a guild that taught noobs the game.

Sure should be!  If you forgot password and can't reset through the connection screen, just email admin _AT_ wayfar1444.com from the mail associated with your character and we'll get you setup.

We have space ships but do we have land ships?

Some big mobile base type of thing like a Jawa Sandcrawler so we can travel the planet whilst taking our production capability with us.

There's a contest to design your own ship right now :) Go participate! You'll get a copy of your ship, with all the storage and armor and weapons and whatever the hell else you design on it.

I encourage everyone to submit vehicle/aircraft designs for the contest (ends dec 12th).  However I didn't get the response I was expecting, but I did get feedback from several people for minor prizes on new discoverables and artifacts.  So the next promotion will focus on those.  It's a win win as it allows me to flesh out biomes and award neat little prizes to players that submit.

You can now build arcologies, that support more civs and also have a job and a hackable inside.  I'd like to flesh these out more over time, perhaps with some sort of robot staff, but they're pretty neat (I didn't write the descriptions, mrjohnson, one of our volunteers did, and he's really good at it).

Sorry, I've been extremely busy! Still plan to submit my own vehicle design. :)

If you build enough of them will they take off to go on an epic space journey?

Pre-cursor to orbital rockets:

A ramshackle point to point rocket for flights across planetary surfaces.

Durability: [||||||||||] [ 10/10 ]
Loaded: the muex tail
Loaded: Hawgpadre
The r. shackleford sub-orbital transit rocket is flying above the padded flats.
The r. shackleford sub-orbital transit rocket rattles and shakes as it soars towards its destination.  Current position: 46, 30.
BANG!  One of the rocket engines malfunctioned, or a panel came loose.  Probably worth investigating when landing is complete.
The r. shackleford sub-orbital transit rocket is flying above the shattered peak.
