This will be released before June, right?

Right, because any of us know the answer to that :P

To divine the release date of the next update, you must follow these steps.

First, you must embark on a 3x4 area with a group made of seven dwarves who are all adequate Strand Extractors.  On arrival at your site, you must set the third dwarf down the list as the miner, the fifth as a mason and the seventh as the carpenter.  Once this is done, you must make an offering to Armok in the form a megaproject.  It must violate the game's physics, kill dwarves in the triple digits during it's construction AND it must be made of orthoclase.  With me so far?

When the Megaproject is finished, it must be presented in the Dwarf Mode Discussion forum with the header "I offer the megaproject XXXXX unto Armok".  If it sufficiently shocks and awes the forumites, upon receiving views AND responses equal to the number of dwarves killed during construction you will receive a private message.  This message will have the release date based on the dwarfish calendar.  The message itself will also be written in the dwarfish language.

"Hopefully we'll be getting a release together in May"

Not sure how much that's worth though, the important thing is to stop thinking about the update because if you want it to happen the code will begin catastrophically failing just to spite you.

From previous observations, "soon" means about 2 to 4 weeks.

I was shooting debug minecarts full of battle axes at an arena colossus when Zach's actual fort got attacked by a cyclops. He ordered his squads out then set the camera to follow the monster. We had fun watching it run around causing trouble. Three deaths before the bolts started flying in. There's not too much more to do now.

Looks like it might be even sooner than that, if we're lucky

How do you set the camera to follow someone?

You'll also be able to set hotkeys to find and follow a particular unit or item.

The first thing I'm going to do is F8 ► Kittycam.

Well, it seems that two main categories of new weapons have been created.
Dwarfen railguns, relying on the minecart itself to do damage.
Dwafen shotguns, relying on the many items launched out of minecarts to do damage.

the question being, what will be more effective?
railguns allow for sending things flying in graceful arcs but shoutguns allow for mass destruction.

Also, ive just realised that loading a dwarfen shotgun with wooden bolts and setting it on fire before firing the bolts is essentially detritus's piecemaker.

You can do both, plus the fire damage, all at the same time.

And if, hypothetically, we could have a loose animal chained inside a cart, we could also get fire breathing, toxins or webs sprayed at our enemies on demand.

Personally, I'd use railguns as my main weapon because they should be easier to load.  I'd keep the shotguns in reserve for special occasions when I wanted to blast the goblins with 9001 lead coins.

And use the water + magma carts to create obsidian as the finishing move.

So much !!science!! so little time......

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

I believe toady said in a fotf reply that you can not load loose animals into carts, and since it seems as though the only way to make creatures get into carts is with a hauling task, we might have to mod dragons to be intelligent enough to perform labors.

Urist? Remember what I told you abot Mr. Safety Catch?
When Mr. Safety catch is not on, Mr. Minecart is not your friend.

Anyone willing to find a way to use water pressure or something of the sort to push multiple carts at once and make a rail shotgun?
