DF is amazing. It seems the updates are just getting better and better; necromancers, then animal training, and soon mine carts? I love this game.

Also, perhaps power from windmills and waterwheels could be used to bring the mine carts back to the surface.

Minecart Railgun. I don't know how that will work, but I will find a way.

As I said in another thread, I think it could be speculated that hauling stones without the use of some device will now be harder to do... as ToadyOne said on the devlog that he now has the change mining to a point where it will be much more efficient to use a Minecraft vs not using one. This could implicate that the speed of dwarfs will be reduced drastically when carrying rocks without the help of a device of some sort... as it stands right now you can easily mine without the aid of any device.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

Also that's right.  Dwarven Supercolider is a must.  What's a dwarf version of CERN?

DERP, definitely DERP.

And then proceed to dump all the perfect little lumps of stone into the Dwarven Quantum Trashpile™.
As simple things like mining get looked at and improved, players will spend more time and effort optimizing their industries than building impractical megaprojects, I predict. Overall, good change.

HERP and DERP sound good, but I was leaning towards AEA-something.  Accidental Explosives Aggregates... something.

How about a minecart (almost said mincraft wtf) next to the refuse pile that gets filled with rubbich and then is taken down 1/2z levels into a crematorium which burns the rubbich, then the cart is taken back to the surface?
(Could also be used instead of burying dwarves)

Mechanisms could be used to push minecarts along, just like the rollercoaster rides.  If the cart is going slow enough, and the cart is going over mechanized rails, it will keep the cart going uphill, so that you can do the Rollercoaster Tycoon thing, and push a cart up a hill with nothing but mechanism power from your waterwheels.  Completely automated rollercoaster rides minecart operation.

As long as the minecart, tracks, and any associated mechanisms are magma-proof, this might work. Depends on how the container aspect of the minecart works, though (don't cages protect their contents from temperature and other environmental effects?).

I've had goblins inside metal cages melt down to nothing but iron equipment before, so no.

Although it might cause the !!Lignite Bin!! thing...
